Na can't play that game

Most tradies round here want some forward payment

How are u suppose to buy supplies if they don't pay u

No....he actually gave me $100 cash to start with to buy supplies. .....Then I came back for another $100 later.....but 90% of that WAS used on supplies. ...which means almost no money in my pocket. ......

It was kinda a weird deal anyway. ....I'd been working with his brother in law and things were OK. Normally I would ask for 1/2 down.......whatever. .....

So here are how things are sitting.......I borrowed $100 from this guys brother in law. .....he assured me I would get paid. .......

I have possession of 2 cofffee tables that I have threatened to burn.....

So all in all....I'm close to breaking even. ..and I will not be pushed around. ......

It's funny how I deal with people. ....I always act the fool ......just a bit. .......but they have no idea who they are REALLY dealing with. .......

Edit: I actually bid that mantle for $250 labor......If I hadn't painted it.....and ran into problems there. ....I would have ALMOST made some money......now you know why I am pissed I can't even get that!!!!!!!

That's friggin cheap

If I wanted this in my house
I'd budget
$400 on wood nails ect

Or around $2000 if u wanted someone to make and install it

As for the coffee tables
Can u on sell them else where?

On a differant note
My week is good
The company scored a massive contract to supply a mine
And run all the maintenance

Total of 30 bits of equipment including a pc1250 digger and 18 777d haul pacs

So the economy is still a bit quite but we're set for 2 years

Going to be a very busy next 6 weeks though
Got 2 dozers and a grader to prep

12hr days for 6 days a week
Good when your payed by the hour

what a DAY!

Today was what felt like the hottest day in decades around here.. (technically it wasn't... nevermind)
But we can say I was wet all the time, either because I just came out of the shower or because I was on my way under it again :D

The rest of the time I spend outside trying not to move.

because of the temperatures We (the woman and me) decided to have a late dinner.. 21:00 or something
and we were sitting on the balcony when we heard a thunderstorm in the distance..
So we finished our meal and packed the upholstery and went inside.

just a few minutes later it began ... (~21:25)
A violent thunderstorm we barely ever see around here.

You know the deal.. heavy rain, storm, thunder, lightning
it would've been a great show if you could only see something
it was a muddy grey out there.. maybe possible to see 30-40feet because of the rain (including sahara dust)
So basically it was raining cats and dogs...

when the wife said "geesh, I wonder if there's water in the basement"
So down the stairs we went,
on the way down we noticed the storm pressed hard enough against the windows to crack the seal and the whole staircase was wet like waterfalls from the windows wetting the walls, puddles on the stairs
But the basement was fine an open window was closed other than that nothing to report;
just when we headed back we heard it.. like someone empties a bucket ...
back to the basement, a window popped (from a light well) and the complete light well must have filled with water..
but it was on it's way to the drain already so nothing bad happened.

We cleaned the mess we saw on our way down and called it a day (22:00)
it was over now.. the storm was gone and the remaining rain was average at best.

Then I called my mom how her basement was doing... her neighbors came by and asked too, but it was okay, nothing to report either, so at 22:15 I started to relax on the couch again...

that's when my phone rang!
Mom... (uhoh)... the basement was fine but her balcony was converted into a huge bathtub.
literally hundreds of litres of water (an area of 4m² with water up to the ankles)
and she opened the door to free the drainage from debris.. several buckets of water made it through the open door...
And since her balcony is right above the living room...
what should I tell you.. a kick in the face.
I hurried but I was already too late.. the living room ceiling is nothing but a dripping wet, I think I might have saved the TV and the stereo.. but the water was everywhere already...
Water collected in pockets of wallpaper on the ceiling and I honestly poked holes in to empty them out.
Maybe 40-60 liters I catched with buckets from those pockets;
not counting what was already in dozens of towels on the floor or soaked me in the meantime...

It took hours to clean up at least most of the mess.
the parquet floor is all wet, nobody knows if water made it through (and if it will warp within the next days)
carpets are wet, f*ing everything is!

Again the storm lasted maybe half an hour or so...
But I honestly never saw it raining that hard.

I mean if a 4m² balcony can collect nearly 800 litres of water within that short amount of time, I think we must have broken the local record or something :(

What a day.. what a mess!

Being on the east side of one of the Great Lakes (Michigan), and on the northern end of Tornado Alley, we see that type of rainfall ~ 1 to 3 times a year. And even though our building codes were written with that in mind, it's usually a mess, though more outside than inside.

The biggest problem I (usually) have from that type of storm is erosion; the family farm is not on flat ground, and we have one of the main drain lines for a couple of square miles of land running right thru the center of the place. What's truly mind boggling is that my local drain system is just a minor twig on one of the thousands of feeders running into the largest river in the State. (The Grand River).:ack2: :ack2:

that sucks
sorry to hear
gotta hate cleaning up mess in the middle of the night

we get that sorta rain every so often
but land isnt scarce around here so our houses spread out not up or down (single story no basement)

and our farm is flat

but before u say errosion is bad machinist

where does all your water go
down

ours just sits in puddles

we can get 3 acre puddles spring up in some places they may be only 2 ft deep but they cover a large area and hang around to mid summer

We'd have puddles like that as well (in the low spots) if we didn't have several miles of drain tiles laid in strategic areas.....

So here i am, adjusting valves on my intek v twin...

Looking at videos, reading the correct adjustments on my phone...

jamming out to some The Police album in my garage...

I pull off the valve covor with the .005 gauge in hand and my metric wrench and torques bit and go to crack the valve jam nut off....Realising its the wrong wrench, i go to the work bench, grabbing the 13mm....
Come back and POOF!! My torques bit seems to have VANISHED....

So here i am, dumb founded.... "Where could it have possible gone?!?!"

