Ah.. mindwiping pit babe, adding a more "Lara Croft"-esque type of character. checked!

Yes the forgotten place, desolation part I get,
I just cannot seem to find the connection to a windmill :(
But maybe that's just me.

Rattle snakes are too much of a predator to convey the "nothing's going on around here" idea :(
Back to the tumbleweed I guess ...

Now that I think of it,
I'd switch the shots of Steph running up the hill and the first UD appearance,
that way UD could rush past the scenery in a blink of an eye (affecting the tumbleweed/sign) connecting the scenes.
// a curling armadillo would be nice :D //

Excellent ideas, I'll toss em around. And yep, you envision the girl perfectly.

Update: (picture this as a narrative of perhaps an episode... I'm just goofing off)

Welcome again to KartRods. We hope your new year is going well.

Today I'm going to explore just where some of the parts come from on these nifty rides.

It's not that they're hard to find parts or anything, (well, a few are) it's just about where to look... and that's anywhere.

For starters, we're going to walk out to my back yard and open the shed. There's nothing special about it, it's just a normal shed with the usual items in it with one exception. In the days where I did a classic boating stint, I saved a few things here & there... Plus, there's other stuff in there too.

So, bundled up and protected... in we go. (honestly, I should have filmed this... but never fear, I'll do it again) This is truly shed diving because there's no order to anything here. It's all just been thrown in there over the last 10 years and it is truly an adventure.

And I don't exactly remember what's in there. I know there were 2 black widows last summer... which is why I'm bundled up and protected.

After an hour of moving things around and squeezing myself into some tight areas, I emerge with a handful of things. Just nick nacks really but they all have a purpose.

Trudging through the snow, I eventually end up with a nice icy path to explore and retrieve the items I'd tossed out in a pile. Once done, I close the shed and place the items on the carport floor to inspect & decide what to do with them.

The pictures are numbered so we'll start with 1.

Picture 1. What we're looking at here, is 2 halves of a 1957 Red Fish fiberglass boat fin, taped together. The tape has been there for 7 years and it's just been sitting in the shed. You can see my foot in the picture and I am size 11. This fin is the replacement for Moving Violations rear end. Sid said it, keep the rounded one for something else... and that's what gonna happen. It's got the 57'ish car front end, might as well have the fin too, right?

Picture 2. I remember having 2 headlight rings and I found the perfect one. This one has all it's mounting hardware & flanges so it'll be the one for the Baroness.

Picture 3. At one time, I had parts of a 1966 Bug. It was nearly free and I knew I could make a buck on it's Rag top which was in perfect & functional shape. When I was done making a few bucks, I stripped any other things I thought might be useful and got rid of the rest. Seen here, the kick-butt gas pedal. Old school as it gets, the roller pedal. I'm not sure where it'll go but I'm sure we'll find a nifty use for that. Plus, the other two can be used as well for an added "older look."

Picture 4. An old boat horn. It doesn't function at all... but don't you think that'd make a killer stack on a carb or something?

Picture 5. Some exhaust thingamajig from an old boat motor. Sarge's front piece is similar... not sure what to do with it yet, but I'm sure we'll find a use for it as well.

Picture 6. 2 Little old bow lights. You can still buy this model with one exception. The lights now-a-days are red & green. These baby's are red & blue. We'll go more into what we're doing & where they'll go in some other installment.

Picture 7. 2 side chrome trim pieces from a Johnson outboard motor, circa late 50's. Not sure where to put them, but they make great accents no matter how you slice it.

Picture 8. late 50's / early 60's McCullough outboard controls. I just liked the lever and the aluminum plate with the design, so I kept that. I'm sure we'll need a lever someday. (yea yea, hoarders say that... but I'm not... just my shed is)

Picture 9. The control set from a 1957 Mercury Outboard motor. (a.k.a. Dock-buster controls... why? Why was it called Dock Buster? It didn't have a normal reverse... you pulled the control back, killing the motor... and starting it with the push button on the control... in reverse. It took great skill to dock with this motor.) The 2nd gunners handle... for a certain airplane kartrod... and she wears red. Oh La la. (this complete set fetches big bucks on ebay... but that's not its fate today)

Thanks for watching, now for some cutting, etc to narrow down what we'll use in this mess.

