TeamCheap, thanks for your suggestion. You make a good suggestion and I know your suggestion can resolve my problem. I should have thought of this suggestion before I started my design to skip the problem that I have now.

Just back home from year end vacation and soon need to complete present designs.

Slow Progress

For short update, I bought the metal shaft rod which is bigger than I usually use to solve my problem with first design. I bought a bigger set of bearing as well. I should post the photos in future if I have chance.

However, I still feel giddy and weak :ack2:probably because of the side affect from the medication that I took in the last week. This has slow down my works at present.

However, I am really impatient to continue with works here:biggrin5:.

Purchase of a 2" diameter rod and bearing

I have learned that smaller rod was not realiable enough. Always broken. Let's see whether a bigger one would help.

So I purchased a bigger one and so the bearing. This will be used for my first design. I spent RM95 for 113cm long 2" diameter, and RM90 for 2 units of the bearings.

At first I thought they were not matching and almost returned to the bearing shop, however after several knockings with wood eventually the rod fitted the bearing size.

This is my first time using this stuff. It's quite heavy and a bit expensive, but hope this will resolve my problem. Some works need to be done at the tip of the rod to weld / put the wheel hub.

Either your steel rod is very cheap, or your bearings are very expensive. How much would it cost to buy a can of coke there by you?? This usually gives a person an idea of what the value of money is in another country.

I am sure that this axle will work perfectly for you. Just think of the difference with this and the firt threaded rod that you started out with. You have learned a lot since your first build.

Thats what I am talking about!!!! Nothing is better than over built.

Thanks Landuse and Bighead for your comments:thumbsup:.

Sorry, if I say that I am a slow learner and not many people in my country that I know really into this DIY building works. May be we have but not that active sharing their works. Luckily we have this forum and by looking at other people's designs and build from other parts of the world, it opened up our eyes and in the same time improving our own weakness. The idea why I chose the 2" diameter rod was based on the internal diameter of my chain sprocket.

I know in earlier post, someone has recommended me to use one side wheel hooked to the engine sprocket if I want to maintain the 1" diameter rod. But I prefer both wheels are spinning not single wheel. Therefore, I have decided to use 2" diameter rod.

Well, let's see how it progress later:D.

$$$$$$

Landuse, thanks:cheers2:. Sometimes I want to know the price of these stuffs at your place. I purposely quote the price as reference so that we know how much the estimated cost. It is good for others or new visitors to our thread. Now I know, it is almost the same price with what you may have to spend for the same stuffs.

From what I saw in this forum, people like us who like building things, may not be so keen at the cost of the materials. We have no choice, especially when the stuff cannot be made with our decent tools. We are more keen what to do which the stuffs we have purchased, isn't it? That's what I always do when I have or want to purchase things especially for my build.

I continued my work with my 2nd design this morning and I did not weld for quite some time thus I feel burn on my face from the spark.

I will attach the photo later.

This morning target was to sit the engine on the frame. The one that in red color. It is 6.5 horse power China made gasoline engine. This one has the modified centrifugal clutch which I have asked the machinist to fit with motorbike chain sprocket.

I realized that the base where I supposed to sit the engine was not in correct shape and wide enough. So I weld 2 pieces of metal as the base to sit the engine. Quite long did not touch the welding set, I feel burn on my face.

To ensure these 2 pieces of metal will not come off from continuous jerking, so I weld at the bottom as well.