Checking my racing mower, everywhere. Check the usual spots-seat, footboards, behind the engine....i roll it and nothing on the floor, nothing.... Checking around the area in the garage, dusty concrete floor with grinding shavings... Ugh....

Scratching my head, (this being 10-15min of searching thus far) i walk to the workbench, look all over there, look on the floor, look in all the drawers, my pockets, everywhere...

So i walked inside, maybe when i got the screw driver i misplaced it, even when walking in thinking *theres no way its inside but its worth a shot....*

Nothing, nothing anywhere! Like it mysteriously got up and walked off.... talk about getting discouraged... I was planning on a big test fire!

30 min later, i almost just walked away from it all, but man, that would bug me all night long....

So sitting there just dumbfounded, i search basically everything again....

And finally, UNDER the metric wrenches that were placed in there little holders was the little bastard...

Man, i was happy and very pissed at the same time, it seems like stupid s*** always happens and slows things down... Or maybe i have a short term-SQUIRREL! LOL.

I hate to tell you this. ...but the older you get...the more the frequency and range of this kind of thing seems to manifest itself. .....

You spend more and more time looking for stuff you lost....and you misplace the silliest things. ......

You think you are going insane. ...but usually. ..it's right where you thought it should be. ..but jeeeeest hidden from view. ......:mad2::mad2:

We don't have low or high areas
Just flat

From north to south 6km the height changes 1.5m
And east to west 4km it changes .3m

I hate misplacing stuff
Doing circle work till it appears where u have already looked

Worst is when someone borrows a tool and puts in back in the wrong spot

When I can't find it I end up loosening it and going off at who ever borrowed it
Till they show me where it is

Well. ...since I created this thread as a place to vent. ...as well as a place to post the positive. ...I guess I'll update my current situation. ...as well as rant a bit in general.......after all. ...that's why I started this. ....:cornut:

Things are good. ...considering not too long ago. ...I woke up and said oh crap....I'm still alive. .....

I'm slowly working my way back into the land of the living. ...it doesn't take much to make me happy. ....just enough money that money is not a problem. ...eat/ pay bills/...maybe a little bit left over......

To be physically able to do what is necessary. ....to not have too much pain to endure during the waking hours. ....

In other words. ....what most people have and take for granted.

Anyway- things are pretty good right now. ...I still have some mountains to climb before I can come close to where I used to be. ....but there's no danger of putting a gun to my head and **** near pulling the trigger. ....which has happened. ....not many can understand why and where I am coming from. ....because they did pull the trigger. .....

I have always been super optimistic. ...and it's what has kept me alive....so the other side of the coin is this. .....you can't really appreciate life until you face and contemplate death.....you can't really appreciate what you have If you have never been without. .....I am blessed on both counts. ....there is nothing sadder than a rich man in good health chasing happiness. ... (like a dog chasing his tail. .)........looking for something he already has. .

We all have a little bit of that in us.....

So....where I am. ....things are better than they have been in a long time. .....it's a glorious day. .....beautiful weather. ...and the only thing holding me back now is me.....Yeah. ...I can barely pay the bills....I can barely eat.. (physically. ...**** Cancer!!!......).....but life is good. .....

So give thanks for what you have. .....to whom ever gave it to you. ....REALLY..and enjoy the day. .....we all survived another Friday the 13th!!!!!

Ok- fowler..... you're not the only one with dangerous critters in your backyard. ....I got bit a couple of days ago. ....fortunately. ..I'm so mean and evil.....I just bit this rattlesnake back. .and it was all good. ...

JK.......Those are chigger bites....that I scratched. . ...annoying- but far from deadly. ....even rattlesnake bites are rarely deadly..but the tissue damage. .is nothing short of sickening. ....

Actually. ...the most dangerous critters known to man are prevalent in these parts.....the mosquito. ....

The one thing that actually seeks you out as a victim. ..silent and deadly. ....

This is kinda a weird day.....it's kinda like looking at a lemon. ....

IDK......I get up this morning. .....it's raining. ....my pet betta.."George" is floating upside down just below the surface. ..tapping the bowl gets no response. .....so I grab the net and poke him with the handle. ......well guess he just decided to sleep in a goofy way.....prolly been around me too long......

So also....I wake up with a sore throat. ...on one side. .....which isn't too cool. ...especially when it's the same side that I had the Cancer on......that freaks me out a little. ......

BTW....... It's now a thunderstorm here....and pouring rain. ....and I had a lot of stuff planned to do outdoors. .......

So here's the other side of the coin.....I'm such a lazy procrastinator that there is plenty of stuff to do indoors. .....

Whether I live or die is out of my hands. .....the devil has been trying to get me for years.....and has been pretty successful at steering me the wrong way here in the past. ....but for some unknown reason. .. (and I really have been trying to figure this out. ....) the good Lord wants to keep me around. ...IDKY....

Is it possible that even He can make a mistake??????? :lolgoku:

So. ......honey.....I don't know how my day is today....I just know. ..whatever it is. ....I'll try and make the best of it. ....and be thankful for the good.....try not to dwell on the bad. ...and always remain hopeful that the next day will be better. ....

NOW. ....I'm still pissed it's raining. ...........

Sorry Doug; it's been to dang hot and to dang hectic at work the last couple of weeks. I swear, If I wanted to deal with heat in the shop over 90° F with dew points in the high 70's, I would have moved to your part of the country.....

HUH???? Up here in Michigan, we actually try to supervise our children when they play with explosives, and for the most part we succeed. Now, as far as calling people names? We try to be a little more discrete than y'all down south....

I apologize for Doug, Tony. It's just that when someone started a thread about 6 months ago, about what did we all do when it got cold out, Doug stated that he moved into warm quarters online...... I've tried to keep it clean; his original post was a little more graphic....
