Update:

On the little lists I make at work of "to do" when I get home, more of the same. The little things that make them what they are.

Up tonight, cut the other trim pieces, file, sand... SOS pad! Shiny.

Drill drill drill, pop rivet.

The shiny parts are making this one I tell ya.

And as seen in these pics, the trick to making it look old... patina, whatever... paint first, assemble, work on it and modify it... never paint it again. (well, maybe a touch up or two) but if they look used, the more authentic charm they have.

On a side note, this one will not be sporting those 12x6x6 rear wheels. It'll have the 4.10x3.50x6 slicks. Tall & mean.

Just wait until you see the tripple air filter I've got in mind to round out the rear end of this one.

That kick board is awesome,
looks great on the Semi, and it lloks as great on Unit 51...
but that light... IDK as a tank cap as you said a few posts back I think I'd like it.

on the wide snout it seemed like a great idea.. now on that narrow nose it only attracts the view to that sheet metal strip, which frankly is the only visible flaw IMHO.

Then again, if you'd do what I think you wouldn't like to do
(i.e. grind down, weld in nicely, grind welds, then repaint...)
then it'd be back to awesome I guess

BTW Any news on the Tonka/RT?
I think the 'new' Azusa Hex Star you got might look well on her too *shrugs*

Just wait on that sheet metal strip (which is what used to be a gas tank... it screws on there) We'l get it on there right, it's just sitting there for now.

The Tonka R/T. In a possible deal with my counterpart here, we're teaming up on a possible deal here. If it comes through, a suitable frame will be here for it.

Hex (meaning the wheels I got, and star... the tri star counterpart)

From what I've been told by some of my vintage nut-friends... they are in fact wheels made by Precision. They do match the Tri-star azusa pattern.

I could be wrong though. I'm just a messenger here.

It notes only front wheels for "hex star" which might be these, but then again, I"ve seen these wheels with a live axle configuration too which could mean something else.

I dunno. I had a set a while back and one of the vintage guys paid me 100 bucks for just one of them though.

I can't tell either... not for sure that is..

I've seen them called Azusa Hex Star on OMB several times, and I thought that's the proper name.

There have been more companies making a wheel of that design;
I recall at least three or four ever so slightly different wheels like that,
with bumps on the spokes edge or without, 5" or 6"; six bolts or three...
IIRC Azusa was the only one casting small rings on all six spokes as a drilling guide or something
But I could be wrong of course...

Update:

Cruising the local classifieds has turned up a 60 dollar deal. Made the deal at 8AM via Text messaging.

We're picking this up on Saturday. Nothing like some spare manco wheels, parts, etc. (it all works out... the spare pedal is the missing piece for the Baroness steering wheel... he he!)

Maybe this frame could work for something too. Go live axle, lop off the rear end, use it as a trailer for SARGE!

Update:

Nice guy that one was. Super communication, got to eat lunch in a nearby town in a nice setting, and 60 bucks is worth it. The nice drive there and back was just peaceful and a nice time with the wife too.

Poor thing, just about had a life of sitting in that back yard but it's all better now.

Good score really, it's relatively unmolested and darn near original. Just missing the band brake, sprocket carrier & one pedal.

Of the manco wheel halves, one has a giant chip but the other 3 halves are just super. The front wheels are these 4" steel things I've seen before and could be useful as well.

Wonder what I'll make out of this. Hm.

Yea, we'll see about fixing that. There's a big crack too, this one might be toast.

Update:

3 cutoff wheels and a whole lotta tack welding later...

A slammed Manco single seater using nothing but what it came with... and 2 extra bars that is. Wonder what to make of this one really. It doesn't fit any theme I've come up with yet... perhaps a different theme here, and a completely new ride?

I dunno yet, writers block right now.

But, it is the epitome of the kart rod. Slammed down front end, low profile, stretched a bit and solid. This one was simple really as it's just the single seat version of the baroness, same frame, same treatment.

Nothing to report other than that really. I'm sure I'll come up with something.

Anyone want to throw some "THEME" ideas out there? I'm fresh out for a minute.

Is there any particular reason you rocked the steering shaft angle so far forward??? And are you worried about Ackerman in the front end with the steering arms pointing forward??? I know that its the way it left the factory, its just that you have a reputation for correcting such issues.....

Today was just one of those strange days in the carport o'creation I tell ya.

This manco frame I whipped up seemed to have just a certain "possibility" factor to it.

Into the shed of witchery... to find the forgotten 4's parts.

One frame, 4 different rides? Hm...

Plus, with winter about to set in, I need something to work on... like little "body kits" for this one frame.

Pretty nifty really, each has it's own wheels & all.

The tonka R/T will happen, but it will have to have just the right frame, so the search continues until it's found.
