I'll dig up the the gear ratios and figger out the total reduction ratio. Stay tuned!

tech question:
When a "goose egg" on a tire is more than 60% of a tire is it still a goos egg?
Guess where the tire was made!

Is that a yak hair and grease tire?
Yep, obviously the two ply yak hair belts were omitted. Leaving only unreinforced solidified yak grease. Also the speed rating of 12mph is gross exaggeration.
A blow out on the NAG would be a disaster at that speed.
Untold injuries and probably spilled beer. I can handle the injuries!

So project stoopid is kinda collecting dust while the acqusition dept. struggles with material suppliers. So rather than wasting time completely, our team has been looking at the scrap pile for suitable materials for other areas. The used parts pile has coughed up a treasure if the form of a Subuaru steering rack.

In typical hack fashion it was dissambled and evaluated for future use.

stay tuned for more.

That thing come off a car? It appears rather tiny but then again I don’t think Subaru has yet made a car that approaches domestic cars built for manly American men and their big breasted women.

Looks ripe for China-buggy-kart use. What Subaru did it come off, part numbers?

Late 80' Subaru legacy.
part number? seriously?
the japs are no dummies i'd bet they are all the same. ( not the japs, the racks)
it takes a lot of modding, i cut about 16 inches off of it. the hydraulic assist part is gone.
It takes some lathe work, so the conversion is not for everyone. that having been said,
i'll to remember to take more pics.

This Subaru rack looks like it will work out nicely.
so it looks like this when done.
The plan is to use it single ended offset to the right. The angle if the input shaft will need a u-joint wiggley thing to fix the angle. Sure the 90° input shaftwould be nice,
but they cost real money, this didn't. That satisfies my inner cheapskate and killed a few hours.
it took some desigh time, a little trial n error. A little emperial engineering and some design n engineering fluid.
here's a few pics.

Here is the bare nekkid unit. On the right is the rack and rack sean/support bushing. The black tube on the left inthe above pic goes over that end to support the end of the rack. That end used to be the hydraulic assist cylinder.
the black upper part of the unit is just hydraulic valving, no longer needed.

The rack had to be turned .020 inch cuz, well just cuz.

The rightend of the housing needed to tururned and shortened.

Thats about as detailed as i get. However if anyone wants detailed stuff , let me know.
l'll make sumpthin up!
