There's run in & then there's run in; believe me, you'll know when the engine is ready to roar.

Right now, the rings & bearings are almost bedded in but, after a few more hours of running time, the whole engine will "loosen up" (for lack of a better term)

Well... Im slowly breaking it in... ran round the neighborhood at half throttle(25-30mph) for bout an hour today. After lunch time, I gotta call from Tom(Tombomb) to come by and get my daughters previous kart:thumbsup:. I originally priced the kart n a newer motor(Tecumseh) at 150$... Tom had a set of Douglas rims he wasnt using(and I wanting a set)... so I knocked 50$ off for the rims. Widths are 6.5-5 and 5-5...

... now to get hubs n tires(I have NO idea where to get tires thatll fit these w/ a turf saver/street tread... using the 6.5-5(wanting 10"-12") for the front wheels on Lo-T:stir:(itll help the 'look' and turning, when I run a live axle setup again (both wheels powered)).

... thankya Tom:cool:

Sounds awesome but, we don't want video of it sitting still... or is that just me?

:lolgoku:.... but aint that the reason we build em?!... To show off:lolgoku:. Wife is a terrible camera person... and my daughter was driving her kart... so I didnt get any of me moving(besides its still set at half throttle... not all that 'impressive'... 35mph... if that).

This weekend is suppose to be nice... gonna gas up n probably go over to a friend of mine that has a long stretch of road(im actually wondering what I look like goin down the road at 45-55mph).

Yesterday as my daughter n I were riding round the neighborhood, a cop happened by. He pulled over, as he saw that we had already pulled off the road to let a car, behind us, go by. He glanced at my daughter(she was 10-15' away), then approached me... we killed our motors, as I stood up n removed my helmet. He gave me a kind of a surprised look(as if I wasnt whom he was expecting to see... guess he thought I was a kid). He asked if I was my daughters father, "yes-sir" was my reply(mind you this was a young cop maybe late 20's). I informed him that we were taking advantage of the warm day and blowing off some carbon and I was teaching my daughter the beginner rules of driving. He was examining Lo-T as we spoke... and OFCOURSE he asked the top 3 questions(whered I get it... what all I had done to it... how fast she'd go, he guessed 40... I had to chuckle). As I told him the calculated speed he seemed surprised and humored. He asked to take a few pics, then(the clentcher...) asked if he could see me 'do' the 55mph:roflol::roflol: (can you say entrapment?!...lol). I had to inform him that I had 'yet' to mentally be 'able' to do the 55mph(he lol) then I showed him the effects of friction and inertia(my road rash scars). He asked how fast my daughters kart would do(20mph), smiled, then hopped in his cruizer n drove away cause of a call.

The persons house we were stopped infront of, stepped out n asked if the cop had hassled us bout driving the karts in the neighborhood(a mother of a childhood friend of mine... I grewup in the neighborhood). I let her know that it didnt seem that cops(round here) had any issues w/ me driving round(course they aint seen me doin 45-50mph on a 25mph zone...:lolgoku:

True enough but, a still pic will "show it off" sitting still, a video is otherwise known as moving pictures; the only thing moving in that vid was the camera :lolgoku:
(unless you insist on including the piston, conrod, crankshaft, driver...)

Yesturday, I went over to my friends house to fine tune the GX200(valves/idle/linkages). Got the valves set... she purred like a kitten... except the intermittent poofs of white smoke. Ran her round the neighborhood a few times, at half throttle still, bringing it back... no smoke(turn off...). Let it cool off... started her up... smoke:mad2::huh:. It would only burned(s) oil for around mid warm-up(only wisps, unless throttle was given... then a 1 time plume of smoke... then no smoke(after warmed up)... guessing still seatin in the rings.

After awhile(2-3 hrs) I was zippin down the road when suddenly my rear locks up briefly!!!... then continues to go... but w/ a dragging feeling. I bring her back to the bay and inspect WTF happened... I roll the frame forward and notice the driven JS was not rolling stationary... but actually rollin in a circular motion(NOT the motion intended, mind you!). I release the chain/belt/nut/driven, and find that the outside bearing was shot/gone, for the JS!:censored::mad2:

Tomorrow I head to the bearing place and replace it(gonna try to find cylinder bearings vs the ball bearing ones that came stock w/ the TAV2). Gonna have to break off the seized on, race from the last bearings(hopefully not 'too' hard to get off).

