There's one thing Ram and Chevy cannot get right in their trucks, right turning radius. You drive any Chevy, Ram, or Ford half ton truck from 2009 until now, Ford has a much tighter turning radius than the other two by quite a bit. Working in an old Toyota shop where the largest truck to come through at the time was the Tacoma or first generation Tundra, the better the turning radius the better. Even some of the Chevy SUVs like the Traverse and Equinox have a turning radius of an injured whale.

The sad thing is that British sports cars(Triumph Spitfire and the hardtop version, name escapes me) have a tighter turning radius than good 'ol made in the U S and A cars.
But then again, those are sports cars, and 'Murica only needs two, both of which are perfectly suited to go against each other.

the road legal AC Cobra is the closest match IMHO
yes, the Cobra still wins but that's due to handling not power.
(again not the race trim Cobras...)

And sure I know you can improve both by ALOT..
put in more horses in several ways..., new axles and brakes yadda yadda;
as from the factory is the only thing you should compare IMHO,

else I'll find that Golf Mark4 again...
1200hp outracing nearly every sports car that dared to compete... in both road and drag.
yes it needs a new engine every other week, but that's not what you're asking, right?

PS Also america had more than two sports cars.. I guess you can call the Viper a sports car of sorts[] ... Vector comes to mind (Andre Agassi almost died in one bursting into flames on day one!) and several other small companies trying to get their foot in the door;
even Chrysler once had a nice looking Prototype IIRC.

Chrysler had only a couple sports cars, the Powler (it should've had a small V8 or something other than the pathetic V6 it had) and Crossfire (rebadged Mercedes SLKR-170).

Agreed, I had a Chevy Equinox for a rental while my car was in the shop ad while it was a nice car, it did not turn well at all.

I haven't driven a 2009+ year Ford, but the 2004 f140 I used to have turned like a boat. It was a known thing that they just didn't turn. Great trucks otherwise (especially the 5.4l v8), but did not turn well.

What Corvette are you talking about? A 2019 Corvette ZR1 is about as close as you can get to a (US made at least) street car that is very trackworthy. If you mean older ones, then sorry! I don't know as much about those.

I'm lost in this conversation with all these older car names being thrown around lol! But to address the German vs USA thing, I think that in general foreign cars are a bit more "refined" than US cars. Americans like their muscle/sport cars loud and in your face. I know some people who drive higher horsepower American made cars (Mustangs, Chargers/Challengers mainly) and they are anything but subtle. A comparable, say BMW, will be much less "in your face". Still fast no doubt, but much more subtle. I have a uncle who has had many of the sporty BMWs and they do not stand out like the USA cars do. You drive a M3 BMW somewhere and only people who know cars know what it is; you drive a Hellcat or something like a Shelby Mustang somewhere and people who don't know cars will see (or hear it rather lol) the car and know it's something loud and fast. Both can be good and bad; I think lots of Americans like the louder, flashy stuff. It just seems to be wired into our culture.

More refined? Yes for sure. But so much more of a pain to fix and more expensive too. I do like the VW 1.8T 20 valve engine, however I hate that its timing belt driven, i do like that i can get 34mpg highway doing 75mph...can't really get that kind of mileage with any other car really.

American engineering has never really been subtle in appearance, which is fine for some. I'm hoping at some point in the near future, the El Camino and Ranchero make a return and not as a namesake, but as an actual car/truck from days gone by. They can easily make one that is all wheel drive and it can heat great gas mileage.

I don't know, I mean a new El Camino would be awesome, but for some reason I picture them making a redesigned SSR. And no one wants those things to come back. But I keep waiting for them to bring back the cast iron 350 (in a car). That'd be a huge improvement in durability over the aluminum 5.3s and 6.0s. I know that aluminum engines weigh less, but really, who wants an engine that turns into an anchor the first time the water pump blows out on the highway.

And do you want to know something funny, the new Regal's with a DOHC, direct injection, and VVT 2.0 4 cylinder gets 22 city and 32 highway mpg. My 2000 Lesabre gets 19 city and 30 highway mpg with a port injection, cast iron, pushrod 3.8 v6.

Oh timespan.. well I kinda liked 70's stingrays (C3?) terrible to drive for all I know but they look nice
compared to a say BMW z3 (which has essentially the same proportions but is ugly as frick)
and since C4 I don't even like the looks and technically they haven't improved either.
So C4'ish corvettes (what's that eighties nineties or so)

the british layout isn't my favourite (loooong snout, short butt)
And yes, it's british layout.. the E-Type was the reason for that look.
I'm more of a mid- to rear-engine guy for sports cars

He took a (fairly recent) Viper and his Boss a race kart... guess who won?
And if you can beat lap times of a Viper on a proper track
with just maybe 250cc of engine in a go kart it can't be too good of a race car, can it?

A number of years ago my old boss' friend went out on a test ride with a viper srt10 (i think).... It was hot day and they were wearing shorts... go for a good rip...
Gets out of the car places his hand on the door sill... Usually there is a metal plate there... Well subsequently burned his hand and thigh as he was getting out... He wasnt used to a low car...
Looked pretty bad for a while....Mufflers heated the sill area up so much the carpet was starting to sizzle a bit...
