Made up a threaded insert. Its threaded 9/16-20. Ill make the adapters from some brass I think.

I used a torch to "blue" it. Didnt get quite the color I wanted but its not like it really gona be seen too much.

Next will be some final sanding on the knob itself then stickin the pieces together.

Almost finished. Got a piece of brass in the lathe to make an adapter for whatever I put it on.

I would have liked if it was a bit more shiny. Maybe next time.

Welp, today was one of those days where I should have taken it off from work. First thing this morning was flip the white wall of a set of tires inward, so black wall is facing out. Then had to do another set of tires for the same technician. Then just after lunch (1pm), I spent the rest of my day pulling ignition coil packs and spark plugs out of 2 2012 Ram 1500 5.7L Hemi engines...so 32 plugs in all. One of the trucks has the stupid tire pressure light that likes to come on only under acceleration (power braking included). We've been chasing down the issue for almost a week now (myself and the technician training me). We swapped TPMS modules between the trucks, we swapped wheels (easier than pulling each sensor out), we scanned the truck for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), been chasing wires...all to no avail. We looked in our service libarary and saw that aftermarket spark plugs can cause a frequency disturbance with the TPMS system. For whatever reason beyond my comprehension, some spark plugs (outside of stock) ignite with the same or similar radio frequency as the TPMS system, causing issues.

So we pulled plugs out of this truck, they were NGK type R. We called our parts department to see if these were the stock plugs for this truck, they were. So fast forward hours of cussing up a storm and unpaid diag (the truck is going up for sale, but for whatever stupid reason, we are not paid to diag problems, only fix them), and today, I'm in the middle of swapping 16 plugs and 8 coil packs from one truck that's going to auction (too many issues) and putting them in to this truck. While doing so, all 16 plugs from the auction truck are the exact same as the ones in the truck being sold...so basically wasting a boat load of time to fix a problem that might not even go away. On top of that, I had the right set of cylinders done (passenger side), but tightening the coil packs down, I ended up dropping my shallow 10mm socket and I spent the rest of my day tracking it down (20 minutes)...so tomorrow when I punch in, I'm going to be looking my freakin socket and finish doing a swap that may not fix the problem.

Then the cherry on top, since my phone screen is cracked (don't ask, but will say that I wish I had a full Otterbox case), my screen doesn't like to come on now. So now I need to buy a new phone, transfer all my stuff over to it, and pray that I don't lose anymore of my sanity the rest of the week.

Sorry for the long rant, but lessons to be had, have a lot of patience working on stuff. Cool down when you need to. Step away if you are getting incredibly mad at everything, and come back with a clear mind. Stuff happens, life goes on, and hopefully the reward will be worth the risk.

As someone who's (hopefully) going to be going into a mechanical career, this is great advice!!! :wai:

On a side note, my day was bad as well. Got rear ended  can the car guys in here tell me if this is a total or fixable? The body panels are all messed up (can see that in pics lol), the exhaust was pushed up on the back right wheel, and most worryingly, the doors seem to be off, like pushed forward a little bit when they are closed. That really makes me worry about frame damage, which will be an almost guaranteed total. It was not my fault, and the girl who hit me was insured, so that's all ok. BUT, if it comes to a total, Rallye models are really hard to find.

Any input is welcome.

Oh yeah thats repairable. Get a bumper cover and rear quarter panel from a junkyard....and a nice hammer should be able to massage the metal where it needs to go. Don't tell the insurance, it will never end up on CarFax, the value of your car will stay intact along with your rates! May also want to look into a dent removal surfaces that can bend the metal back into shape on anything else. If it becomes too expensive for individual parts, you may want to also consider getting a salvage dart in blue. It doesn't matter if the car has been head on hit...if the back is intact you could probably get a good deal. I don't want to see that car go to waste for that.

For example, here is your car....rally-e and all in blue...at a salvage lot. The parts yoy need from it look in perfect shape...and depending on how much you get it for and what you do wit hit, you may even make some money off selling the good parts off of it. I quickly did a search and a totaled Dart goes for 800-1800$(before tax & ship). I doubt you could get a painted bumper cover from that dealer for that muchhttps://www.copart.com/lot/24008699

Wow man, that's good info there! Yeah, if the insurance guy says it's totaled I'm going to be livid. It is just the back bumper portion that got hit. The car that hit me was a Pontiac station wagon/ small SUV as far as I can remember.

