I think you need to use clay to check p2v clearance and I see the springs being an issue. It would be better to change the ratio of the rocker arm if you can maintain push rod clearance to get the lift with out the cam putting your springs into bind. Most mechine shops have a coil bind tester for testing open vs. closed. Mushroom lifter would just affect the ramp rate not the total lift.

For mushroom lifters to actually do anything, the edge of the lifter would have to be riding the lobe on opening and closing. Something just dawned on me about the smoking. I bet all that lift destroyed the valve seals. (Which are cheap, and easy to replace)

Always so quick to say someone is wrong with little to no discussion on how or why. If he is even right. And he knows just how serious I am about this engine build.

I believe you are right. I need to take a pic. I'm not sure if the valve guide seal portion thing came out some or not. It'd be nice if it did so it could cure all the excess smoke. I'll take a pic and see if anyone knows if it did.

That E clip on the rocker looks pretty wonky, as far as the seal goes, I don't see one (don't know what I'm looking at on a predator) My honda has one that slips over the intake valve guide and seals that way. It looks like at coil bind it would thrash the seal causing it to pull oil everytime it sees vacum.

There are a lot of guys that still have cams reground in the turbo world, not uncommon at all. This is a whole nother can of worms though.
I've been thinking about the lifter deal, and if the face was cupped it might create a little more duration, but at the same time it would load the lifter weird when it did, and I would assume, screw with the rotation causing the cam to go flat. Just my simple hillbilly figuring, no substantiating information to back this up at all. That's why I'm interested in this whole deal, there is a whole lot to camshaft design, and what if it runs hard like this? I'm sure the first person to strap a roots blower (originally designed for mineshaft ventallation) to an engine was called nuts more than once. Also, I was one of the early guys in the DIY turbo movement, and my first one was a joke to look at, and everyone laughed at me when I showed up at the track with it. A track record, two track championships, and the fact that I only lost 3 rounds of competition in two years (heads up racing) shut them up pretty quick. Stay with it FR, I'm pulling for ya.

(Edit) the guys at the track were calling me a stupid hillbilly, and saying that would never work. Long story short, I got it working, and started whipping them. Someone made the observation "ya know, that stupid hillbilly is flying" and it stuck, I've been the flyinhillbilly since.

I need to do a lot of slow reading and re-reading on this. Thanks for sharing the knowledge  . It's always beneficial not only to me but anyone else learning the advanced small-engine stuff like me and a couple others on here.

Like someone said yesterday on here.. Nothing a hammer can't fix lol.

and the valve guide in the center of that Thing which I assume is a seal? I'm open to corrections if anyone knows what it is called. The center is the valve..then the valve guide..then the Thing around the valve guide..then the head its self.

If I could go back and just change the rocker ratio I would. But i've had some fun during this time and gained a big amount of knowledge about high lift cams in the process so I am completely fine with it now.

I'd rather learn at home than deal with attention deficits and social anxiety in a social schooling environment. I absolutely hated school because of it.

eggssss-ACTLY. I agree with everything you just said.
Nice blow-through. I bet she pulls with some serious G-forces once traction is gained.

10.90's smoking the tires and pedaling. All steel, glass is glass, real pump gas street car. It looks much better now though, I've slowly improved my skills and equipment over the years. I don't get laughed at much anymore.

Whew that's nice. I stared at it for like 8 whole minutes.

Do you have a video run of it? Track or street is fine with me . 10.90 in a quarter sounds reaally nicee.

Just don't come to Texas with it. Sorry to disappoint, but several of my relatives have sub-10 second naturally aspirated cars.

How bout a spring pocket cutter?

Thanks but i've seen the price range from $35 to over $100 so no thanks.
Spring Pocket Cutters: http://www.ebay.com/sch/items/?_nkw...12&_fpos=&_fspt=1&_sadis=&LH_CAds=&rmvSB=true

and typing in "valve spring pocket-cutter" on ebay brings up some nice bladez. Even a (oh dare I say it) Ballistic, spring-assisted knife that I reallyyy want now.
Never bring a knife to a gun fight? Oh yeah?? *pewm* Wha' Sup now, buddy ? lol
-----
ADDED: or something even more interesting.. cutting valve-reliefs in the piston.

Yeah, I know of lots of those too (especially if you consider E85 pump gas), but most are "street" cars instead of street cars. I towed my boat with this thing. I've had this conversation lots of times.

Aright guys. Some weird witchcraft-like stuff going on again.

So my bent SS pushrod..Same length as an unbent pushrod!
Can a pushrod stretch??

I now have plenty of coil play and P2V clearance. WEIRD!!

I will admit Po' Boy HAS taught me one thing. The difference between COMPRESSION and COMPRESSION RATIO. I will give thanks for that. Big difference there.

and learned a secret you probrably wont see anywhere else on the internet. Maybe it was constructive vandalism lol , idk but it's cool.

Thank you, here's an old video. You can see the trailer hitch, in the second part you can hear it spinning the tires all the way down and keep your eye on the steering wheel.

PB is a little coarse, but he know's what the heck he's talking about. I'm curios about this pushrod deal. Have you checked to make sure that it's not cycling so far that it's getting into the guide plate? Check for marks on the pushrod anywhere? Since it was new that should give you a tell tale sign where to look.

Maybe you can modify a spade bit. That and a drill extension. Make up some wood dowel pilots. Not gonna get you into mass production. it might work. Its cheap. I bet if you ask nicely Poboy will give you a pile of em.

That would be pretty tough...I understand what you are saying... But...I just don't think it's that feasable.

Setting up a guide jig for a carbide cutter would be easier and more feasible.

But...it had the mental wheels turning for a few minutes.

Couldn't load the pic earlier. Had slow internet. WitchCrafted pushrod..

Got the 'moly rods in today(still need to take a good pic)

I'll have a good video of the valve and pistons having plenty of space between them.

Review: Stock 8.5 compression ratio with about 120psi compression last time I checked.
I have steel(not stock) head-bolts. I wonder if ARP makes some the size of the Predators and how much they cost, or if steel would be fine. For later for sure. I have a PM to send someone. I think he bought some a while back.