Update: (same day, part 2)

With the steam of finding the pieces-parts that make these rides what they are, I went digging more into a box of stuff I'd put aside for the one boat I kept. Inside, a pair if roof handle/bow lights from a chris Craft. They'd just been in there and weren't going to be used for anything and I was wondering about the little light lenses inside.

You see, the old stuff had glass lenses built to outlast anything... and sure enough, there they were, the glass bulbs. One blue, one red. They clean up so nicely.

Better yet, they happen to fit nicely (perfectly) in a chrome stern light base cap I have... which has 2 screw mounts underneath. Sweet. If I find a round more skinny base I'll probably use that though. I'm not sold on the base just yet.

The small red light I wanted for Moving Violation... sleek, simple, shiny, and old. Plus, it'll cover that hole in the hood.

Now to rig a spinny mirror with a light inside. It's 1" dia inside. (probably just a slow on/of flasher of sorts though)

Thanks for watching, more soon... I'm sure.

Update: (3rd today)

As I mentioned in the last post, the light was the topic and if I found something better for the base I'd be using it.

While outside I had a thought. It had to be older looking, round and have a certain something to it.

... and here's what I came up with.

An unused, shiny with minor surface rust... gas cap.

Now it looks right.

Yup.

Thanks for watching. I might be done for the day...

... then again, I might not. I have a fin to design.

:kewlsmiley:

If you can spare the top of the tank that cap came from, you'll have the mounting for the cap; just cut out the tank inlet, with a flange around the base. Then you can literally just stick the mounting flange up thru the bottom of the mounting hole in the hood; stick the wires thru the open center, and screw the cap/ flange down snug. connect the wires, and you're done.

I hope that all made sense.......

Pat :cheers2:

Yup, good idea. I don't have the tank. I'll have to find something but we'll get there. Thanks

Well in that case make your own platform;
first use some playdough to fill in the cap's inside dents n bumps.. basically everything but the thread..
get some saran wrap inside the cap (or a good amount of grease)
and fill it with some epoxy putty and let it dry..

get it out the cap (should unscrew more or less easily thanks to the grease/wrap)
drill in holes for bolts and cables and you're done.

And with having it shut permanently, how to you change bulbs?

Or am I missing something?

'sid

Turn old bulb counterclockwise until free. Insert new bulb and turn clockwise. ..Jeesh- do I have to explain everything????:lolgoku:

Seriously- since there wasn't a light socket mentioned ( unless I missed it) I figured Kelly would make it replaceable from underneath if he wanted one.

Besides- what makes you think something Kelly builds is going to outlast a light bulb? :cornut: Sorry Kelly, I couldn't help myself, you can beat me up when you get here.

BTW-Sid that was a great idea you had. I was thinking about something today and that was the perfect solution. I've actually forgotten what- but when the time comes, I'll be implementing it.

Sigh... I want warmer weather back.

You and me both brother; I tried to get my car down to the end of my driveway so I might have a chance of getting to work in the morning; Didn't happen.

Three hours later, after a 3/4 of a mile hike two ways, down to my dad's to get the loader tractor and return it, the car is still sitting in the middle of the driveway; while I was using the "Power Shovel" we weren't getting snowflakes. Sub millimeter size sleet pellets.

Here's the irony; I'm actually hoping that it gets as cold as they predict. That way, all the little ice ball bearings that made my afternoon :censored: will start to freeze solid; when frozen that hard, it starts to resemble sand paper, which means I can get out....

:wai: Ditto on the warm weather. High here today -1, low tonite -15 Tues. high 5 low -3 and with 12" of snow on the ground. But things are looking up, after Wed. back to the 30's. then we have to worry about it flooding. Being retired I do not have to go anywhere so, I play like a bear and hibernate for a couple of days.
