LOL! Yea, that whole cab-forward thing tends to throw people off...

... but if you look back to a time when a certain race kart (and uber-collectible today) was showing everyone how it was done... you'll find the Evans SPL. My rides tend to follow this set up.. because it works pretty well.

:)

Whoa. That is a Kart Rod. Who knew I just thought you were weird! :lolgoku:

What wheels are on that kart? Do you own a set?

Yessir, those are Hands Wheels. Sarge has a set of them. Find em on ebay and you'll toss 5 benjamins just to get em...in questionable shape.

That kart, was "The" gnarliest ride in its day. It dominated early kart racing and is highly treasured in the vintage realm. So treasured, even owners of known ones WILL NOT measure them and give specs to recreate one. I tried, 3 times.

And...

Update: Yea, I'm going with the OD green. Sarge needs a partner and it just works for me. They're different enough that it'll work. This one though, is 50LBS lighter than Sarge... and will fly.

Thanks for looking.

Speaking of Junk... I swear Sarge is in love.

...and with some of the items seen here... means something happened to the baroness. See update post 2.

Welcome to update 2 of 2:

Sid, this one's for you. Publicly, I admit, the Baroness simply MUST have twins. You win.

Yep.

Which means I now have to re-think the whole chain situation... again. Probably a jackshaft for this one.

And a few other pics.

Scoop on the baroness is just sitting on top for now. It won't be the final one but something will be there to tie these two engines together along with the intakes... making them look like one long engine and rounding it out.

Sunday update:

I had to know...

A pair of bearing hangers gave their lives today to help with the proof of concept steering job for the train... a.k.a. Loco.

Nevermind all the shotty tack-welds... It works. Happy day.

Now for a whole lot of aligning. (All the tires are flat, it's not aligned at all... but it works)

Next up with this one: Find some suitable angle iron just small enough but thick enough to build the frame of the rear cab...

Yup.

Thanks for a lookin.

Final update of the day:

Great weekend...

To those following, you knew it would have been rough to make the Tonka R/T.

Its problem is simple, the parts are simply disproportionate to the size of a go kart.

I'd rolled it around & around for a long time but it just won't work...

But this will.

MUA HA HA HA HA.

(just substitute a black frame for that orange thing... and a few mods on the rear...)

Thanks for lookin.

Care to name it now Sid?

Just saw these updates, so I may be a little late.
1) congrats on the daughter's racing
2) great work on the various projects
3) the dual steering front wheels is very interesting
4) Wachtmeister... Make a run to Home Depot, the spray paint isle. They started carrying a "Self-Etching" primer, Rustoleum iirc. It's a cool color, not like your typical primers (provides better protection too.) it is a bit darker in shade, sort of like a cross between gray and olive drab with a hint of brown thrown in. Actually looks really good. I used it for the framing of my welding table I built.

Legs and frame in self-etching primer:

I think you shopuld try a yellow frame first maybe two tone,
especially the fork should be yellow I guess (with black springs).

Nope.. until he painted Wachtmeister green (I hate that!)
But since Kelly is a friend, he made up for it two posts later by adding twins to the baroness :D

Anywhoo..
Naming.. Personally I'd say TonkRad (not much different from TonKart [capitalisation for legibility]) and being german Rad has a meaning basically means wheel but is the most common abbreviation for bike (Fahrrad) as well. even more.. Krad was used as the official abbreviation for motorcycles (Kraftrad) so yeah.. if it were a german build, that'd be an easy one :D
it may end up being rad.. so it could still fit ;)
And because it fits nicely in german it's hard to let it go and find an english approach...
need to think about it.

Nah!

Black & yellow, all the way!

I could leave the frame but it seems clunky in a way... and that just wouldn't be right.

Not for this one.

1st pic, photoshopped frame black.

We'll go a modern route with this one for now. After a little more photoshoppin... we get this little beast. I'll probably put the tank under the seat and leave the dump bed for a glove box of sorts.

Pushing on...

Dinner, dishes, load of laundry in...

Go cut the back off this thing and hit it with flat black for a bit.

I can't figure out just what to do with the dozer's blade... seen in the last pic is an idea. Use it go compliment the dozers rear end, on its side and split, attached to the bed as a mock air scoop?

I dunno.

She's a cute one though.

Don't mind all the stuff that doesn't make sense as things are just sitting/teetering on things so I could visualize it.

Thanks for a'lookin!

So Glad you mentioned the Blade. I was already thinking. Front fender. I see you have a Truck Cab up there but there is a truck cab on the Dump bed.
Rather than double truck cab. Do you have the Dozer cab? (I know its not much) but I would put it center of the forks with the blade as the fender.

You have the parts so I dont know Proportionally, but that is my idea. For what its worth.
