I know I see youtube videos in the near future of a gas powered table saw grabbing boards and shooting them out as projectiles at some pretty impressive speeds lol.

tell me the difference between a 8 HP electrical with 12" blade 4000RPM table saw motor.

And a respectfully 5 maybe 5 1/2. Gas powered motor at 3500 RPM...

1/2 HP can cut off fingers.

6 HP just does it with more torque...

People think having a gas powered motor is a bit insane, but realistically if you think about it. Most Pro shops run 8HP electric motor saws. 8 HP is 8HP no matter how you got there, Electrical, Gasoline, Steam, Waterwheel... Its still 8HP.

Now if I could get a 4HP gasoline motor I would, only for the fact that it would eat less gasoline..

Now if you want some crazy sheeet. look for pictures from WW2 of factorys that sewed clothing and other military stuff like parachutes. the sewing machines are all connected together with one BIG OL motor on the outside of the building, with the shaft going through the wall coming all the way through the building, with little belts coming down connected to the sewing machines. the motor is like 400HP or something... In theory, you have at least 400HP going to your sewing machine.. LOL you didn't bend needles, YOU DESTROYED THEM!

no noo, a big external flywheel. like you see on older hit and miss engines...? Not the one on the engine. one that would connect to the jackshaft.

Keep your dead motor: add it to the system via belt, and use it's rotor assembly as rotational mass....

As for the old overhead line shaft systems, it wasn't the price of individual electric motor's dropping that drove them out of the shop's......

OK....SO...let's put all the bull to rest right now....torque and horsepower have very little to do with it!!!!

It's RPM!!!!! PERIOD!!!!

Now....lack of horsepower or torque...may keep the projectile in control or scrub some speed off...but most "throwbacks" happen fast....with little resistance or scrub of speed....

So....whether you live or die....depends on how successful the blade was at launching it....the size of the board...and the shape of the board....

And most shops use 3-5 hp table saws.....

Trust me....coming from a guy that got hit just above the crotch by a "backfire" ....I could have been in serious trouble if it hadn't hit the pubic bone...and hit an inch or so lower....

The bruise was nasty....soft tissue would likely have been torn or removed....:surrender:

No, I meant intentionally making videos of you using it to launch boards as projectiles.

I've seen gas powered table saws.

My grandpa still has an extremely old one powered by a 10hp liquid cooled diesel engine that works great, but that thing will throw a board across his field without trouble lol.

So will industrial table saws....I'm not embellishing the fact that an inch higher or lower would have put me in the hospital or worse.....

My boss told me about an "off-fall" that took off 100' and went through both sides of a 'Brute' industrial trash can.....

Preventing pinched boards is key to not shooting things across fields... also standing to the side of your piece just encase it kick backs. not saying it happens, just like not saying you don't crash on motorcycles. as long as safety is number one on your mind, not just getting the work done, nothing bad should happen.

That being said today, I went to a motorcycle repair place to get some mirrors, and I got some, thought they would be fine, screwed them on and tested them, thought they'd just need adjustment, nope just doesn't stick out far enough and can't see past my own arms...

25 dollars... Wonder if I could return them Tuesday or something. IF not. ill just try to sell them on ebay or craigslist for 30 bucks. they look alright chromes good and no rusty spots, no scratches on the mirrors.

while I was there I was looking into new tires, the girl behind the counter kept giggling for no reason and the shop owner?* was a chair over working on the computer and he goes "you know shes single right..?" I swear, it went from awkward to super awkward in under 5 words.

I don't do well under those situations.. lets just say my pockets where full of spaghetti.

In my situation....I was using a tenon jig...and adjusting it to the proper size tenon....running it and flipping the piece....then taking it out and measuring with a dial caliper...putting it back in...and repeating...and I only had about 1/128" to go to perfection....and I forgot to turn the clamp screw....I wasn't worried about kickback so I was right behind it....When I pushed forward on the jig....the test block simply tipped forward onto the top of the blade....and came back at me an estimated 400 fps....

Now as to location....(where it hit me)....let's just say....the tablesaw surface is 36" off the floor....and I wear a 35" inseam pair of pants....(when I can find them)... or 36" in jeans or 34" in dress pants).....

Bad as that hurt....sticking your finger in the blade is worse....(which I've also done).... and it took 20+ years of almost a daily basis using one to manage to do both....:mad2:

I got me one of those jigs... LOL I've heard they like to cause kick backs.. never had it happen to me, but my personal saw never lasted long enough for it to happen...

I've had the same problem on every bike I've owned. Bar end mirrors work well but then they're too far out of my peripheral. I'm just used to tipping my head and bringing my elbow in to do mirror checks by now.

Well as long as she did not have "mint green hair and a flowered shirt." You need an excuse to go back and "Look at more tires"
Sounds like if she just kept giggling for no reason, she likes you, Really what have you got lose? just give her your number.

Have you ever had a relative who's world view is so self centered, that when you fail/refuse to answer a phone call, they call back every couple of minutes? And I'm talking about like up to ten times, not two or three....

This past week was very unpleasant temperature wise; yesterday and today have been much better, so it was time to wage war with the lawn. Things went well up to the point where I came away with the handle and half of the rope for the pull start on the mower. Pull start only (14 HP, pull start only).

Get a new rope & handle: put it back together today, get back to work... And apparently that's where I went wrong.....

There are actually a few instances where I encourage people to if it's something important. But that's regarding time sensitive stuff during periods I'm likely to be on my bike and unlikely to tell my phone's going off. Otherwise... if it's important they can leave a message/text.