Lastnite, I ordered new springs for the driver(found one was bent, probably from the Christmas incident, causing the 'clinging' sound(you can hear it on the video). Also had to order a new 'C' clamp for the end of the TAV JS... the one that prevents the JS from sliding through. Hoping they'll be here sometime this week(ordered from BMI).

...PS- This vid was taken before I went and 'tuned' up the motor(and evidently before the driven bearing took a dump...)

Miku vs Lo-T...

OK... plannin on movin up to a 1" live axle, runnin a 3/4" now(until I get the differential into better working order). Upgrading to a disk brake. And in the meantime getting rid of a JS(I technically run 2 JS's).

Im making a shoppin list... was wondering if I forgot anything...?

1"x39-3/8" axle...
1" bearing kit...
1" 2 piece locking collars...
brake rotor hub...
8" brake-rotor .16 thick...
Mechanical Brake Caliper...
#41 45T sprocket, w/ 1" bore 'hub'
TAV2 #41 9T (Type C) sprocket
Galvanize 4-4 Wheel-Hub w/ 1" Bore_p_1661.html

....additional questions....

A.- I know the 'strongest' placement of the bearings is as far to the ends as possible... however, Im wondering, how far is the 'safe zone' before the axle bends from leverage?... for a 1" axle... 300-400 total/overall lbs.

B.- Out of those parts linked... would anyone have .02cents to put in of their experiences per part(i.e.- notoriously bad part... known to have issues... hard to find replacements... expensive/overpriced... etc.)

C.- Is a 8"x.16" brake-disk, 'safe'?! Or should I go w/ something else? (Im well aware of the...'you get what you pay for' clause).

I had gotten a set of rim Douglas, racing rims, alil while back from a trade off. In the parts bundle I had just bought, I got a set of front hubs(finally). I decided the tread on my current front tires were good still, so decided to put the 4.10x 3.50-5 tires on my 5-5 rims...:smiley_omg:... they look AWESOME(in comparison to the way they looked on the other rims...)!!!!

Im amidst a process of replacing/relocating/upgrading my rear axle to a 1", longer(2-3 inches longer) than the 'original'(I use that term very loosely). I think pulling the rear wheel back makes the size difference in wheels 'less' dramatic(and looks meaner/more aggressive).

Yesturday I got Lo-T back on the road! Boy oh boy... she's a new kart all over again!

Im NOT running my usual live/dead wheel setup(live axle w/ only 1 wheel key locked... the other a bearing hub) w/ her anymore. W/ this rear, I have 'limited' my variables asfar as gearing(w/ the TC) and thought I may as well get used to running both:thumbsup:... and goodness there's a difference! W/ the previous setup(1 wheel wonder), doing 50mph was kinda... sketchy, to say the least. However, w/ the new setup... I 'feel' that I can finally 'open her up'(motor is still set at 2/3 throttle)!

Ok to sum up the entire project I...

-swapped 3/4"x37.5" axle to a 1"x40".
-moved the axle placement back 8" and up 3/4".
-swapped 4" band brake to a 7" mechanical disk.
-fabricated a mount/cover out of bed rails for disk.
-removed the scrub brakes.
-lowered the TC to "common" positioning.
-reenforced the motor plate, and upper framework.
-got rid of a JShaft/mount/plate.
-upgraded to a #41 chain/gears.
-swapped out front rims for a wider set 5x5.
-cut/drilled rear rims for the new 4-4 hubs.
-fabbed a rear 'bumper'(mainly to protect the sprocket/disk).

... now to paint her... again. Gotta get her ready for the show in June:thumbsup:

It's been warm past few days here(and not raining), so decided it was time to put the finishing touches... paint, decals, new fuel tank, tail light assembly, and different seat setup. I finished late... and havent painted the tank yet... but for the most part... just waiting on the PVC cement to cure, paint, run lines and clamp in place ... let me know whatchall think...

First 3 pics are before painting(right outta the working bay)...

The lil clear tube at the end of the tank is a gauge to determine the amount of fuel in the tank...

... thinking bout painting the tank black w/ red ends and silver for the down spout. Gotta make sure itll hold fuel first.

Getting a red LED setup for the tailight/brake-light after I finagle an obscure enough switch for the pedal.

Microswitch, like those used on mini quad bikes can be found for a few dollars

As a bonus, most can be wired in the open or closed position
