If I only can come up with 6" between center line of output shaft and axle..... :censored::censored::censored: MAYBE with the pillow blocks on the bottom, I'll gain an inch or so, but CRAP! Now what? The drive sprocket is 2.625" in diameter. So 4.5" diameter is about the biggest sprocket I can currently run.
You can still try and find a smaller drive sprocket, it'll be difficult, but not impossible,
they're out there from IIRC 12-21T or something for nearly any engine ever made.
let me know spline count and diameter please.

#2 I can only run a sprocket that size. Ok, well what size sprocket do I want anyway? This is where I could use the help of you smart types (SID...... ) ...... The bike the engine came off of had 24" tall tires. I don't know the tooth count for driven but the drive is 15 and the bike had a claimed top speed of 70 or 75 mph (can't remember, but it's 17.8hp @8000rpm'?') Going from a 2' tire to only 16" , means a gear ratio change if I wanted the same performance. Will I need to go up in driven tooth count? Or down? I think I can get 13-14-16 tooth drivers as well. What's really gonna be my best option?

I don't know what type of engine it is, so I have no idea about it's internal ratios..
but let's see 8k rpm 70-75 mph.. that'd be 8:1 overall reduction for 24" wheels;
primary reduction is most likely in the realms of 1.9-2.5:1 so in fifth (close to 1:1 most likely)
the chain ratio will end up around 4:1 in worst case...
Now the good news.. if you reduce the wheel size you can reduce the sprocket to get the same speeds.
by the same ratio; 24" to 16" means 60T to 40T for a 15T driver.. that's still more like 6.5" in diameter
(2.67:1 chain ratio)
But if a 13 driver is available a 26 axle sprocket will most likely fit,
it's just a 2:1 ratio and although that's far from being ideal.. it might still work;
you have a wetclutch and that'll reduce the abuse a bit..
Ideally you'd want a 11T driver sprocket and a 30T axle (2.7:1 because of the weight ;))
(that is if my assumptions on the internal ratios of the engine are correct)

Well, my wife measured the sprocket on the bike for me today, and says it's almost 8". So I'm gonna say the #'s are 15 driver 48 driven, on a 2' tire. The to speed was 70mph and the engine specs say 17.8hp@8000rpm.
I'm thinking I can drop to 38-40 tooth driven with no adverse effects and those fit inside my parameters...... :thumbsup:
For the rod end dilemma, Tom, you were right, and it was the obvious answer. I looked at tapered bearings last night but couldn't find a .625" ID. So, how about machine a tube to hold 3 standard high speed sealed bearings (the front wheel type) and weld that to the swingarm. Should be rigid enough,and still swivel good..... :thumbsup:

Nice work fireman. I dont know how you have the patient to wait all day at work and not work on it.

I don't, that's why I make some parts while I'm here..... :lolgoku::thumbsup:
This place has everything I need except a plasma gun..... It's nice to have lathes (both manual and CNC ) at your disposal to build things..... And mills,saws,ect.....

Ok, so tonight, I went back to work after dinner. I went in to make the bearing cups for the swingarm. My camera is broke on my tablet,and I'm patiently waiting for my wife to get off the phone..... :toetap05::toetap05::toetap05:
Anyway, the bearing cups will get welded into a 1.750" hole, drilled offset, just like the pivot tube welded into the engine frame. This keeps the tube level, for better looks. I could have / should have done things a little different, but it is what it is, and at the end of the day, I'm that much closer to being done.
I'll add pics to this before I go to bed..... :cheers2:

OK Sam, here is a small update, just for you..... Lol
I'm currently waiting for parts to arrive. On order,is 2 high speed front hubs with 4 on 4 bolt pattern, 2 1" spindle axles, 2 rear hubs with 4on4, 2 pillow block bearings, and a couple other small things I can't remember. Should arrive mid next week... :wai:
In the pics.....
The bearing cups I made , to hold 2 standard high speed sealed bearings each. They get welded into the swingarm, offset, just like the pivot tubes in the frame. I have reasons for this,should be evident at a later point. The swing arm is a mere 13" long with the sprocket centered 8" center to center with the crank. Yeah,kinda short, but it will work..... Should have proper contact by chain,on the sprockets, if my math was right. We will see.... :popcorn:
I'll post more tomorrow, after I get the holes cut into these tubes,before and after I weld in the bearing cups.... :thumbsup::cheers2:

I bought some tanks,one will be a fuel cell in the '32, and I will probably sell 3 of them, if any one is interested. They will hold an ounce or 2 ,over a gallon. 4" in diameter and about 20" long.... These are heavy duty steel tanks.
One pic is a tank,of course. One pic is the '32 with some 16" tall tires with the axle, set in place for measurements....
The last pic is my baby boy. He is finally sitting in his "TV dinner chair" , eating his veggies and watching TV...... LoL this pic was just for giggles. I tried to get him to smile, but he is all business when its time to eat and or watch TV..... :thumbsup:

