Can't someone just win the lottery to balance this thread a bit?

Point is...seems like all people want to post is catastrophic events...and perhaps feel like it would be inappropriate to "gloat" in their good luck while others are suffering.

But...it's not that at all...think about it: "Honey, how was your day?" We need to have uplifting happy stories too...to help us vicariously through our rough times and keep our chins up!

Only good news I have is political so I'll keep my mouth shut lol. But just of it is a certain someone won't be in a certain place come January. And yeah for the love that is all good, someone win the lottery or win big at a casino, or buy a brand new truck so we can drool over it.

As I mentioned in post #1535, my mother isn't well, she's now in her final stages of life. As a result, I'm currently back in Sydney for a week or two so, I'll, most likely be "off the air" until I return home...

:surrender: :surrender: :surrender: :surrender: :surrender:

I've still got my parents, but I've been through the loss of all my grandparents, as well as all of my great aunt's and uncle's. Add in some serious scares due to cancer with my brother and three of my eight cousin's, let's just say I'm fully sick of this getting old thing..............

Tony, all I can say is hang in there; if you were around the corner, I'd gladly lend you my shoulder.......... :surrender: :surrender: :surrender:

Well...I'll tell ya something...I spent pretty much this whole year almost sedimentary...because I was sick.

Now...I had pneumonia....but...I've been smoking for 50 years .
So...every time I got the flu...I spent 2 or 3 months with bronchitis until I got back healthy.

So...that's what I thought...

Nope...much more serious... Good news....(or maybe bad) ...is I'm FINALLY feeling like a human being again!

Only in your case, that would make you a now mobile zombie instead of one about to finally buy it? What would be the odds of you mobiling your way over to Freerunners house to take care of that for us?!?!?!? :devil2: :devil2: :devil2:

You've friggin lost it buddy....SORRY.

Ok...meanwhile....since this is MY thread....and it's off topic...so (almost) anything goes.....let me talk about what I want to for a change.

So....take this as you will:

As a young man...(6 years old) my father was electrocuted under a house.

But...he had already introduced me to the outdoors...and ESPECIALLY...fishing.

Him being dead...and my mom a single parent of six....I didn't get a lot of fishing time.

It's hard to relay the satisfaction and anticipation of preparing for a fishing trip....when you can't just hop in a car and go....

I still have dreams of catching big ones....even tho I already have far exceeded my childhood dreams of what a "big fish" was.....even more telling...is that I'm still dreaming about it
...it means the urge and fire are still there.

Is it still there???? In the youngsters of today?

To be honest...the absolute best about hunting , camping., and fishing...is the anticipation and preparation....

I hate going hunting without my dad, which is why I've missed the last few seasons. I go fishing every year with him on the ice and water. Best part about hunting is, no one to bug you while you catch some Z's 14' up in a stand. Even though I freeze my rear off, I get much better sleep in my stand, than I do in a camper...go figure.

I've only had one deer. Was maybe 40 yards from my stand, only needed one shot. The day before, there were two doe in front of my stand. Now until after this, I never have a round in the chamber, just the magazine. So the two deer were about 30 yards, I pull the bolt back on my dad's Remington 740 and squeeze the trigger...nothing. in my own stupidity and lack of readiness, plus being excited, I didn't pull it back far enough to strip the round from the mag, into the chamber. I did have time to do it, because I didn't scare them off...but I just didn't do it.

24 hours later, one of the same doe came into the area. I was already locked and loaded. I flipped the safety off, lined her up in my scope and got her. I knocked her over a bit, since it was a chest/lung shot. She stumbled back up and got maybe 10 yards and collasped. I had contemplated a second shot, but I felt it was a waste of ammo, once she dropped for the last time.

The last thing I learned that day was, I have a weak stomach when it comes to field dressing a deer. Almost lost my breakfast while my dad and I were pulling organs out.

