OK, so im in the process of building up my first kart. Ive slowly build up information and a knowledge stock pile before i started this project. Heres what i have so far.

Haase Sprint Kart Chassis = $100 (ebay)
Tecumseh 11hp = $230 (ebay)

Heres a Pic of the engine when i first got it. I picked up this trick air cleaner that was covered on one side to prevent dust from the ground from getting in it.

The Stock Switches and knobs and key start HAD to go so i pulled that garbage off and drilled a hole in the side of the cover and installed a kill/ start switch. (dont worry, im putting one on the steering column too)

Then a few weeks later my chassis came in the mail!!

I removed the governor and i realized that i needed a way to monitor RPM. I looked on the interweb and i quickly found out that these reading devices cost alot of money. SO i found this and it made my life alot easier. I made a bracket for the magnet out of an old hose clamp that i straightened out.

Then i mounted the Display on the steering wheel.

Well thats all i have so far, atleast until i get my rear axle components in later this week.

Quick Update:

Random Pic of the work Area

The original Orientation of the carb and manifold was pointing downward. So when i mounted the engine on the chassis it was hitting the frame and was VERY close to the ground. Solution? Turn thw whole manifold 180* upward....

This created a unique problem, Fuel delivery. since the original setup was gravity fed i needed a pump of some sort to deliver the gas. Answer? Walbro Pulse pump via ebay for $30.

Ironically i havent started the motor yet. when i get my header in the mail i think i will start it. lol.

just idling wont do anything. and its more of a thing on high performance engines

It may be okay if its reccomended for lawnmower use etc..also those type of manifolds create a atmospheric pressure that may affect how it runs mounted like that.I guess youll find out haha

Well some jr drag racers use those pumps and they can pump 1 liter of alcohol in 20 seconds so....That means ALOT of flow. But if your needle and seat is strong enough then maybe the float will shut off the fuel flow.

Good point tyler, but what im thinking is... If its a pulse "powered" pump, then wouldnt its flow capability be determined by the pulse width or by the amount of vacuum the engine creates. Another thing, how can a manifold produce a pressure above 14.7 psi. That dosent make sense. The curved manifold on this engine is pretty much no different than the curved manifolds for sale for GX200's on the Affordable Go Karts website.

Question: How does a float carb work exactly?

There is a bowl of gas that the engine sucks up, when the fuel gets low the float floats down and lets gas in till it floats up and an attached needle plugs the fuel inlet hole.

Similar to a toilet tank.
Yes russ is right but I will explain in more detail. There is a plastic or brass hollow float inside the carb bowl. Inside of the bowl there is a valve with a tapper on it. The valve with a tapper is attached to the float. So when the float rises the needle valve moves upward, shutting off the fuel flow.

I see, i took my carb apart a few minutes ago and inspected the pieces. I see how it functions now. So will my fuel pump push the float open when its closed?

i think the pump will be okay, as long as the needle and float work well. and in most carbies, when over filled they usually have a pipe witch will let the over flow leak out. (they have this in motor bike carbies, so if left on their side, the fuel in the bowl will drain out, so i assume your engine will be similar. However i cannot see the tube in your photos.

Ibnzmonkey, I was looking at that filter you're using and it looks like it's just pressure fitted into that carb. Is that so?

where does the bottle of budwieser go? and does it make it go faster like it does my kart?

It's a virtual performance additive, the more you use, the more it seems like you're going fast to the point it seems like you're losing control.
