So my day.. today (well the last few hours of it)...
It started a few days back when we guys had our first quarterly men'sdayout...
A friend complained about his iphone five... start button not working and now.. his
sound/vibrate stopped working too and his battery isn't holding up anymore...
Since it's an iphone five (too new to be replaced) I ordered the parts and today was the day.
I watched some yt-video on how it has to be done (since this was my first fifth gen iPhone) I packed my tools and here I go.
When I arrived his little daughter was still awake,
she wanted to have a facial mask to wear the next morning to "scare" mom...
Sooo a little doodling, a little cutting..
and a testfit just before she had to go to bed:

We made some burgers while I finished the mask

Now.. time to fix'a'phone...
I fumdled 20 mins at least on the display with my suction cups to lift that
frontplate...
until I took my trusty old swiss army knife and it popped on first try .. no scratch whatsoever.
SAK rules!!!
Anyways, 40mins, countless ever so tiny screws and connectors later his phone was disassembled so that the flat ribbon cable that's glued to the backside of the phone could be removed.

And the new cable was in another 30mins later
(boy that start button hinge... big PITA to put back in!)
Anyways.. phone was practically reassembled another 15mins later until I got to the small coax cable on the mainboard.
I said: "Wow that went much better than expected"
he said "Oh, don't call it a day just yet.."
and pooof...(the magic dragon) there goes the GSM coax cable.. broke of the connector.

Well then, I don't have a replacement, I need to return some other day to replace that.. it's basically the topmost cable and no big deal to replace, now that I know how to remove that stupid screen easily.
clipped in the screen connectors, attached the screws, boot up the phone and..
start button : checked,
mute switch: checked,
volume up: checked,
volume down: che..???
....
volume up: checked,
volume down:
NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
(okay picture a fifty five minute rant about apple, ribbon cables, and why you glue them on the backside of a phone, connectors, tools, switches and basically the world an it's inhabitants...)
So the NEW part I bought has a defective lead, just as the one I removed (a different one, but still defective)
:toetap05:
great.. thanks for that!
But that'll have to wait until the new cables arrive ...
day over!