I'm still like that too this day. But doesn't stop me from enjoying the sport. Really tempted to get a bow for hunting close to home, just in case I can't make to rifle season. But I'd prefer a crossbow, but some stupid organization up here, doesn't want everyone to have one, only people 65 or disabled. Bunch of bs.

Yeah.. Unfortunately, my dad died when I was six...I didn't get to deer hunt with him.

That didn't stop my corrupt alcoholic uncles from turning me into one....

Nice...huh? Wouldn't it be nicer to make that decision at 22...than be spoon fed alcohol at age 7?

Anyway...the uncles wanted to make a man out of me...so that included shoving a high powered rifle in my arms.

Now...I know how to aim and shoot a rifle...(I have a pellet gun) and I'm actually a pretty accomplished small game hunter with it.

So...they have a paper plate tacked to a tree 100 yards away.I shoot...the bullet hits at 5 O'clock on the plate.

These people have no idea how good a shot I REALLY am. They chamber another round...I aim at 10 O'clock and squeeze the trigger. The paper plate flies off the tree!!! I didn't even know it...but it was nailed up with a roofing nail right through the bullseye!

---------- Post added at 07:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:22 AM ----------

Anyway...this was one of grandpa's many guns...scope sighted 303 British. I don't know why...and nobody ever will...but his rifles were "sighted to his eyes"??????

So...this haunted me a few years later hunting ALONE!!! In a deer stand...WHATEVER... I see a deer.. .... ........now even worse.... . these guys don't even make it clear if it's Ok or not to shoot a doe!!!!!!

So...I'm like 8 or 9 in this tree stand. Waiting for that big buck...and here comes this poor little doe. She's close...about to leave...so I take the shot. she stumbles a bit as she jumps the fence a runs off.

I know I hit her...but how well??....Gramps only gave us 3 shells...which honestly.. If a man has sighted his gun in (which he dadgum sure outta do before hunting) should only need two anyway...JIC.

SO....I didn't have a lot of deer hunting experience.....BUT!!! I dreamed of hunting and fishing and lived vicariously through FIELD AND STREAM!!! So...I remembered from an article that wounded deer will often only go a short distance and lay down. I waited a bit...then came out of the blind and made a 100 yard circle.

Sure enough...not 20 yards from the blind in the direct line she took.. She was laying down looking at me....I aimed at her neck and shot. ...

I killed her.. but totally missed her neck...wanna guess how?

Ok...so if somebody figures that out...fine...let's continue on....

Just for the heck of it.. Not only was I not supposed to shoot cows.. Duh !!! But "Fellers"! Now...I never saw Fellers while hunting... I DO know he exsisted... Because I petted him when I was a kid...

---------- Post added at 10:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:33 AM ----------

Sooo...somebody caught a baby deer.. They named him Fellers...even though they castrated him...when he became of age he got wild.

Make no mistake...A whitetail deer can kill you...Google it chumps.

Anyway.. they turned Fellers loose with a cowbell on it's neck...so...when you hear the cowbell...get ready...cause the herd is coming in..but don't shoot Fellers!!!

That's all true!!! I swear it!

I'm guessing the scope was sighted to be a bit off from point of aim on purpose and only he would know where to really aim. I know ballistics gets super complicated at ranges...take into account wind, relative humidity, temperature, ammunition type. But regardless, you aimed where you thought it would hit, but it didn't.

.303 is a bit much for a kid, even my .308 is a bit much for me so I use a recoil pad. If you were using an Enfield, that sucker is really heavy.

So,..anyway....back to what prompted me to post in the first place....

I went hunting on a buddies lease. He told me to shoot anything....so a doe walks out in front of the blind. I watched her walk a long way through the woods...and kept looking behind her for a buck. She was crossing a road and about to get into heavy woods...so I popped her. She kicked and ran.

I looked and a spike buck was standing at the edge of the road looking where she went. I leveled down on him and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. DOH!!! I had been doing a lot of dove hunting with my automatic shotgun...and forgot that you have to reload bolt actions.

