Jim, forgive me. I know you also like trikes, and I suspect you might enjoy a little drifting, so I found this one for you. And this time I included the source in the photo's title.

I have seen this thing before on a karting complex's Facebook page. I have a kz750 twin needing something done with !

And Jim make it snappy I need someone to cruise with. Haha. Wish you were a little closer.

Like the adjustable suspension a lot. Also the use of a bushing on the bolts. You're looking mighty perplexed there, Jim. I know that feeling.

You need to fix this one.....

Going left to right, by rows, top left of photo #4. Zoom in closely on the upper LH corner of the pic; you've got a major contamination blow out right on the bottom of the outside radius of the swing arm, right where it can do you the most harm.

That one isn't one you can just weld over and forget: it needs to be ground out/down to clean metal first. I learned that the hard way in the classroom, where the only injury was my pride. I don't want you to learn it the hard way out in the real world......:surrender: :ack2:

You SCARED me, Pat! I had to go out and look.... It's a camera trick.... I haven't welded that yet. It's looking like a hole in guess, from the welding of the sides. I guess it got sooty, dirty, ect.... Those bottom plates have only been tacked in place.
Good eye though! My welding skills are like my good moods..... Some times I got it, some times I don't..... :lolgoku:
I'll post some good looking welds, and some bird crap, tomorrow..... I got maybe 70% decent looking welds, 20% bird crap, and 10% that look so good, I'm not sure I did it..... :lolgoku:

Here is that same spot, after a wire brush cleaning..... Notice, one pic looks as if there is a hole... Next pic shows its not a hole....

How can anybody not love a forum where someone zooms into a merely boring image just to keep someone else safe?

See.. impossible :D  Pat for seeing it.

Oh and Jim.. going well it seems :D
But "family friendly" and such.. no cigarettes next time :lolgoku:

I really hope that you and I are looking at the same problem point; that way I know you're on top of it......:surrender: :surrender:

Keep us in the loop: I freely admit that I'm never going to be the best welder in the world. Its just that I've had to butt head's with :censored: who claimed they were the be all/end all source of all knowledge on it that haven't got a clue.......

EDIT; Alex beat me on posting (why do all these UBER computer savie type's have such fast typing skills!?!?!?!?!). Jim, at least you're aware of what I saw... Please stay safe....

Pat, am I not talking about the same spot? The radius of the tube, where the plates are welded on? I only see one spot that looks like a blow out. It's not though. The only blow out I had was at the right rear corner of swing arm, at the top. Had to grind it all away, then start over, slowly......
I am pretty sure that was the only blow out I had on here. Last thing I need is a weak spot in the chassis..... If I ain't looking at what you're looking at, please circle it or something..... I'm not going any further, till I understand what you are talking about.
I did however, mount my bearings and axle , last night..... GRRRRRRRR I can't wait to ride..... If I could get the front wheels/tires this week, it will be a rolling chassis by this time next week.....

It looks like you're correct; after cleaning it, and a better camera angle it's not there. Are you running flux core? If so, then what I thought I saw may have just been slag that you hadn't cleaned yet. Sorry about the scare.... :surrender: :surrender:

Yep,switched back to Lincoln wire though. Still the best wire. Better welds, less slag.....

Ok, can't really do anymore to the back till I get some darn tires. These are only 16" tall.... I'm gonna be using 18" tall tires..... But the back half is a roller.... Kinda....

'sup Sam!? ! Long time! Good to hear from ya! I know you look in from time to time.... I appreciate that!
Last night I cut, bent and welded up the nose piece for the chassis. Today, I'll mark, cut, and weld it in to place. Then I'm going to start looking at how I'm going to finish up the rest of the front half of the chassis.
I still need to fill in the gap between the body and chassis. A real chassis started out as 6" high, then tapers down to 2&5/8" wide, wich transfers into a bend ending at 2 &1/8" ....
I used 2" material for the chassis. The part you can see, will be made to look as if it's like an original. In the front wheel wells, there is a gap that will get filled in with 3" material, then tapered back to 2".... Or something like that..... I'll see what I can come up with today.....
Ever since I gave the Homedepot manager a "Jimmy special " , (coworkers gave it a name cuz its more than just a tongue lashing. I go all out..... Hold nothing back..... LoL )they have started keeping the metal supply stocked. Not only stocked, but now they carry a bigger variety of high priced steel.
1" square tube, 16 gauge, 6 foot long... Homedepot has it for like $15.... Standard Steel Supply sells a 24 foot stick for $18 + tax is $21 out the door..... :censored::censored:
Going back to get some tube.... I'm gonna build a trike next, with all the spare parts I have. I only need tubing...... Got everything else, engine too.....

