I vote Kohler. No need to tear up a perfectly good sled.
Plus no worries about the aforementioned piston melting due to tuning, you'll have more toys to play with, and since it's 4 stroke, it'll have loads of torque!!!

Well after pulling on the thing a hundred times, drying off the plugs a dozen, and cleaning the carb twice , shes still fighting me. After I dry the plugs it runs for 10 seconds and dies.

So Ill pick up a set of b9hs plugs and try again tomorrow.

Also who decided the choke was not needed on a VM32 for a sled , cast over where the plunger goes. Primer only so it floods ASAP :censored:

Although I forgot how good klotz smells, miss that

After I get to ride it for the first time, if its a strong runner Ill consider.
The only thing that puts me off is the cost to rebuilt, VS kohlers I can get a dime a dozen, and switch them out quick, and are much more forgiving.

Did I mention electric start? :lolgoku:

You wouldn't happen to know the chain pitch on that engine and sled would you?

In the chaincase, double row #40

If I implement this, I would use the whole clutch and chaincase, and run the "jackshaft" off the output of the chaincase, like killdozer's rotax kart , one nice thing is mine is a Fan cooled motor, he used an earlier TNT free air engine, only good for short runs.

Finally , she is running, and strong . Found out it built in OCT 1978.

Gets out the hole nice, even with the crappy belt on it.

Some more TLC , I need to fix the wiring up, build some wear bars, new belt, and should be ready for this season.

Picked up some steel, 1 1/4 OD tubing for the front axle, and a lil plate of 3/16. Seems like most people nowadays are too afraid to make a kart from tubing, all square.

Still no word from BMI karts so I do not have the 3/4 spindle kit
yet
The hub that is "on backorder" is STILL in stock on their site.
Guess they do not want to pay for 2 shipping labels , when I live 2hrs away.

https://www.bmikarts.com/Sprocket-Brake-Hub-with-3-18-Bolt-Pattern-_p_1383.html

The order prior, 4 business days after I ordered, I heard nothing, sent an email asking for a tracking number (I have ordered there a dozen times and always got a shipping confirmation), and the next day got emailed a shipping update, with an invalid tracking number, and no explanation.

That same day the package showed up with a different tracking number on the box than what I was sent in the email.

I want to place another order, since they are so close to me, but I am reluctant after these two experiences.

Anybody else have trouble with BMI karts lately?

My BMI order finally shipped! So I can start working on the front end.

Made a steering wheel, the only logical choice is the bowtie, burned the front axle in.

Next sunday Ill take a trip down to summit racing to pick up the seat. $20 oversize shipping fee :ack2: no thanks

Needed some heat to add some dish to the wheel, looks much better

Now to find some plastic end caps for the wheel and 8 empty holes in the frame.

I wouldn't say people are too scared to make stuff out of round tubing. As someone who went to school for welding, I can safely say that there is a huge learning curve to weld it. Need to keep the angle, stickout, speed all the same to get a nice even bead all around. 6" schedule 40 pipe is one thing to weld, tubing is a whole another animal. Plus square and rectangular tubing is easier to fabricate with if you don't have the tooling.

I cannot wait to see the finished product and watch videos of this thing flying down the road.

I get it, just saying its rare to see a scratch built kart from tubing on the forum.

Hopefully soon, the sled motor with the exhaust pipe and clutch is too long to be practical.

The twin will be more compact, but I need to buy a 44c comet driver, for 1 1/8 bore , and that is not cheap.

That's a good thing. IMO, as a Journeyman welder (with a degree, I know, EEK passed many certs) and over 30 years experience.

I get that for some my next statement will cause great anal issues. Doesn't change the fact that cheap azz Harbor Freight wire machines are junk.

This is no offense to you Karl. Quite the contrary, I wish I had the gumption you have. I used to.

Honestly, a man like you could make legit machines with a 110v CC carbon arc box. A torch, whatever it takes.

Over the years I've worked with a few men like you. I was a better welder. I'd trade those skills for the creativity those guys had. Not the paycheck though. Lol.

Thank you, just a hobby for me, glue crap together and hope it works

I traveled to far away lands of tallmadge, OH to get my seat.

Can confirm does sit. Comfy, solid chunk of plastic. Good investment.

After I mount that, I can set the steering column how I like, and go from there.

I acquired some quality pre-owned seat sliders from a commercial mower.

So might as well go all out and make the seat adjustable, smoke em if ya got em, ammi rite?

Just need to pick up some carriage bolts to make it happen.

Should I put a roll bar on this thing?

Did not get to the kart but I needed some ramps so that is what got done today.

Dump truck bed is high up, so these are just shy of 9 feet.
