Got my Ironton welding safety gear today! :wai:
It all feels great, plus it was cheap, so now my dad and I have to go get the welder itself! With the 1/8" and 1/16" metal on my kart, this welder will be at about 1/2 power most of the time, hardly even breaking a sweat!

There's a lot more kids on this site than I realized... How many of us adults are still here and building karts? Hehe maybe I'm just stuck on childish things. Basically anything with an engine is what I build

I'm almost 28 and have yet to build a kart. Though I have been doing a near Johnny Cash slow collection of parts to build one.

You've been here since 2016 and haven't built a kart? Man I've built more karts this year than I can count (unless I felt like counting)

Just changed my profile pic to something more appropriate.

Lack of money, time and space to build one. My wife and I before we got married almost 2 years ago, were living at my parents rent free because of a lack of work where were before back in 2013. Had to stay with my parents until winter 2017 when we moved into an apartment in Nebraska. We are still in an apartment, however we'll be getting a house hopefully next year. At which point I should be able to start on my mini buggy project. Originally I wanted to build a sprint kart when I joined, but lack of areas to ride a low riding kart, so a mini buggy is a much better choice, especially since I can get it licensed to ride on trails.

I'm on here to learn from people's builds, ask questions albeit stupid ones usually and attempt to be of some use.

That is pretty much the same reason I am still around. I am 43 :D

I havent pulled my welder out and welded something in probably 4 years. These days I just like reading what other people are up to, and maybe give some average advice :D

My daughter was the one that i used to build stuff for, and with her now out the house with her own car, that motivation isn't there anymore.

I would say that the age istribution on this website is pretty varied. Yes, there are quite a few younger kids nowadays, but I would say the majority are over 20. There was a thread somewhere on the forum taking a poll of ages :D

So 10 years ago when I was in my junior year of high school, I took a welding and fabrication class. It was a 2 school period class and counted for 2 fine arts credit, as we needed 3 fine arts credits to graduate. So for my project, I built a 6'6"x10' frame out of 3"x3"x11ga square tubing. Originally I was going to use it as an Ice fish house. Unfortunately, I never had the funds to build ot or finish it. I had only primed and painted the frame jet black. Surprisingly it still has held up pretty well to Minnesota winters uncovered outside. Unfortunately since I never completed it and with my dad retiring by this fall, need to sell it. Kind of bummed about it, but I feel like if I sere to build it again, it would be 6' wide and 14' long. Would make it a lot nicer for ice fishing or for hunting as a camper.

I've known this for years. Every since I saw a Harbor Freight hydraulic jack squirt flyid accross the room and drop a car. There's a very limited range of items I actually buy from Harbor Freight.

Went racing tonight when I saw there was one going on at the very last minute. I saw a friends post on Facebook when we finished mowing, and the kids didn’t want to go so I threw everything in the truck and drove an hour and a half to the track. They were doing the sign in when I pulled into the pits.
I led every lap of the heat and feature, and my kart came home in the same shape it left in, so it was a good night.

Just spent some more money on my Predator... but good news. There's litereally nothing left to buy. The only thing still classifying it as a Predator is the block and head, although both are modified. We'll see how it rips once I pick up another little street kart. Supposed to go look at one tomorrow.

Also spent a bunch more money on the Crossfire. But that's a whole different ripper...

Well I’ve had a productive quarantine. I got my truck running, built most of a bike ramp, got an old bike of mine going again, and built a garden. And you can tell that we’ve been quarantined for a while, my squash has squash on it, and the story’s the same for my cucumbers, watermelon and pumpkins. Ive also picked about a pound of green beans so far.
