Um...for the class, could ya explain the difference between a voltage divider & a Buck convertor?
Sure, I will explain it the best I can in my fine de luxe crown induced state.

A voltage divider is like sticking a fork in a toaster. For it to operate, power is applied to the
heating element wire (resistors) , at both ends. For it to operate, power will always be wasted by heat.
regardless of any load present or not. When the toaster is powered up, and a fork stuck in the middle,
you become the center tap, and the voltage will be divided in half. That is a voltage divider.

A switch mode converter uses fancy witchcraft and transistor technology to
turn on and off the power quick enough to regulate it without wasting all that power.
Duty cycle/ on time = power.

That ebay job should do, hope this explanation is adequate.

Anyway this build is amazing!

Witchcraft :smiley_omg:

I knew them :censored: Chinese dudes were up to something :furious2:
...& so, that's where the "magic smoke" comes from (always wondered about that) 🤣

JK, :roflol:that was a good analogy ;)

I been workin' on mountin' everything into the dash board

The power meter fits in nicely
...the switches seem ta fit a bit more "snugly", after the coat of paint
...but, the speedo was a bit more challenging

The speedo doesn't have any mountin' tabs or a "lip" or anything
...but, it came with (2) sided tape (so, I guess it's just supposed ta be "plastered" right "on" your dash board)

So, I figured that I could just "glue" it in with some of that liquid tape stuff
...& then, simply "trim" off the extra, in the mornin'

But, I was wrong
...O so, wrong
Everything went "as planned", until I started trimmin' & pealing off the excess :smiley_omg: & WTF :unsure:SAM_3646.JPGSAM_3660.JPG

I seems, or looks like the solvents in the liquid tape "softened" the paint, that it was in contact with :furious2:
...it even "ate" into the edge of the lens on the speedo

This is NOT what I had in mind :censored::censored::censored:

My original plan was to use the Liquid Tape ta "glue" the speedo in
...kinda like a "drizzle in" liquid caulk
...or DIY "form a gasket" :2guns:

I've used this Liquid tape many, many times
...& on many, many different types of materials
...& it shouldn't have been a problem (this stuff usually peels off (when necessary) without causing any damage) ;)

* Note to self: don't do that again :cheers2:

Well, lets try Plan B (always gotta have a Plan B)

I didn't cut or peel off anymore of the "excess" (probably best ta let it be)
...& just let 'er sit in the sunshine for a few hours (ta let them "soft spots" harden back up a bit)

Next, I masked off around the "instruments"
...& painted 'er Satan black (ta kinda, hopefully "even" things out or at least help "hide" the :censored: up)

Are you going to put up a little cafe racer windshield to be able to use the H.U.D.?
I'd have ta say, it's a maybe, on the windscreen

Mainly 'cause real Slingshots have a small windscreen
......not for a HUD (heads up display)

* By the by
I thought a small digital speedometer would be "handy" (to actually know how fast we were going)
...& maybe even for gathering some data ;)

The GPS (global positioning satellite) is a kool feature 'cause there's no speed sensors necessary, on any of the wheels (or wires running to them)
...& ya don't have ta "set it up"(like inputting the wheel size)
...or even calibrate it

Another thing, although this speedo says GPS HUD Speedometer, in big/bold letters, right on the front of the unit
...I don't think that, this particular unit, is actually HUD capable
...'cause I don't see any provisions, on the unit, for a HUD display

I even went back & checked on the ad specs
...& it doesn't mention anything about a "HUD" feature (other than in the title)
...or how to operate the "HUD" or anything

Try checking on the instructions. Even the GPS downloaded on my phone has a HUD feature. What it does is invert the readout and light it up or something so you can see the reflection of it correctly in the windshield when you stick it on top of the dashboard.
Um...I read the instructions o_O

Well, here is a link to the ad
https://www.ebay.com/itm/255077696088
...& here is the
Product Description
Specifications:
Model: C60S
Screen size: 3.0 inch
Product material: ABS+PC
Input voltage: DC 5V
Working temperature: -30~80°C
Input current: 50~120mA, can be powered by power banks (It has no built-in lithium battery and only saves the total mileage data when power is off, other data is not saved)
Satellite positioning speed: 1 to 3 minutes in open space; no satellite signal when indoor. (rainy days affect satellite positioning speed)

IDK...but, it seems like "their version" of HUD is to just simply mount the unit "up high" :roflol:

