It is a shame those engines are out of date. They are **** near bullet proof, Ford Chevy whatever. I would have thought you should be able to find one not needing too much work cause like a briggs 5HP they are hard to kill.
Bummer. I guess you know the reality better than I, since you have looked into this.

Its a location thing too... all the old people here don't wanna part with their junk without an upcharge and reasonable price. and the young people who might have said old junk, think because its "VINTAGE" yeah that word. F*** that word. because of that word, everyone thinks their junk is actually worth a ****.

"Oh umm, yeah its vintage.. it has no cam cover, and missing the cams, been sitting in my back shed for idk, a few years it should run fine.." get there and its COVERED in rust. not just like a flash rust, like pretty sure the engine was dragged off the bottom of the ocean, rust.. 5 grand? LOLOLOLOL. that's 2 grand away from a BRAND NEW engine, THATS READY TO GO besides throttle body.

You would think there was some company out there making crate engines, that would make a straight six... I mean common sure they're out of date in terms if their size and such but generally speaking there was a decent amount made. but finding a used one that doesn't need TONS of work is a chore in itself!.. I'm not asking perfect condition. just something that's all in one piece.. I guess you pay a premium now days for things like this. maybe I could find an alternative. been looking at a few complete motors, about 7 grand shipped, and tested before they leave. seems like a good enough deal, but that's 7 grand for cast iron.. [ick] a aluminum block is a good chunk more. Idk I'll have to think about it for a few weeks...

IMO, the biggest issue is either the cars fitted with the engines in question have been scrapped over the years or the engines have been replaced in favour of a V8... & the old engine is scrapped...

As a result, there's very few remaining rebuildable engines so, anyone who really wants one will pay through the nose to get one...

Supply & demand...

Possibly the best chance you have of aquiring a "decent" (complete) engine is to buy a complete car...

I'm not looking for any model in particular.. just for an inline six of some sort to tinker with and get running as I've always liked the sound of I6's but never got to work on one. I just want to work on one. lol

Doug your truck is a '94? right. I had a '93 F150 standard cab short bed with the I-6. 150k miles no problem. The thing is Ford was using this "E4OD" automatic tranny. Made the truck into the biggest gutless wonder ever. My uncle had an '89 I-6 manual 4wd with a granny gear. That thing was a stump puller! No Speed but all the low end torque of a Mack truck.

Well...I figured out today mines a 5 speed... not sure what is going on with the 4 wheel drive but I've only been able to get in low 2 and low 4...

Anyway.....I went out to the nature trail to get firewood to smoke some chicken...and...I thought...what the hey...I've got a 4 wheel drive...lemme just drive offroad and save a little walking....

So....first off...just getting off the road was a one foot drop...then ...when I got ready to leave...there was a 3' burm I thought I could clear....

Ummmmm.....no! I high centered and in low 4 wheel drive...I put the truck under quite the strain to get unstuck.... I got freed going backwards....so I just changed my path slightly and hit it a little faster and went right over....

So....as I'm driving home...this truck is making the most godawfull clanking noise....and I'm wondering what in the world I have broken on this truck....(remember too, this is the first time I've used the 4 wheel drive!

So....I drive it home...(only a quarter mile) ...and take a look around....

The spare tire carrier was dragging the ground! !!!!!

Poboy is now happy happy happy! !!!

Woke up Tuesday morning to the flu....spent all week half dead... with a runny nose, coughing up phlegm every five minutes with a sore throat and achy lungs....running a temp above 102°f....barely able to get up and around for less than an hour a day....after I emptied out the Kleenex box....I went through half a roll of toilet paper.

The high grade fever broke yesterday morning and my nose quit running, and I started sweating....been through 5 clothes changes and I'm still sweating.....my lungs aren't as bad...but I'm still coughing, and my throat is still tender....I feel like I still have a low grade fever, but haven't used a thermometer because I can tell it's on the downside of 100, and I'll take it for now....

Anyway, feels good to be much closer to the land of the living....

Well, here's another bummer....it's been in the mid 70's all week....and I spent it in bed....just a bit ago...I went to unhook my battery charger from the new truck, before it started raining, and was 5 minutes late!!!!!

I hope it's ok....at least I got all those tools I used on the tailgate put away Friday....(including my welder) ....

Now....it's going to be 20° cooler and rainy!

Well...been feeling better...but...turns out...I'm not much better....flu's gone...but...now I have pneumonia....

Also....some kind of totally nasty sinus infection....the best way to describe it is someone put a dead rat in your head......

I've had it intermittently over the years....(once it caused the divorce of 25 years of marriage) ....only had it rear it's ugly head about three times....but its evil!!!!

Really wanted to get a 'MyPurMist' today....as I almost coughed myself to death last night....but ...bought a $36 Vicks contraption instead....(we'll seee....)

On the other hand: Sammy has spent more time inside today than he has in the last two months combined....funny how cold rain tames the savage beast!

My day is going to be crappy. I am having a shoulder operation today to remove a spur of bone that has been affecting movement of my muscles in the shoulder. I get admitted in about 3 hours. I am definitely not looking forward to that