Same problem here.... Sometimes I can con my wife into picking up supplies, but she doesn't know how to use the ratchet straps that great, and doesn't like driving with the tubing on top of the Tahoe. "its scary"...... whatever.....
I'm gonna have to break down and make a lunch time run this week, I guess. My boss will let me take a little extra time.... I need some 2" round tube to make my front beam. I'm kinda leaning towards a piece of 2" I beam..... Gonna go to the shop and look around at what kinda material we have laying around.... I think I saw some 2" i beam.... Swiss cheese it (in the center section, under the chassis), and paint it silver..... Then make some faux radius rods..... Yeah, I'm liking that idea more and more.
I know I won't be completely finished by New Years, but it will be a running, driving, stopping kart. I know I won't have time to paint it all, but that's not mandatory. It will be "finished" in short time though. I want to sit back and enjoy it already. Can't wait for the first car show I take it to. And the race track, to run through the traps and see how fast it really is..... :stir: so I know what to do to get more..... :stir::thumbsup:

Well, just ordered thev5/8"x5/8"-18 rods ends, they will be here Friday or Saturday. My wife bought me the front wheels for Christmas, they will be here Friday, supposedly, but BMI has screwed me over before so I'm not counting on that..... Got tires for the front. Found 1.75" x.125" round tube to make my front beam.
I need to make a seat at least. Get back wheels/tires. Man , too much...... I should started when everyone else did. 3 months might not have been quite long enough..... I'll get it done though, even if it kills me....
Another 3 day weekend this week. Then work a week and then take off for the rest of Christmas! I got some time yet..... It's getting the parts that's been a drag. But if I was rich, this wouldn't be as fun to build..... :cheers2:
You'd be surprised at how much CASH money I have spent.... Not very much. I scavenged most of this stuff, or got it REAL cheap.....

I wanted dual exhaust..... So I'm making a Y header, that will feed 1" tube, and exit in front of each back tire....:2guns:
Maybe I can get it to shoot flames.... :lolgoku:
Yes, I know the welding looks like , well, not so much welding as it does bird poop.... Its hard to weld .025" tube with a HF mig..... I'm gonna clean it up before it gets dipped in phosphate. Gonna dip the whole exhaust. If my boss will let me, I'm gonna dip my whole chassis, before painting..... Guaranteed not to rust......

I hope Santana brings me a new electronic gizmo this year. The camera won't work now, (thanks, kids.... :censored:), and my screen has 4 BIG cracks in it, again.... (thank you....)
I got my spindle barrels drill and tapped for 5/8"x18tpi. Got my "beam". Cutting up the spindle brackets plates, hopefully tomorrow. Still waiting on the front wheels..... :toetap05::toetap05::toetap05:
(thanks BMI, for being SO slow to ship..... :censored: .....)
I found some wheels and tires for the back. Brand new, 2 for $50! GOT to get them.... Gonna get my brother to go pick them up for me, since it's down the street from him, but 30 minutes for me.... I see him at work every day..... :lolgoku:
Calling it a night.... With no camera at the moment..... :useless::rolleyes:

Got the hiem ends today..... Got all excited to work on the kart tonight... Got home, went out back to get the bike, so I could pull off the wire harness. Finally get it up to the light by the back patio doors, just to see that the dogs beat me to it..... :censored:
Starting to bum me out..... That's great.... Another item to wait on in the mail..... :censored::censored:
