It has recently come to my attention, that even the smartest man can be wrong once or twice. A genius, can folly.... A brainiac, can blunder....
You can still try and find a smaller drive sprocket, it'll be difficult, but not impossible,If I only can come up with 6" between center line of output shaft and axle.....MAYBE with the pillow blocks on the bottom, I'll gain an inch or so, but CRAP! Now what? The drive sprocket is 2.625" in diameter. So 4.5" diameter is about the biggest sprocket I can currently run.
they're out there from IIRC 12-21T or something for nearly any engine ever made.
let me know spline count and diameter please.
ah 13.. okay.. thirteen it is then.#2 I can only run a sprocket that size. Ok, well what size sprocket do I want anyway? This is where I could use the help of you smart types (SID...... ) ...... The bike the engine came off of had 24" tall tires. I don't know the tooth count for driven but the drive is 15 and the bike had a claimed top speed of 70 or 75 mph (can't remember, but it's 17.8hp @8000rpm'?') Going from a 2' tire to only 16" , means a gear ratio change if I wanted the same performance. Will I need to go up in driven tooth count? Or down? I think I can get 13-14-16 tooth drivers as well. What's really gonna be my best option?
I don't know what type of engine it is, so I have no idea about it's internal ratios..
but let's see 8k rpm 70-75 mph.. that'd be 8:1 overall reduction for 24" wheels;
primary reduction is most likely in the realms of 1.9-2.5:1 so in fifth (close to 1:1 most likely)
the chain ratio will end up around 4:1 in worst case...
Now the good news.. if you reduce the wheel size you can reduce the sprocket to get the same speeds.
by the same ratio; 24" to 16" means 60T to 40T for a 15T driver.. that's still more like 6.5" in diameter
(2.67:1 chain ratio)
But if a 13 driver is available a 26 axle sprocket will most likely fit,
it's just a 2:1 ratio and although that's far from being ideal.. it might still work;
you have a wetclutch and that'll reduce the abuse a bit..
Ideally you'd want a 11T driver sprocket and a 30T axle (2.7:1 because of the weight
(that is if my assumptions on the internal ratios of the engine are correct)

,Sam. I'll be posting more pics tomorrow and the for the next couple days. Gonna try and finish the swing arm this weekend, so I will be that much ahead, when the new parts come in. Should be fairly simple, I even have a new hunk of 1/2" plate to use as a welding table. I'll post a pic of that too. It's shape will benefit me when building the swing arms. You'll see what I mean tomorrow, when everything is clamped up for welding.....