I very carefully ejected the shell and reloaded...and as soon as I got him in sight...pulled the trigger. He jumped back..made a couple more leaps and dropped less than 20 yards away. I climed down and cleaned him...his heart was shot.

So...I'm wondering how I could drill him perfectly and miss a doe. So..I see where she kicked...but no blood...I track in the direction she went and found her about 25 yards away. Unfortunately, because she was quarted to me the bullet had exploded her guts and that's why she didn't bleed.

My buddy showed up and I told him I had a gutshot doe we needed to get washed up pronto. He said: I heard you shoot twice. I said yeah...there's a dead buck over there.

He about freaked.

Nobody ever figured out why grampa sighted his guns to "his eyes". Definitely wasn't for any ballistic reasons...perhaps he habitually jerked the trigger...which would make a low and to the right sighting make sense.

Anyway...so yes...I aimed at the heart and she stumbled and jumped the fence....After I killed her...I found she basically had a skinned knee....THAT'S IT!

So...she was walking to the right....where does the bullet go?

It had actually been a year or more since I shot that rifle...it never dawned on me it was mis-sighted.

So...when I spot this doe...she is laying down...with her head and neck up....and her body to the right! So really...not hard to figure.

Sorry...no idea...but I meant to quote Kartorburst... not me?

I wonder if he jerked it because a lot of those old rifles had a trigger pull of 10+lbs or maybe recoil sensitive.

Well, today I attended my mothers funeral. After fighting (to the very end) for over a week, she passed away quietly last Saturday, October 15... which just happens to be one of my sister's birthday... All but two of my siblings, & a few of the (adult) grandkids were by her bedside...

Now comes the fun part; I have a 20' shipping container coming either tomorrow or Monday, then I start loading all my stuff, ready for transport to Warwick...

So...nothing earthshattering...but I started this thread so people could vent....( especially me, myself and I)!

Anyway...after all the trials and tribulations with the Escort ($nake wreck)...the Ho$pital stay...and the truck overheating..m( not to mention $ome financial problems)....I finally get the truck overheating problem solved...getting ready to go work and make $ome badly needed monie$....(did I mention $$$$?).

Anyway....my truck developed another problem: when you hit the brakes...it felt like the passenger front tire was going to come off and shook the whole truck.

Thursday afternoon I took it to the dealership to get checked out....long story short...I called at 2:30pm today....and they said there was a factory recall on a speed sensor and they had to wait on a part...but it was in....and now they were looking into my "brake issue"....EXCUSE THE HEEL OUTTA ME?

You SIDELINE MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION FOR MOST OF THE DAY.....WAITING ON A PART... AND DON'T LOOK AT WHAT I BROUGHT IT IN FOR?????

I wanna go postal at a Ford dealership....

This is my ONLY TRANSPORTATION ATM!!!!!

See and I only buy and like Ford. While GM's LS engines make sense to me and Ford engines are nearly Chinese to me...I still like and buy Ford. Yeah they are hard press when it comes to using Motorcraft parts only and what not, but I like Ford.

Hope I can find a Ranger and then either a V2203 Kubota or Caterpillar 3.4L and swap it in for better mpg. A few guys around have swapped in the Kubota V2203 DI and IDI into rangers and S10, as well as a few Jeeps and got 25-40mpg. Not too shabby I think since the stock gas engines get 15-20mpg on a good day.

It's too bad though. The Kubota was used in refer trailers since 2006 and a few years ago had to be pulled out because they only met EPA Tier III emissions. They became pretty popular fast, nearly as fast as the Cummins 4BT, so they are becoming hard to get for a good price.

I hate electronic diesels. They run too tight of tolerances for the injectors and cost a fortune to rebuild (only a couple, maybe 3 companies in the US) rebuild high pressure common rail diesel injectors, because even the smallest burr on the tip, can cause premature failure, costing thousands.