I guess I will wait and see what they say tomorrow. Thing is my car only has 27,000 miles so it's still like new inside, and totaling it would be an absolute shame. Some guys on a Dodge Facebook page were telling me they think it would be about $12-13k to fix it completely, by the time you do all OEM parts, paint, etc. KBB says they estimated my car at about a $21k (ish) value. I always heard that if repairs are going to be over 75% of the cost, it's a total. So who knows.

I will report back tomorrow.

You're lucky that you at least know who did it!
One time, my family and I came out from IKEA to our Kia Sedona minivan having a perfect circular DENT in the rear left quarter panel.
No apology note from anyone, no dings on other cars, no busted car pieces laying on the ground, just some JERK doin' a hit-n-run. :mad2:
Luckily we got it repaired, but now the Kia is dead since one cylinder has on-and-off very low compression. :mad2:
That's a real bummer though about your precious Charger. Good luck!
P.S- Does it have Hemi? I loove Hemis.

My minivan before it was sold had a quarter panel crushed in. Sadly brick walls don't have insurance info, nor take responsibility. A 200" long vehicle vs a really narrow alley way turn didn't end well.

Well a bit of an update. So far and surprisingly the swap has cleared out the issue. Once we got the truck moved, I found my 10mm socket!

Sucks your Dart got rear ended. Just curious what engine you have? None of us here at the dealer like the Multiair engines at all. If you do not keep up on your oil changes (every 3000 to 5000 miles), your engine will consume 1 quart of oil every 750 miles. Being that it has a 5.5qt oil pan, it will be empty fast. The intake valves are operated by what we call a brick, or the technical term Multi-air actuator. It operates with high pressure oil to open and close the valves. Doing so it will use a bit more oil. The 1.4, 2.4 and 1.4 turbo are the same way.

It won't be an easy task to replace those parts that were damaged. Hopefully the person that hit you has good insurance.

MAN that sucks. I would have been livid.

Nope, no Hemi. It's got a v6...still makes 305 horsepower though. I was planning on buying a Hemi but gas and insurance was too much for me right now.

I shouldn't laugh at that, but I did. Pretty funny man. I know that must have been a huge bummer
though.

Yes, yes it does! Actually, it's a Charger (I know it's confusing lol) with the 3.6l Pentastar. It's a very good engine *knock on wood* and from what I've read there aren't any real issues with it (coughs it also handles boost well but that's for later down the road coughs* :p)

As for fixing it, my dad has a friend who owns a body shop we are taking it to. The body shop guy went and looked at the car and from what he could tell said there was no frame damage and should be relatively straight forward. The insurance adjuster is supposed to be checking it out as soon as he can. Dumb me did not get a pic of the girls insurance card, so we have to wait on the police report now to see what the insurance is.

Yeah the Dart isn't really well known for being that great a car from what I've read on the Dodge forums. That's very interesting about the engine using oil! Pretty crazy there.

Was she cute???

No girl looks cute in the eyes of someone with a crashed bumper.

LOL!! When I got out of my car and saw it was a female who had hit me I had the thought of "heck maybe I could get a date out of this". But she wasn't my type, to put it that way. And when we started talking I realized she really wasn't my type lol.

I knew of a guy who saw a girl with a flat tire on the side of the road and he went past her and thought she was cute so he went back to help her...they ended up hitting it off and got married a few years later! But yeah, helping someone with a car issue is lots different than being run into haha!

So I just heard yesterday that my boss has resigned and is emigrating to New Zealand. He got head hunted by a big forestry company there to run their Geographic Information Systems department. That means that there is a good chance that I might be able to get his job!! I am the only person internally qualified, and there are not too many people out in the industry that are qualified to take it either, so hopefully they go for someone internally....like me :D

Lets hold thumbs and see what happens in the next few weeks :D

The only main issues we have seen consistently with the 3.6 is the timing cover likes to leak (starts by the generator/alternator) and the oil filter housing leaks (its apart of the oil cooler), which use need the whole oil cooler to be replaced, now it's just a couple deals and o-rings. Depending on the year of it, it has a 10 year 150,000mi coolant. Spark plugs should be done at every 100,000mi. We usually see Chargers and 300s come in for radio problems.

That's one large move, hope it goes well to that guy. Sounds like you'll be getting a promotion soon, long as they don't try to hire someone outside of the company. Good news is though, they will be saving a ton of money if they do it internally.
