On the keyway, I am not too sure if the hammering will work, it is almost as if the bottom of the key way is just too narrow to fit it through.

Gonna talk to a guy that has a lathe to see if he has any ideas, maybe lathe downthe axle justa tinsy tiny bit. Its the jumb from threaded to nonthreaded, that lip, that it is gettting snagged on

EDIT - Maybe opening up the hub bore might be easier and a better idea....

You could take a file to the key itself for a custom fit. I had to do that to remove rust from a key. Works well.

I'd take a file to both the shaft and keyway... probably just a very small ridge or lip keeping the hub from going on.

I am planning on welding on a steel plate on my frame to bolt the caliper braket too. What size/thickness/gauge do you recommend? (sorry if the explanation is confusing)

My neighbor who works at a golf course has some tires for me, but they are currently too big to put on the frame, if I move the asle hangars back a bit, it should fit. Any problems with this? just planning on cutting htem off and rewelding them back on.

here are some pics of what I want to do.

The first one: pretty self explainatory I think

Second one:Black is the piece of steel to weld onto the frame to bolt the caliper bracket to

Ask any questions you might have.

Looks good to me as well.

One suggestion - If adults or two kids are going to ride it, and/or it's going to be ridden on anything other than pavement, it's prolly a good idea to double-up the fore-aft frame rails from just forward of the rear axle to somewhere up under the seat. A couple of pieces of angle-iron work well, welded about every 6 inches or so along the bottom of the round tubing.
I did this when we lengthened my frame, otherwise I'm sure it would either have cracked or sagged by now. And I still welded up a crack where the seat-side-rail joins the frame this weekend.

I DO like acetylene!

Well I talked to my neighbor who works in the irrigation business, and I knew his guy who fixes controllers might be able to help me with my gas tank. He sealed the crack right up, and even a small one in the gas cap itself. IMO, he did an awesome job. He even wrote me a note to tell me to put some liquid or paste thread sealer on it. Jamyers directions were spot on. Hes awesome. anyway...enough of my rambling.

Lathe guy got called into work the day we were supposed to work on it, trying again this weekend.

yea, got the sproket hub lathed last night and it fits perfect. Mocked up teh rear axle today, maybe/maybe not have to do some fab work to get the rear wheel to fit...with the wheel it looks pretty BA. Got bicycle cables from sears yesterday, havent tried em out yet.

How's the build going?

Its going slow. I hooked up the axle with the brake rotor and sprocket on it. Ive cut the chain down to length to fit. I got one test tire from my neighbor to see if it would work, and it pretty much fits. My dad and I made up a quick hub out of a piece of wood to dee if it would fit. now I am just waiting on the other tire and two hubs. Once I get that, I have to get with the guy ive been working with to fab up a mount for the brake caliper and from there everything is just bolt on.

Hopefully gonna get it done in May, but it all depends on when I get that tire and hubs...it comin along slow and steady
