alright that certainly clears things up about the wheels, thanks. other than that I think all the parts will work right? Its been slow progress so far so I will try to keep it updated. Any other suggestions from anyone are welcome.

(sorry to be appear so naive, I just want to make sure things are done right)

Don't worry- asking questions is a major part of learning. Patience is, too- so let things take time and don't worry about getting "all the answers" right away!

The list is a good start, continue to research things and verify that each component is compatible with the next. Be flexible, too- you may come across a deal on something that might cause you to alter something else to suit.

No worries- I just don't want to see you make any rash decisions, possibly buying a part that may not be the best choice after everything else is considered.

Oh man wow. I got my kid the same frame for a Christmas project. I have it up, and running, but planning on making it a live axle like yours. So I'm watching to learn along with you. So ask a lot of question's, so when its time to do my sons conversion I can look cool like I already know everything. LOL

Revised Parts list:

Axle 36" - http://www.bmikarts.com/item/1-Live-Axle-4000-717

Bearing Hangers - http://www.bmikarts.com/item/1-Bearing-Kit-2-hole-400405-712

Brakes - Caliper - http://www.bmikarts.com/item/Mechanical-Caliper-400282-7699
Rotor - http://www.bmikarts.com/item/8-Brake-Rotor---Black-05706B-6557
Hub - http://www.bmikarts.com/item/Hub-with-3-1-8-Bolt-Pattern-400243-or-600253-6500

Sprocket and Hub - http://www.gokartgalaxy.com/uni-hubs_&_vari-hubs.htm - Part # 2555-C (combo)

Chain - http://www.gokartgalaxy.com/chain_guards.htm - #35 36" chain Part #4316

Wheels - http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp two of these for the back, I'm gonna get some wheels from Harbor Freight for the Front.

Wheels Hubs - http://www.bmikarts.com/item/4-x-4-Rear-Wheel-Hub-with-a-1-Bore---White-260051-1093 Two of these to match the wheels on the rear

I am still confused on how the wheels hubs attach to the axle and spin the wheels etc.

I did some research and all of the parts seem like they will all be compatible with each other. Any advice/observations/criticism is always welcome. Happy New Year to everyone and I hope to order these parts soon to start work on my kart the first or second week of January.

Thanks to everyone for all their help. :cheers2:

Those particular hubs don't have a built-in retention method. They key to the shaft to transfer the power, but have nothing to keep them from sliding side-to-side. Possible options for you include drilling and tapping them for setscrews, locking collars, cross-drilling for a lynch pin, etc. Your axle (link above) appears to be threaded at the end. So, a large nut will keep the hub from sliding out. To keep the hub from sliding in, you can butt it against a bearing directly, or if clearance is a problem you can use a combination of spacer(s) and locking collar(s) against the bearing.

Is a 36 in axle going to be long enough? I measured the stock static on mine last night to get ready to order my axle, and got around 38". I guess it depends on the wheel, and tire combo your going to use too.

After some resaerch, I found that the distribution center for Go Kart Galaxy is only an hour or so away from my house so the guy said that if I come pick it up myself, I wont have to pay for shipping :sifone:

That being said, I found this throttle and brake hookup package on their site: http://www.gokartgalaxy.com/parts_packages_combos.htm - Its the second listing on the page

I also had an idea that I came up with and I am sure it has been put out there before, can you buy Harbor Freight wheels like this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/10-inch-pneumatic-tire-with-gold-hub-41475.html and just take the hub off to use on the back? Thinking about it makes me think it is not sturdy enough to hold up the the stress of the rear axle, but hey, its worth a shot right? Or should no one waste their time on it?

Be careful with them (GKG) - the shipping cost really adds up quickly.

:ack2:

Aaaaaaaaanyway......

Those wheel assemblies are globally famous for self-destructing in short order. Use at own risk.