You're :welcome2: ,Sam. I'll be posting more pics tomorrow and the for the next couple days. Gonna try and finish the swing arm this weekend, so I will be that much ahead, when the new parts come in. Should be fairly simple, I even have a new hunk of 1/2" plate to use as a welding table. I'll post a pic of that too. It's shape will benefit me when building the swing arms. You'll see what I mean tomorrow, when everything is clamped up for welding.....:thumbsup:
Now to get a bigger piece..... I brought this plate home, from work. I think we have another, bigger, piece, about 4'x4'... :2guns: that would be almost perfect. :2guns:. Got to look into that.... My boss/the owner/uncle, is pretty cool.... Let me have the plate, and other odd bits of steel. He knows I use his equipment to machine/build go kart parts.... LoL he don't care..... :thumbsup::wai: He let's me use his shop as a playground, to act out my ideas..... (except he don't like the cannons. They scare him.. LoL )

Ok, let's see.....
This morning I got up and went to home depot to buy a new hole saw and Arbor. I got a Milwaukee, that has "special" cryogenicaly hardened teeth. :)lolgoku:) Well, it cut through the tubing like a hot knife through butter..... $16 well spent..... I've been waiting for the mill guy to cut the holes for me, or leave the mill open so I could do it myself at night. Well, I waited a week, and nothing..... So I just did it at home with a hand drill. Came out great.
After I cut my holes, I put everything into the welding jig I made last night. I knocked everything around till it was ready to weld, then started melting metal..... I did the frame first , then added a 3/4" square tube to act as a brace. I made sure to leave room for the drive sprocket and driven..... BUT forgot about the engine mount/frame..... Brace was 5/8" too close to the pivot.... I had to cut that back out, then I welded in the round tube, as it was the last piece of material I had that I could cut to fit.
Next I welded up the bearing cups, with a 3/4" axle running through mounted 3/4" bearings, to ensure it all stayed "square" while welding..... I welded it up, after letting it heat up in front of a space heater. It was too hot to hold bare handed, should be enough to get a good bite into the thick cup wall.....
I smoothed over the welds a little (I'm not the best welder..... ) and cleaned up the corners. I had to remove engine to mount the rear end. I need to make some custom spacers for the pivots. I put the engine back in, to see what it looks like, and for you guys to see.... And the body too.....
All in all, I'm making decent progress I reckon. I know I'll have a completed kart (according to the rules) by the deadline, but it may take a week or two into the new year, to finish up the interior, like door panels and functional dash with gauges.... I have taken the last 2 weeks of the year off. I have that time, to put the mad dash completion checklist into effect,and carry it out..... I got this..... :thumbsup::wai::wai:
Now I just got to wait for the parts to come in that the dog cage guy was supposed to order Friday..... I'll be :censored: If he hasn't done kt yet..... He wanted me to hurry and finish the cage. Well,now I want my payment in a hurry..... That's fair, isn't it?.....
We will see what happens.....

I'm not sure if you can tell or not by the pic, but the bearing cups is intentionally 1/8" proud of the tube. This is what creates the clearance needed to ensure no contact between the swingarm and engine cradle...... I will make stepped spacers to fill in the 3/8" gaps on both sides.
I'm really surprised that this came out as good as it did. Today was productive for me, but also $$$ breaking too. I let my dogs stay in the garage last night cause it was kinda chilly outside. This morning, when I went to put them out, I noticed the racing cdi box I recently purchased and installed on my 4 wheeler, out in the yard! Dam dogs..... I went to go see what else they ate of of it.... I get to the bike I pulled this engine off of, and they ate uo in that too.... Not only the bike.... Not only the bike and 4 wheeler...... BUT the bike, 4 wheeler, and the exterior wall to the house!!! :censored: We are only RENTING this house! They chewed uo the wires to the a/c and all the insulation. It's going to cost at LEAST a $1000 to repair all the damage these 2 knuckle heads have done. Landlord only knows about Roscoe, and hasnt asked about the pet deposit, other than the first time. We haven't paid it..... Now we got 2...... That's $500 deposit, each...... :censored:
I know what you're thinking...... Now I need to make a huge dog kennel for me.......Errrr, the dogs...... :lolgoku:
I'm fixing to cut them both a 15-18' chain each. Then chain them to the middle of the back yard, so they can't reach anything to chew on.......
Try to be nice and this is how they repay me...... I know I'm not doing any cooking for them for the next few weeks. They can eat dog food. It won't kill em......and they are staying outside from now on too. I caught Roscoe taking a bite into a plugged in extension cord. He is lucky he ONLY bit into one wire. 2, and he would have been toast...... :censored::oops:
