Well, I know this thread is a couple of months old, but the rear-wheel steering idea is interesting. Has anyone tried doing that with a kart? I was thinking front wheel drive, rear wheel steering, like a forklift. Doesn't matter if it's fast or not - just the driving around concept would be fun.

Oh, yeah, to the YLIITA post, there's also a military acronym called BOHICA - "Bend Over, Here It Comes Again"

Thought about that already, but what about literally reversing everything? Put the drive axle up front on the front two wheels so it PULLS the kart instead of pushing it, and set up the steering on the back pair of wheels? I'm sure someone could get creative enough to figure out how to do the steering, even if it's done by a couple of levers on either side of the seat instead of a regular steering wheel. Doing the articulated bit with the pivot is easy - what I'm talking about would be akin to driving the kart backwards.

If it makes things easier to imagine, try this: Imagine taking the seat and steering wheel off the kart, and swapping places. Now you're driving the kart backwards, being pulled by the motor in front, and steering by using the rear wheels to turn.

How about just making the engine mount on the opposite side of the driven sprocket and putting the engine on that so that it goes backwards? Then turn the seat around so it faces in the opposite direction. Oh wait, but then you have the issue of the steering wheel being directly behind you. Nevermind...:idea2:

Yeah, thought of that already, but most of us don't have triple-jointed monkey arms to reach over our shoulders to turn the wheel ...... Nice try, though.

cool idea could do awsome donuts could be used for front or rear gearboxes are hard to find sometimes though steering linkage is a chain on sprockets so it will spin 360*

The thread asks about "rear wheel drive and rear wheel steering??" and how the mechanics/geometery can be applied to a skateboard application.
The chainsaw vid video shows one solution, thats the reason i posted it, thats all.

Hi Guys, Just found this site and think its very cool.
Have only every built homemade landboards (oversized skateboard used with a windsurfer rig on land) But the idea of a motorized skateboard is very interesting.
Will try to post a pic of my landboard.
Off the Topic but has anyone come accross
http://scooters.tziworld.com

Look at the home built section.
Is there an appropriate area in this site for people who might be interested in home built motorized scooters?
Thanks Luka
