Wrangler: Flat out cheesy looking.............Slingshot hood vent: Ridiculous price............Slingshot stickers: Plagiarism, and so not at all original...........
Mustang: Not bad, good price too................2 x 3D fake vents: Very realistic, good price, best of the bunch.
Ya think so?

I ain't lookin' ta buy any of 'em
...just lookin' (for ideas & such)

As for plagiarism, Ima not a makin' a bunch of these & selling them for profit
...it's art
...it's a replica of a Slingshot
...& a "tribute" to the Slingshot :bannana:

If ya was makin' a replica of a Corvette (or Jeep or '57 Chevy etc.)
...would ya call it a Corvette (or Jeep or '57 Chevy)
...or Covette ta NOT get in trouble (or Jep or '57 Cheby)

So, currently (he, he) Ima thimkin' maybe something like this :2guns:(see first pic)

SAM_3532.JPG
Which is kinda like ya see on the blue Slingshot (second pic)
...but, Ima thinkin' ta incorporate the "name" right into the stripes (ta be a bit more "original" & 'cause there ain't a lot of room on my hood)
...& (like I said before) I'll probably use a different font, for the "name" cut out(s) (ta avoid issues) :sifone:

Okay, I cede the plagiarism to a one-off piece of art. What about the originality on the louvers? Really should be your own.
Well, Ima thinkin' the louvers (if I go that way)
...are gonna be (satan or flat) black vinyl same as the "hood stripes" (shown in the drawing above)

Something like in the small drawings, in the pic below

Ima gonna try-n-get a bit creative with 'em :cheers2:
...but, keep 'em simple
...& still kinda resemble the "original" ;)

Also, keep in mind that my hood is quite different (original) than a Slingshot hood
...& as such, the louvers & stripes will/are gonna be, quite a bit different (original) too :sifone:

All "still up in the air"
...we'll just have ta see what I come up with :popcorn:who knows?

Well, I finally went ahead & put a coat of paint on the hood
...& for this one, I tried something different

I used some Gloss White Rustoleum Oil Based paint
...but, I thinned 'er out (ta make it sprayable)
...& also, added some hardener (ta well, make 'er harder)
...so, now it's 2K Rustoleum ;)

* This Rustoleum oil based paint is already really durable (I've used on truck frames for years)
...bit, when ya add hardener to it, I found that it turns out kinda like "eggshell" tough :2guns:

** I also, sprayed a bumper piece that goes on my truck (had ta do a small repair)

*** Also, also, A dumb :censored: stupid bug got the bright idea ta land in my beautiful, fresh, wet paint job :furious2: :mad2:
...then, later, I noticed that he brought "friends" (there's like (6) stupid bugs in my paint job) :ack2:SAM_3538.JPG

Here's a few more pics
...after wet sanding them stupid bug "bodies" outta my paint job :cheers2: (with 1,000 grit sand paper)

I got most of 'em out
...so, it's NOT exactly perfect
...but, art NEVER is :smartass:

All-n-all, I think it turned out pretty kool ;)
Ima kinda likin' it:sifone:

Yup, I'd have ta agree :cheers2:

I've used some 2K automotive type paint on a few of my karts (!ARRIBA!, Damien, El Mini, Excalibur & Torsk)

They turned out really nice :2guns:
...but, it seems to scratch & chip really easily :furious2:
...& there's NOTHING worse than to have a nasty "gash" (scratch) in an otherwise beautiful finish :ack2:

So, this is "a test" ta see how much more "hardy" this "finish" is/will be than them automotive paints ;)

You've got production quality work there. I know it's ridiculously long and difficult to do everything needed to get that kind of quality product, so double kudos to you for the effort.
Thanks! :cheers2:
...just doin' my thing ;)

Tryin' ta "lead by example" :innocent:
...ta show folks what ya "can do", in your back yard, with standard, easily accessible materials :2guns:
...plus, a little bit of hard work

& (more importantly)

My father always told me "If your gonna do something, ya might as well do it right" :sifone:

Ready for some "Arts & Crafts"?

I have some orange vinyl
...so, I figured I would try-n-do-some-creatin' ;)

* FYI: this is just a "test piece"
...just ta "see", how it would look
...& for "fitment" purposes too

Ta do it, I measured & marked, the main shape
...then, "roughly" drew out the "Slingshot" name
...& then, cut 'er out (all as per my drawin') :2guns:

So it should look something kinda like this :sifone:

I layed 'er on the hood, just ta "see" ;)

Hmmm...Not Bad, Not Bad at all I must say

Next, I cut out the "name" with an Exacto knife
...& layed 'er on 'er again

Yup, "that's what I'ma talkin' about"

Don't know what's better, the patience of a saint, or the patience of an ain't, looks like you might have a little of each to get that cut out half decent with that dangerous Exact-O. If it were me I'd either have given up or gotten lost looking for my butterfly bandages and gauze.
I'm carrying around a gallon of other people's Type A-positive, and only a little less than 1/2 gallon of my own that I had left. That's why I sometimes instinctively stop and think and maybe shy away from the assorted kinds of razorblades on my bench, got to be responsible with those gifts they gave to bring me back. Especially since I can't donate in kind to repay, they won't take mine.

Um...OK...it's just a pencil/pen with a "different" tip
...just gotta "stay outta it's way" ;)
...or better yet, make sure it knows "whose in control" :sifone:

As far as "stripe" fitment
...it just didn't look "right"

So, when I made up a piece for the left side, I made the "wide part" of the stripe kinda "kick back" a bit (~1") :2guns:
...instead of it just going straight down

Yup, Ima likin' that better :bannana:
