so after getting the first motor i bought for my kart I had the shaft keyed, changed the oil bought a new spark plug cleaned it super good... after all that, i went to start it and NOTHING!!
so i took it to a good friend of mine that had worked at a mower shop for over 30 years. he looked at it and did a few things to it, And still nothing.. he told me the only thing this motor would be good for is a BOAT ANCHOR...lol... so i was looking for another motor and found this. let me know what you guys think of this motor?

Thanks!

A small engine repair person with over 30 years experience said its no good without a explanation? Do you have spark, compression, timing, valve lash, plug, fuel?

well there was alot he said, i left the motor with him for two days.
when i picked it up it looked better than when i brought it to him..
gas filled to the top, brand new spark plug, plenty of spark!!
he told me it would defanatley need a new carb or a good used one, needed valve job for sure. and then he said something about after the valves job that it would blow withe smoke everywhere. so the overall i would be upside down in price trying to make the motor run.. thats everything!

I'd keep your Green B/S 5hp. The carb is pretty much only toast if the throttle shaft is messed up, or one of the tank tubes busted off. A good cleaning (both tank and carb) and a new diaphram kit (pretty cheap, if you look around) would get your carb back into shape.
As far as the motor goes, if you got spark and decent compression, screw the valves. I'd pour a bit of gas (very little down the carb throat and give it a try. If it fires, then you know it's just a carb job.
Don't let this keep you from getting the red motor- I'm just saying your green one isn't junk.

Looks like a Honda clone. WEN??? I would hope the same quality went into that 6.5. If so, USE IT! I have a 13 hp GX 390 Honda that is screaming to be put on a kart soon. Yes, give that 6.5 a try. Mine runs great. Most Honda engines were used on pressure sprayers , log splitters, wood shredders, etc. and have great potential!. Scott