* Here are some pics of the "touched up" dash board

...it's not perfect
...but, way better :cheers2:

Before installing the "hood", I connected all of the "plugs" & made sure everything works as expected (yup) :wai:

* I cut a 1 1/2" x 1/4" foam rubber strip
...& installed it in between the "hood" & it's mounting bracket  (just ta "pad" 'er a bit)

Then bolted 'er down
...& installed the "upper" front bumper (which holds down the lower, front part of the hood) :cheers2:

It seems ta "fit" really well ;)

I also, took a couple of pics, around darktime, ta help "highlight" the look of the gauges & head lights :sifone:SAM_3666.JPGSAM_3667.JPGSAM_3670.JPG

I like it and I like the looks of it. I think it is fantastic. The only thing I can’t get past is the electric motor power plant. I’ll take a good old gas engine any day. Sorry. :worried2:

Hey Denny,
Thank you very much :cheers2:
...it seems ta be turnin' out pretty good

Um...I MUST say, electric motors are the future
...but, it's kool if some folks are "stuck in the past" :devil2::stir: (Oops, did I say that out loud?) :sarcasm::innocent:

I'm just not that interested in (the same old, same old) anymore
...it's like workin' on/buildin' "Model T's"
...but, "the future" (& these electric motors & batt packs) Oh, Yea, :bannana:that intrigues me :drool5:

FYI:
The last "gasser" or ICE kart, that I built, was way back in like 2005 (or '07 who knows anymore)
...it was so far back (before the Predator engines) that the 6.5HP engines Harbor Freight sold then were blue & called Greyhounds :2guns:

TBH:
I "caved" & mounted the "gasser" on 'er, after my first attempt, at building an electric powered kart failed :ack2:

Good learnin' experience though ;)218 - Copy.JPG219 (1).JPG224 - Copy.JPG231 - Copy.JPG238.JPG235.JPG

Don’t worry your not the first to call me a dinosaur. That is a darned good looking kart too.
Hey Denny,

If ya look close, some of the welds, they are AWFUL (technical term)
...& (POP QUIZ) Can anyone tell what's wrong (or at least not right) "in" that last pic? (in the last post)
...& (for some bonus points) why?

Anyways
Thanks again!

Here are a couple of pics, of that (didn't even give that one a name)...um...red kart ;)
FYI:
It was (then) powered by (1) 12V car starter battery
...& motivated by a V8 Chevy starter motor & flywheel
...& then, it was belt driven with a spring loaded clutch mechanism (see pics)

Upon the (1) & only test drive, with this set-up, it was very slow (~8-10MPH) & real noisy
...& I/we only made it about (2) city blocks (before we burnt'ed up the starter motor)

C'mon MadPro
...you got this!;)
or
Anyone else?
...this is an important detail that every DIYGO KART'er should know about :cheers2:

Oop's now I notice another issue
...so now, there's (2) notable "issues" in the pic :stir:

Here is the pic, Ima talkin' about, for reference

The brake band is wrong, the cable should pull it the other way.

The second IDK, did the gas tank hit the back of the seat whenya hit a bump?
Yup, that is (1) of 'em
...& is the main issue I was talkin' about
...also, explains why the "braking action" on this kart SUCKED :ack2:

* The "pull" side of the "brake band" should always be going the same direction as the "brake drum" ;)
...so, the "brake drum" doesn't "fight" against the "brake band" :cheers2:

When set up correctly, it actually aids the braking action
...because the friction of 'em comin' together, kinda "sucks" (technical term) 'em together even more :2guns:

That would be a nope on the second issue
...& so, I'll leave that question "open" for a minute :stir::devil2:

..........are you going to tell us how the upper end of that shock stays on that pin?
................and any good reason why the A-arm pivot bolthead just twists against the nice paint instead of using a washer?
..............in fact, there's washers missing all over that kart.

It's this stuff called "Gription"
...developed by NASA (top secret) so, that's all I can say :devil2:
................and any good reason why the A-arm pivot bolthead just twists against the nice paint instead of using a washer?
Um...weight
...this is the point, in my kart building career, where I realized just how much 10" x 5/8" bolts weigh :furious2:
...so, ta add a bunch of big 'ol 5/8" washers too :smiley_omg:
..............in fact, there's washers missing all over that kart.
OH, c'mon really! "washers"?
...that's your "final answer"? o_O

* If ya don't "see it", it's kool, I'll tell ya :cheers2:

There's no retaining bolt, holding the clutch on :ack2:
