Not really, been wasting a lot of time, just staring at it..... Been in a funk, here lately. I think I have shaken it.
Last night, I got in a package with the rear bearings, and the front hubs and axles. I have found a little motivation, through the help of some friends.
Tonight, I will weld up the upper hoop for the cage. Then I'm going to cut the 4 corner down legs and hopefully get it all tacked up. If possible, I'll cut the front runners as well, and tack them in place too. Sounds like a lot, but it's really not...... I'll post pics of the parts that came in, after work.....

Got pics? I halfassed put the complete hub and spindle together, so you have a better idea of what I'm working with and it's size.....
I have revised my plan for the spindle barrel. Was gonna load it with bearings, but there is no need realtor, because it will pivot on the heim ends.....

More pics..... Finally getting something done.... The 2 pics where you can see the body, is so you can see the tubes are hidden pretty good. They fit inside the body channel perfectly. I still need to put in the tubes in the rear, for the upper shock mount/ cage brace going to the engine cradle. The front will get more down legs put in, but I have to start on the front end though, before I can do anything along those lines.....
Everything is just tacked in place. I'm actually excited to be working on it! It's been a while for that..... I got my motivational push I needed to get er done. O, and a 4 day weekend next week too!O yeah, I'm switching gears into 3rd now. By the time I hit 5th gear, I'll be making final adjustments and topping off the fluids. So I can take its first ride.....
Next order of business is to get some wheels. I keep missing out on great deals on golf cart wheels and tires. My tahoe is still screwed up and the second one we just bought, blew the trans in just 3 weeks.... GRRRRRRRR
I need 2 golf cart wheels for the back, that are 8x8, and have 18-8.5" or 18.5-9.5" tires,with a 4 on 4" bolt circle. If you got a couple you could let go pretty cheap, PLEASE let me know......
I'm fixing to put my personal kart up for sale, and use the bread to buy the front wheels and tires. That way I can start on the front. I got to get all the parts together, before I can start.....

Ok, the first pic is the approximate location of the rear shocks.

3rd pic.... Well, this is one of the ugly welds.... Not afraid to show the bad with the good...
The next four pics are just profile shots.
The last one is how it's sits inside the garage at the moment. It has a set of 16" off road wheels/tires under it right now. If I don't can't grab a cheap set of golf cart wheels, these are gonna have to work..... LoL
Gonna try to get some 2"x.125 to start on the front axle, this week. I might switch to 1&3/4" x .125 round tube (not steel pipe ), in case I have to bend it for proper spindle height. We will see. I came up with the template for the spindle brackets, now just need to get some 3/8" plate to cut them out out. Then drill and tap for 5/8x18 in two spots.....
Getting closer..... Closer to being a roller.... And to the deadline........

Started to do final welding on the chassis, just to run out of wire as I got into a "groove" and getting something done..... GRRRRRRRR

Just realized I ONLY have 5 weeks left.
I sure hope I get this done. It won't be a time thing, but most people's problem...... Money. I still have a small list of stuff I need to buy. Mainly the front wheels and tires and rear wheels and tires. It only comes out to just over $100, but right now, that's a lot.... Past couple months have been kinda rough, despite having karts and dirt bikes to work on over the weekends....
This week's goal is to procure some material for the front axle beam, either 2" square or 1.750" round tube, thick wall (.125")....... And cut out some spindle brackets from 3/8" plate. I guess this one won't have springs in the front, as I had planned. Not sure yet. I don't think the actual suspension I get from it will be worth the hassle. It would look cool though.
I should have just started this when the contest originally opened. O well..... It will be done, one way or another...... I don't quit..........

Getting the holes milled into the spindle barrels to accept the spindles. The mill guy was already set up for it, so I "slid" them into the production line. He is doing them , now..... I love working in a machine shop.....

Advise needed

I was going to buy some round tube to make the front axle beam. I still have some 2x1x.09 (i think... It's either .09" or .100")
The beam will only extend beyond the frame, about 3"-4"..... And would tie in nicely with the rest of the main chassis. Would that be strong enough ya think, to use as the axle beam? I would add faux radius rods with batwings on the beam.

Side note... Got the spindle barrels back..... He drilled all the way through them, instead of 1"deep, like stated on the print I provided......
I'll make it work........

Re: rectangular tube
Assuming this build will be pavement only and never banged into a curb, what you have will probably be ok, but the answer kinda depends on the steel, Jim. Is it seamless, or is it welded tube? (Look inside it). Is it 1018 or 4130-4140? Tube is generally softer steel, so that it can be formed into the tube shape, but if it's hot formed it may add stiffness. In spite of international standards, some steel of a given specification and made "somewhere else" may yield before the same spec steel made in North America, Germany, or England.

Having the hole all the way through, actually doesn't hurt anything.... Actually beneficial, during the front end mock up.... The axles are at 80* , and the ends are staggered in a 10* plane, giving me 10* caster and camber. The camber is adjustable..... Well, will be......
Tomorrow, I'll cut these apart, and hopefully face off each end to length, and drill and tap each end for 5/8"-18..... I got a 4 day weekend. I plan on getting good a lot done.....

Yes, it's heavy. Heavy duty too..... If I'm gonna be doing 60mph, the LAST thing I want to break is a spindle. If 5/8" grade 8 bolts are good enough for a sand rail, it's gotta be safe for this....
I don't want this beast to roll over and scratch its back.....

Ha ha! No doubt a collision would be bad, but with four large carb venturies so close, it looks to me like you'd want to be careful about going WOT too quickly!

With the size of the intakes, I don't think ANYTHING is safe, hitting WOT...... Looks like it'd sucks the shirt right off your back.....

Cut the barrel blanks out today, but it was a busy day, so that is all I got done. Going back to work, after dinner, so I can machine these parts in peace. I'll post pics tonight.
I still need the wheels and tires all around. I found the fronts on sale, well, I can get 2 for the price of one.... Told my wife, and she ignored me. I think she is gonna buy them to surprise me. Little does she know, I'm pulling the trigger on them Friday..... I can't wait till Christmas. I need them NOW..... Gotta have the wheels to mock up the front beam.....
I still need to do the front beam and steering components.
Mount the rear axle, after installing crush tubes.
Build an interior including seat.
Get interior "did".....
Wiring
Lights
Brakes
Install trunk lid, with a powered lift
Oh, and most importantly, make sure the engine runs.....
I still need chain,rear sprocket and hub.
Body work.... Need to fix the spot the trucking company foxed up....
And then throw some paint at it and hope it sticks in a relatively nice looking fashion.....
