I had a loooonnnggg day today.

I just switched to first shift to take over the company tool room; the guy who's been running it since 1995 decided to retire with very little notice. What made it a long day was the fact that my alarm clock went off about the same time that I was going to bed on second shift.

The job looks interesting; I'm going to be responsible for making/ maintaining the custom specialty tooling needed in the shop. I would be happy to have the equipment in the room for myself at home, even with the wear and tear the machines have. It just means that I have some work to do tune the place up.

So yeah, while Doug is thinking of creative ways to tell his boss where to go and how to get there, I'm digging into new territory in the same company.

Hey Doug, I saw a bumper sticker that you might like; it read "I'd tell you where to go, but I work there, and I don't want to see your face every day......."

The scam is they got you to respond, thereby giving them access to all of your personal information.... Right about now, I really think that I pity them....

they have access to email addresses and phone numbers, and that's basically all there is to it.
a working email addy is about 2-5ct and a phone number roughly 20 ct blank.

connected with a REAL NAME and some few personal infos (state/city , approx. age, approx income ..interests etc.)
it can get as expensive as $1 per mail address and $5 per phone number.

And there you are...

That's the reason why FB earns such a huge amount of money.. your personal data is EXPENSIVE, you give it away for free.. they earn tons of money with that.

And scammers try to get their part as well... so within the next few months you'll get a cold call from some wine selling agents or something, a peronalised spam mail or two etc.

So yeah...

I must apologise to you all, I've been a bit "off my game" the last few days; long story short, I recently had to make the big decision of "do I spend more money on my current car or replace the car completely?" Needless to say, I've been a bit distracted, anxious & tired as a result...

________________________________

Now, for anyone whose interested, the long version...

To tell the whole story, I need to go back about 6 months...

My car was leaking power steering fluid. On this model ('96 V6 Camry) there is a hydraulic pump, similar to an oil pump, in the power steering system, which is where the leak was coming from; simple enough to fix, just a matter of sourcing the correct O ring.

All was going well... until I cracked the housing :censored: Now I had to source a new pump ($800 new). I was lucky enough to find a used one for $25 :wai:

Then it developed an excessive amount of movement in the steering. Turns out the rack bushes were totalled; $600 (to fit $40 wort of parts) later, that was sorted.

While the mechanic had the car, I asked him to check for the engine oil & coolant leaks; engine oil was leaking from the rocker covers & coolant was leaking from a 4" crack in the top radiator tank :smiley_omg:

I managed to replace the front rocker cover gasket but, as it's a slant engine, the rear one is a LOT more difficult so, I left that one to the mechanic...

Then it was on to the radiator. Again, I sourced a good used item but, because I was busy running around "doing my job", it was over a week before I had any time to fit it; that week made all the difference!

Once I finally did get a chance to fit it, I noticed a strange phenomenon; when it was cold, the engine would run perfect, it would also drive fine but, at operating temp, it would only idle on 5 cylinders & would overheat quickly (within 5 miles of driving).

I quickly found the offending cylinder & started a series of diagnostics, including swapping the injectors & spark plugs to see if the fault moved but, it didn't; cylinder #6 has a mechanical issue; a compression test proved nothing...

My educated guess is the head gasket is blown into a water gallery (BEST case scenario); the bottom line is it's either going to take a days work or in the ballpark of $1000 to find out...

After everything I've done & spent over the last 6 months, plus the fact that the front end is bent as a result of an uninsured moron who decided to pull out in front of me & the fact that it, pretty much, needs a complete respray, It's simply not worth spending that amount of time &/or money just to find out I have to spend more; time for an upgrade...

Don't you have the option to add uninsured motorists to your policy? It was only a $20 option for me. Or is that just something they don't offer in oz?

Sucks about the car though, I was at that point with my truck a while back. It was a case of " If one more thing fails on this rust bucket its being scrapped ". So far I still have the truck " knocks on wood "

Alright... Good idea.
I've said it a million times here, but ill say it again. I come from a HUGE car enthusiast family. My dad buys, drives for 4-10 months, then sells cars for hopefully a profit. So i know a pretty lot about buying and selling at 14. Just some tips written from an American standpoint:
1. Check the carfax: you dont want a car thats been in a wreck!!! Theyre impossible to sell, and its plain old unsafe.
2. Dont buy new! If you really want to buy new than buy 1-2 years old. You'll still get a warranty, and everything else, and you'll save like $5000!
3. Research Research Research: Know what your looking at! Know the common problems, find out if they're fixed already, and find out if the cars a good fit for you!
4. Take it to a mechanic: Lets face it, unless you've spent your whole life working on cars, you should ask a pro. Ask the dealer for a PPI(pre purchase inspection) to find out if everything is up to par!
5. Set a budget and a class: Theres a lot of cars out there! It can be intimidating, and it probably will be. I you can narrow it down, then do that.
6. Keep your options open- don't stereotype: Some cars and brand names will get a bad reputation, and that can be great!!! You can get a newer lower mileage car for cheap!
7. Shop around and negotiate hard: Find the best deal and fight it.
8. Dont be afraid to go older- but not to old: A car 10 years old can be very cheap, and not to bad at all!
9. Ask for records: ALWAYS! ask for records! The more the better.
10. One owner is key: If you have less owners most of time that means better condition. Low owners is good.
11. Stick to reliability: Japanese!! I'm sure you know this from your Camry, but most Japanese cars are very reliable, and maintenance is usually minimal. I'm not saying only buy Japanese, but it's not a bad idea. We've had A LOT of german cars, an they get complicated and expensive fast! A $40 part on an American car thats right on top of the motor could be a $300 part thats way down in the back of the motor- hidden on a german car. In the US American cars have cheap parts and easy fixes!

If I think of more I'll add them. If you have questions feel free to ask. Not trying to threadjack or be intimidating, but my dad buys 4 cars a year on average, and i always do the whole thing with him, chances are we've been down that road if you have a problem. Good luck!!

Take off the radiator cap

Bubbles are a result of blown gaskets
And white smoke
And a failed compression test

If its over heating then check the coolant flow path though the engine
6 is properbly the last to get the coolant and the new rad is a bit blocked

Over heating and not firing at not are not head gasket issues
Swap the coils round
See if that moves the issue

Just to be clear, I've already bought a replacement car, just waiting for the bank to open on Tuesday morning (public holiday Monday  :toetap05:)

FYI: I was a Rolls-Royce apprentice mechainic before you were born but, thanks for the tips ;) :cheers2:

Took my dog for a walk last night. Been neglecting him, not having our playtime together. I found a stray pup, and have been getting him healthy.....
So anyway, we get 2 blocks from home, and turn the corner. I get a few houses down, and 2 dogs came out of no where, ready to attack. The brown one started first. I pulled my dog close to me then pulled out my switch blade. The dogs were attacking from 2 different sides. My dog had his head buried between my legs. (ill explain that) I am kicking yelling, trying to stab these :censored: dogs before they get me. The brown one got my pants and ripped them. The white one came in from behind, and I took a stab at him. The brown then got my boot, and the white one jumped at me from the side. I kicked the brown one,the white missed and I punched that one.after about 10 minutes of this, I finally got them to back off a little bit. I took off running, backwards, to keep an eye on them. I eventually tripped and fell flat on my back. My dog ran to the corner and my knife was about 3-4 feet from me. Then the dogs came again... I reached for my knife, got tomy feet, and saw a car coming. I yelled for them to stop and help. They looked at me, the dogs, then smiled and drove away...... I found a rock and threw it as hard as I could, hoping to hit a dog. I don't know if I did, my dog and I took off for home. The dogs chased us the whole way. I busted through my garage door and ran into the house for my "toy" assault rifle, and 2 100 round clips. These dogs were fixing to die! My wife called 911. I went outside and as soon as the dogs saw my "toy", they scattered..... Not so tough when you got lead waiting for ya..... The cops came, looked at where I told them the dogs are "living". They drove over, looked with a flashlight from INSIDEthe car, then the little :censored::censored: just drove off, like o well......
In hind sight, my dog had no chance of yelling, biting, barking, or any thing. I had the wrong leash/collar on him. It was choking him, everytime I pulled on the leash. I cut that one up. He gets new jewelry this week. Until then, he stays in my garage.....
I haven't been that scared in YEARS. I have been through lots of stuff, normal people will never see or do. This by far, is the scariest. I'm okay. My pants got ripped. My boot heel was pulled apart. But i woke up with like an EXTRA 100 gray hairs this morning......
