LOL!

Mini Update: Just lunchtime thoughts, reminder to self.

Kelly, stop looking for a front end for the tonkaRT. It's been sitting in font of you the whole time.

Use the Semi's body clip, chop a bit, narrow, paint yeller... make the TonkaRT and the semi/tow truck one thing.

yep.

Update:

Just take a little off the top please.

After dinner, I chopped the Semi's front end down to size. It was a little wide.

All in all, it looks even more like the K100 now, room for the feet at the sides, top wind jammer pushed forward, should work well.

I thought about using the Tonka bulldozer blade as the upper fin, but we'll see. I've got a place or knick-knacks on the dash of this thing behind the wind jammer thingy... probably use the bulldozer blade for a rear fin of sorts.

We'll see.

Ah, my buddy! To do that, I'd have to have my graphics tools with me, or the drive to sketch anything right now and sadly, I have neither.

Want an assignment?

Find me the TONKA font, for windows. That, or do up a graphic representation of Tonka R/T, on one line with R/T larger... by finding the letters in known images and splicing them together.

That's what I'm doing tomorrow at lunch... then addressing the lighting situation on this thing. Somehow, I've got to mix the K100 with the front end or something, from a Tonka.

uh.. I think I still have the Tonka R/T somewhere on my harddrive...
IIRC it was heavily scaled down when I posted it...

I think the base font was Clarendon extra-bold *shrugs* (everything except the bridged T-k that is)

Sorry Kelly... (strangely) I am with Sid on this one.
The tonka trucks always have a single cab, on the drivers left, above the engine, You know and 2 stacks on the left.

I am not seeing it.

Just wait for it... I remember you saying something about pulling this off a while back... it's a challenge.

I'll do it... just wait for it. It's hard to see through all this right now. (I guess that's why some dipsh!ts call me an artist)

Thanks for that. I am using the name you came up with for sure, what I had in mind was using the R and T in the same font, basic black, no outlined versions.

Exactly like your 2nd edition. Come on Alex, I know you're artistic.

And of course, with the 4 halves glassed back together, it doesn't look right, no matter how you slice it.

So, I concede... back to the drawing board. Still, drawing it was fun... just won't work for now, whatevs.

Semi is still on and the tonkart, back burner for now... on the hunt for just the right front piece to make it right.

We'll find it, just gotta wait. Some metal Tonka shaped thingy will come along I'm sure.

And now I'm stuck...

Mentally, as I envision these rides I look at three I have. Sarge, Wachtmeister and U51. They all have headlights of sorts... and all the same basic size.

Even the train works and I'm nowhere near done with it...

And here's this semi... and it's not to scale now. It looks, or will look, nice... but it doesn't go with the others.

Crap.

Bigger lights or trash the idea? Bigger lights kills the original look.

Why should it matter?

This, is the crap that goes on in my mind.

TonkaRT, same story.

Gimme a few days... we'll return.

Update:

Decided I'd figure out how to at least make the semi front clip work with different lights.

Sigh, maybe this will work. Buncha paint markers just to give a visual.

We'll see.

Take the top off & do a different grille... and it could be used as the short bus. Hm...

I know you don't want to hear that.. but I liked the semi lights..
perfect match to the cab IYAM..

and just because every other kart has approximately the same size pseudo lights... *shrugs*
I don't know.. I mean you don't want to slap such lights onto the baroness, do you?
So why the Semi.. I don't get it.

I see you're eager to do some more work;
but before you cut maybe sit back, have a BEvERage and maybe slowly stroll down the acres towards your magic shed;
put on the wizard hat and shuffle through all the dead toads and unicorn hooves;
I'm sure you'll find just what you need to spark an idea.

You're right.

Sometimes I get caught in the whirlwind in my head where things just have to match, or work, or something... but when I look back after some voice of reality has brought me back down to earth... I remember that when I'm outside building these things, the other whirlwind that is the true nature of artistic creation (for me) and the driving force behind it all.

Sometimes as I'm doing things I start overthinking it and that other side that says "It doesn't have to matter" takes over... and that's when it starts working.

I should take my own advice too, but nobody ever does.

True, I don't like to hear negativity, nobody does... but I'm ok with it and can learn from it.

The original setup stays, it's more narrow now and looks better. We'll work with that. Rusty wrecker truck.

Back to other things. Lots of little tinkering projects now to get the others moving. I said I'd have 4 runners this year, it's going to be 4 and that's the goal... with two others in progress. The train and the semi... unless some weird thing happens where a magical Tonka truck metal thingy just jumps out at me.

To find that... I'll have to take y'all on a trip with me. Out to the Utah desert where a very unique metal recycling place exists... I've seen airplane wings in this place... sold by the pound.

And if that's found, then the semi & the Tonka are gonna have to fight for a frame or something... cause I have one that works for both.

Thank you Sid.

Update:

Spent a good part of the day with my wife shopping around, thrift stores, food, garage sales, stuff like that. A great time.

Just as we're nearing the end of the trip I spot a shotty little yard sale an pick up 15 bucks worth of tires.

2 brand new 6" chens and two spare 6" things good for kart stands, etc. I think they're freerunner brand wheels, such a score.

After returning home we put the semi's front end back together, narrower but basically the same... and rusty primer to boot.

Should make quite the neat wrecker/truck/thing. Sure, it's not perfect... but it's not supposed to be. If it was, it wouldn't be a kart rod.

WHICH OF COURSE... gets me to thinking.

Wonder if I can smash two of the 6" treads between the 6" manco wheel halves I have. They are wider than the treads by an inch or so anyway.

The old trucks had these nifty old 6 spoke wheels... and the manco's have 6 spokes (special huh?)

Sorry TonkaR/T... we'll find another set of wheels for ya... vintage 5 spoke ones. (they exist, just gotta find some now)

Hm...

More possibly tomorrow.

Thanks for lookin.
