Kelly, right about now, you're doing a great job of making me feel like the worlds biggest under achiever; if I have access to the right equipment and a set of prints, I know I can build some seriously crazy stuff. I also know (from bitter experience) that some of the stuff I've found to be cool, and taken the time to try and photograph it, has totally flopped when I've shown it to people who make their living as artists.....

Ah, the weekend arrives. I cut out of work early because, well, I just felt like it.

Update:

With some spare time, I figured I'd clean some stuff and take a little inventory.

Kart Racing is on in just under 3 months now and the weather will be warm enough to do stuff before I know it, so I thought I'd get a move on.

All the racing stuff is good and ready so a'sorting I go.

Anyone remember the A-10? Originally, it was a first rendition of what later became the Sarge... but I kept the rear wing templates.

And I think this will work well. Just put a mock minigun on the front of this where the headlight might go... and we'll just call this the A-10. Screw it.

Thanks... and to continue... the jet engines. Your idea man. small propane bottles inbetween the rear fins above the carb, double line to one, to the carb... then make them look like jet engines.

Then... the brakes. I think we'll try that v-belt/pulley idea.

With a semi-warm day (don't say nothin Brent...) it's not warm here by any stretch of the imagination...

Ahem, with the worst air I've seen in a long time lingering in this valley, I still managed to get some things done today. More sorting of parts, what's usable, what's not, etc.

With a small pile of parts I'd sat aside to either sell, or NOT use on a kart rod... I pulled out my vintage frame (which isn't a vintage racer anyway... it's just a fun kart) and decided to do something else. I've already taken the Jacobsen 321 for the minibike and the hands wheels for Sarge... so... let's make a thrasher/engine testing platform.

See pic 1. That black thing. Some asuza wheels, crappy axle and sprocket carrier and we have a roller. Perfect fer engine a-testin.


Next up, while I was going through things I passed by the laundry area. In a box, up on a shelf, was something I'd put there long ago. One Headlight ring from a 1957 GMC Truck.

I'd been looking for just the right treatment for the Baroness' front end and I think this will do the trick. Flip it upside down... and...


Pics below. You gotta picture the piece a little lower for the feet to fit so the bumper (or part of it) is gonna go... and I don't use a cutoff wheel in my house.

Now for a center piece that looks like a turbine fan, and a cone... and something else. Stay tuned.

For those watching and didn't catch this creation many pages back... it's a Manco 2 Seater. This crap is on the left side, where the driver sits. On the right will be the (can you guess?)

This is gonna be neat looking.

Edit, I've attached one of the mockups from a while back... not bad I think.

Originally this idea was headed towards having a wankel motor on it but I think it'll be better off with something else... TWO something else's that is. 2 motors. It's wider than her sisters and has the room.

... and I must stick to my original vision. 5 to 6.5 HP 4 stroke engines only.

If I ever have the "Free Time" to invest in anything like "Artistic Training", do you have any recommendations for us factory rats? This wandering in the dessert is really unpleasant....

Update:

Sunday morning, coffee & cold weather won't stop me. I can whip together all the little pieces & parts inside.

With the sorting of parts continuing, I figured I'd better keep going because the Baroness needs this front end. I mean, she NEEDS this front end to be right.

I'm in my work room and scrounging around for something that could resemble the turbine fan and cone for this and sitting in the back was the plastic fan from clone I'd of course, never use. I painted it up then began looking for just the right nose cone.

Lots of thoughts here on what to use but I'm going for light weight stuff so it doesn't fall apart, yet rugged enough to handle the vibrations.

The cone is important for this front end because without it, it doesn't come together.

I'm tearing through the "holiday" closet looking for one of those Easter Eggs. Flexible, light, should do the trick. In my mind, I still haven't figured out how to mount it to the fan and show NO bolts. It's gotta be smooth.

Finding NO easter eggs, I then found what would work. The round plastic cap from a can of water proofing crap. Very flexible and doesn't crack when you squeeze it... plus it has an inner ring I could make an attachment for allowing me to mount it... bolts unseen.

Held up by a few legos for alignment and a picture... here's what I came up with.

Kind of reminds me of the front end of the ship from the movie "the core."

Looks nice, but may I suggest a computer fan;
I don't know the diameter you're after but they can be had in almost any diameter, and some even look like turbines..
