I'd thought about the front end treatment for a cattle guard but in one sketch I did, I may have the idea already. It's two little ones on the sides of the cab that round it out and take care of some strange dead space that's hanging out there.

I tend to have this cab forward mentality and, well, if you go through a driveway or anything major with this one (It's only an inch off the ground) the full sized guard on the front might just cave in.

So, it might be just two strange little ones on the side.

Dunno yet, I make it up as I go.

Groovy. I may try it but haven't yet had a need to. I just like finding crap that I can modify to work. The search is a lot of the fun... and the journey.

Correct, sketches & mock ups so far, the frame is real though. The trick with this one is to place that front tube in a place that seems right for the ride, AND, have a place for the feet.

Space gets weird on this one because of the frame's used. It's two skinny Manco's. Foot space is limited left & right so it might have to be up a small bit to allow for foot placement.

The coming weekend will tell.

Boring update:

At least something came in the mail today.

It seems that these stupid things have some goofy value too, it's amazing how much some folks want for them... but if you find the usable ones that are just "take offs" from old crap, you can get em for pretty cheap. It's fun to clean them up & make them functional again anyway. (How lame, getting excited to clean up a sediment bowl filter...)

We'll just call em character builders for the kart rods.

Overall, I'm pretty excited for the four that exist now and the weird journey it's been making them. Now, it's just tinkering and misc stuff to get them functional.

And we all know what that means, I'll start on the other four soon, one off them is in the works now (The Train). My overall goal was to have 8. The other 3 will most likely be the TonkaRT, Bonneville Spirit and end with the Semi.

So, 3 more frames need to be found for it all.

Yea, sure... then I'll probably back track and make 2 more. 10 is a nice round number. The Short bus... and... yes, the fallen Kart Rod #2 herself, Brown Thunder.

The search continues.

Do you still have those huuge pulleys you tried to use as brakes back on -what's that page 5?something- ?

If so, those need to be attached to the sides of the kart (proper train wheels)
a conrod to the rear wheels (plastic strips cut to size, some bearings maybe) so that they move without touching the ground of course;
and the six is an eight wheeler... with proper train-thingies....

only downside: you'll have to make some stub axles to fit them to the frame and you'll have rotating metal parts near your hip... which is maybe not the safest idea....
but I bet it'd look cool.

Have you considered Hand controls? Then your feet are just along for the ride.
I am picturing a tall brake handle/lever, not on the steering wheel. But like on a .... Train

Yes yes, very cool. I love it. Typically I just ramble on & on (as it is a build log) but some interaction is super. Never know where ideas will come from.

Now if we could just get someone else to build one of these themed things. That'd be swell too.

I've said it before, this isn't that hard.

Lunchtime update:

A little free time this morning so I typed up the spec sheets on each ride so far. They contain all the known (remembered) things I put into each one.

There's a few typos but who cares.
