Riding the roller coaster.....

Last week we got hammered with snow (not as bad as upstate NY, but unpleasant enough), over the weekend we almost made it to 60°F, and now , as I type this, we're dropping past the freezing point again. To top it off, we have high winds, and power line's are down all over the place. Could be down for a couple of days.

Yuck!!!!!

It's not just you guys up north that are having mad weather:

Friday: 41°C
Saturday: 28°C
Sunday: 39°C
Monday: 33°C
Right now, Tuesday 1:30pm: 23°C

... & IT'S NOT EVEN SUMMER YET!

Tony, I'd feel sorry for you if I knew what those temperatures meant.....:lolgoku:
Some mornings, I go to work wearing 2 thermal shirts and a couple t shirts under my work shirt, carrying my electronic tricks heater. Then come home in a sleeveless t shirt...... Or just the opposite, which is worse, if you didn't watch the news the night before.
We have a saying, here in Texas.....
"If you don't like Texas weather, well, just wait a few minutes...... " :lolgoku:

Ok, I'll translate:

Friday: 41°C = 106°F
Saturday: 28°C = 82°F
Sunday: 39°C = 102°F
Monday: 33°C = 91°F
Tuesday 1:30pm: 23°C = 73°F

the Celsius system should be easy enough
water boils at 100 and frezzes at 0

if it makes anyone feel better its been real nice here
right around 27 to 33

we had a little bush fire a few km away and lost power for a day
but otherwise all good

iv seen those pics of the storms around the great lakes area on the news (i think machinists area)

that looks a little how ya going
bugger that

If you grew up with the Fahrenheit system, it isn't that simple. That's why every thermometer that I've ever purchased has both systems displayed. When I translate between the two, it's because I have both side by side: not because I can handle the mental gymnastics to sort it out.

It's not like referencing back and forth for dimensions or torque values; those are basic math. The disparity between the temperature systems just plain aren't...

I'd say that I hate you, if it weren't for the fact's that I can always put on another layer of clothing; I can only take so many off before I can't legally leave the house. And the brush fire's you folk's have had over the last several years are nothing I want to have to deal with......

In my part of the state we only had ~18" (~35 to 40 cm). In some places in upstate NY, they got over 7 feet of snow (not inches, feet. That's over 2.2 meters...)... And for all of us, it fell in only a 24 hour window.....

lets make it a hows my week

on monday i was sumoned to the front office to sign a new contract (not uncommon in this industry)

while reading the contract i realize im going on a 2 and 1 roster (work 2 weeks get one week off

this means one thing, im going out to site
but which site
after a few phone calls it was eventually discovered im going out to carosue dam gold mine to work full time

awesome bit of communication in the company there :censored:
but its good as i get a pay increase:wai:

so i sign that all good
go back to work and the supivisor comes out and he looks at me odd then asks what im doing
"putitng guards on the 330 digger"
"why"
"because u told me to this moring"
"na start packing your tools your flying out thursday"

so they have been planning this transfer for months now as part of a reshuffle in the company to get less reliant on contractors

but failed to tell me i was in it till 3 days before i have to fly out

and i just spent $150 on a food restock on sunday thinking ill be right for a few weeks

so now iv given most of that to my neighbour as it will be rotten by the time i return

just now i was looking at my roster
first swing 4 to the 18th
second swing 25th to the 8th
fly out christmas day and miss the whole festive season

wicked
currently really loving my employer

in other news i purchased myself a Christmas present

a samsung note 12.2 tablet
and as iv recently rediscovered lego
because when i was a kid $300 was omre money then i would ever imageing so i never got those big cool lego or technic sets

now $300 is still quite a bit
but its only one less night out on the town
so i got this loader
thats fully remote control
took me 4 hours to build
oh and yes it is strong enough to lift and drive around with the beer

happy with my new toys anyhow
not too happy at employer

man....thats a bummer that you got to move, but it sounds as if there is some good mixed into it there. Well done on the promotion/salary raise.

Would you have been transfered if you hadn't qualified as a mechanic

I don't have to move

They would never get workers if they required live on site

It's called FIGO
Fly in fly out

So they fly me to site
Which is west of the middle of no where

Then I work 12 hrs a day for a week
1 day off
12 hrs night shift for a week

Fly me back to Perth
For a week off

And repeat that cycle

Get 5 weeks of paid leave a yr instead of the national average 4 weeks

It's generally consider a good thing
Not good for a family
But for a young single bloke there's plenty of advantages

Just real **** timing

Look up carosue dam mine site
It's north east of kalgoorlie

I struggle to stay above the poverty level.....but often work on houses that belong to multi-millionaires....(and cost multi-millions) ...so I get to see some cool things and how the other half lives.....one of the houses had one of those pizza ovens in the kitchen.....

Some of the stuff is mind boggling....a $10,000 master bath....wine cellars with 5 fully stocked coolers and shelves for a few hundred bottles....and all expensive vintages......

Last cool house I worked on had a natural looking pool which fed into a stream....to a waterfall....which you could walk above on a glass bridge....and an in house movie theater (25 seats)....the back row being 2 heated massage recliners......

Just outside...in the hallway....a glass top counter...for candy bars and such....a commercial popcorn machine...hot dog machine....nacho cheese dispenser....and a full tap soda dispenser....4 taps IIRC....

The sound system alone in the theater was several thousand dollars....one speaker was $500.....and I believe there were 6 of those....

Ah yes the higher class. During my construction days i worked on a quite interesting house. Walked into a room with a tennis court in it. The owner showed us the cool part of it.
He proceeded to retract the floor to reveal a full size pool.
Some people huh.
