I have an off road skate board and it is only one wheel drive in the back right tire. I took out the old motor and put a 148cc 3.5 B&S Engine on and i want to make it two wheel drive.

here is the issure and where i need help..

skate boards use front and rear axles for steering.. so would a Locked live axle in the rear make the skate boards steering terrible? i know i should use a differential but theres not much room back there..

With the back wheels so close together and the turning circle of (typical) skateboards being quite large I don't think you will have any problems running a live axle.

However, I'm not sure how the steering on the rear of a skate board works but it might not be possible to put a solid rear axle there. Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge of skareboards will be able to contribute.

i skate like ummm alot with my freinds and the skate board turns using the trucks wich pivit on a diaganal bolt goind verticle with 2 bushings
i think in his setup the engine is atatched to the rear truck so that the chain wont tighten and loosen when turning

i just found this

yes and since that is how it steers, if i am just sitting in one spot not going anywhere and I lean in a certain direction (like im trying to turn) the front turns one way and the rear turns the other.. enableing a nice little turn radius.. but if im just sitting in one spot and lean.. on the back wheels, one moves forward and the other moves backwards ( to enable the turn) and if i have a fixed locked axle then this wouldnt be possible. now im not sure if this would have much effect on steering once have reached a high speed.. but it could be a large issue at low speeds.. but on the other hand it could even make the board more stable at high speeds..

who knows

i just know one i start the process, there is no turning back

I was just looking at a different gas powered skateboard manufacturer and they have two wheel drive in the rear.. they do this by using a 'semi-differential'

heres a link

now i have no idea what the hell that means or if its possible to buy one.. anyone know about this semi-differential??

i know a differetnial is kinda like a drill
all you know how some drills have those differant numbers on there that at a sertan pressure they start clicking and the motor turns but the drill bit doesnt?
thats kinda how a differential is
it lets one wheel turn faster than the other one so that the wheels are not completely locked up together

Well, I didn't build the diff, I just adapted it from a car diff.
