Viruses, malware, spyware, worms, etc, etc, etc, most normal people think everything is a virus anyways so it's just easier to say virus.

Yes 99% of all such things are targeted at windows, and we both know the reason behind that. For those that don't know though: windows is run on 90 something % of all home based computers. So think to yourself, if you were to make a virus (or whatever else) wold you want it to target 3-5% of the market, or would you want it to target the 90%?

Now apple has started to get a real foothold, and their user base is increasing every day. Because of this more and more "bad things" are being made that will target the operating system.

I digress though, the fact is, and it's more of a pet peeve than anything, but apple products can and do get those "bad things". It's just no where near on the level of windows based (and now even android) devices.

It's just a pet peeve of mine when people say it's not possible. It is, it's just pretty rare.

Having everything locked down though is no fun at all. Personally I want full access to all of my devices. I want to be able to screw around with things, implement custom everything, and take full control of what runs and what doesn't. I buy a device for the specs and what I can do with it, not for the name, or what they will let me do with it lol.

I paid the cash for it, it's mine. Just like when I buy a car, if I want to dismantle it I can because it's mine. If I want to go into the on board "computer" and change things I can, because it's mine.

Every work/office software in a lot of places is switching over to Mac. because they offer programs like "buy our computers/software and we will give your whole office workers free IPads" and things like that..

I've honestly said, after this whole windows 8, [not 8.2] failure and then windows 10 coming out.. just the things and how as a company is handling and doing things. its becoming more of a F2P MMO cash shop thing, then it is an OS.. Seriously. you're NOW gonna make me pay .99 cent to play minesweeper? AFTER ALL THESE YEARS?

LOL!

Oh no Gordon, not everything is a Virus....

HUUGE difference, and frankly you should not mess those things up.

Just like you CANNOT fight a common cold with antibiotics, you cannot fight spyware with antivirus (well with some you can detect some... nevermind...)

Anywhoo, again if you're talking about computers, you can get a Virus no matter what OS you're running (I think I have one somewhere that's almost impossible to catch a virus with, since I'm the proud[not] owner [out of curiosity] of maybe half a dozen sold copies...
I cannot even remember it's name -if you want I'll see if I can find the CD in a box somewhere-

But do not forget that most people nowadays think Apple invented the mp3 and is basically a phonecompany.
So chances are it's an iPhone, iPod, iPad your aunt was talking about, in which case (assuming she doesn't know much about jailbreaking ;)) she's still correct.

The tools _I_ consider malicious some of you use regularly and happily ...
like the facebook app, or many (nearly all) photo apps etc.
"for your convenience we take all your contacts and compare them to our database..." *cough* NOPE, you don't!

And simple fact.. if any one would ever read an end user license noone would ever use such apps at all.
If you count that as Malware (which I do) we're on the same page.. calling it a Virus is a bit of a stretch though ;)

But I agree on the "mine"-thing... I want to do what ever I please with my stuff.
and if that's running vintage software, then it'll be it.

Just imagine, you couldn't play any songs older than 2011 on your iPod..
basically the same thing :D

Yes, I know the differences between them all, but most normal smart/computer users don't, so it's easier to just say vitus instead of trying to explain to them.

I guess she would be half right then, because she was talking about not only her iphone, but also her macbook that "has been acting funny lately".

Facebook app...no thanks. IL stick to logging in on Firefox mobile. Camera app, well since I have the same one that came with the phone...and can't change it (\#¥!\×;×*#€×:) I guess I'm just stuck with that.

Hmm vintage software say you? Like my favorite laptop that I still run red hat 9 on? Don't get me wrong, I still have windows 7 on my other laptop, but that's also split between Ubuntu as well.

I will say one thing good about apple that I truly like. Their ipods, at least the older ones, I loved them. I had an ipods nano, one of the first gen, like 8gb I think, and the outside was aluminum. I accidently ran that thing over with my truck and still used it lol.

So anyways....lol

Bought another truck the other day. Got it cheap because they over filled the gas tank while it only had one strap hooked up. Went to drive it out of the gas station and the tank dropped lol. So I'm talking to the guy, clean truck for the most part, 89,000 miles, ext cab, 4 doors. Not bad at all.

He can't show me it runs... ok. I check out the engine, everything looks clean, oil is a little dark so I know it's been driven. Trans fluid looks/smells/tastes good (yes I taste trans fluid, a lot you can tell by smell and taste) coolant looks good. Underside looks good, no leaks that I can see. Have him crank it while listening with my stethoscope, everything inside sounds good.

He wants 800 which isn't a bad price at all. "Well since you can't show me it runs (he forgot to bring spray) and I don't know the condition of anything without actually driving it...I'll give you 500 cash now". I don't think I can go that low, 700? I pull out the 500 cash, "no, 500".

650?

"No, 500".

You can't do 550?

(You all see where this is going I'm sure)

No, $500 cash now" I start counting it in front of him.

Hmmmm, crap, ok 500.

I pull it home, 4 miles. Grab some spray, wife turns the key while I shoot some spray, and it purrrrrs like a kitten.

Another 99 dodge ram, just a little rust, 89,000 miles, 4 door, new set of tires on it with maybe 50 miles at most, still have the nubs on them. The tires alone are over $800 for the set.

On top of that I have a guy that wants body parts off my green one. He's paying me twice what I paid for the whole truck lol.

So I'm pulling the tank out of the green one for the white new one. Pulling engine and trans and every other thing I can sell or use, then scrapping the rest.

I just wish it was 4x4 now lol. Whatever, trucks a truck. Could always sell it later and buy a 4x4 one since it bluebooks in fair condition for over 4 grand. Yes, I do plan on fixing all the rust issues and then repainting, maybe hitting the bottom 10-12" with bedliner and adding fender flares. Might add some stacks going through the bed too just for fun. Thinking about making a custom brush guard/push bar.

:smiley_omg: You bought another DODGE!
Save yourself the hassle and just scrap them both! :roflol:

I like my dodges just like I like my chevys. Won get another F.O.R.D. though that's for sure.

I've never had any major problems with dodge rams, just rust which is easy to correct and prevent if caught early.

Would you drive a jeep?

No but for seriousness I won't drive another actual Chrysler vehicle. A dodge ram yes, actual Chrysler he** no. In 80,000 miles I've replaced my mother in laws tie-rods 4 times, and shocks all around twice, on a 08 Chrysler 300. The Sebring I owned didn't make it to 100,000 miles, and that was with babying it and doing the scheduled maintenance.

Rams I've never had a problem with though.

I would drive an old jeep. Like one my brother has with a GM V6, and live axle 4WD. My mothers old Chrysler LHS, was a really nice car the first 3 yrs and 45k miles then it was quarterly water pumps and 2 transmissions and everything on the interior just started falling apart, door locks, radio buttons, AC knobs. and mind you this was a 55 yr old womans car with no kids or teens abusing it.

Every Dodge mini van I have ever seen blows smoke after sitting at a red light, I mean 3yrs old or 15, just crappy motors. Not to mention they pretty much started giving lifetime warranties on the Van trannys in the 90s. I know a guy who went through like 6 in under 100k miles. Just a pathetic company all around.

I guess I would drive a Viper too just for fun. The only thing in my opinion Dodge EVER did right was contract with Cummins Diesel for their Ram Engines.

Their magnum engines are really.good of taken care of properly. Chrysler cars and vans, dodges cars and vans are CRAP lol.

The trucks are what they do right besides the rust.

Cool. I never owned one. Funny thing is back in early 90s before the new body style it was hard to tell a 1990 dodge truck from a 1970. That was the joke around here, "Hey is that the new dodge truck?"... "Naw that's my old 1974, I just washed it"

ALL cars will rust.. when you buy a new car it legit says in the contract that the under body is only good for like 5 years.. I'm spoiled to not live around salty air, or a place where it snows, I guess when it comes to cars. Things tend not to have rusty body panels around here, unless they've come from upnorth [best part about living here, you can always tell if a car came from up north or is native. you avoid the upnorth ones at all cost.]

You all need to stop talking about 4x4s. I keep lookin in my wallet and dying a little on the inside everytime.

Thats it, the rams getting ferrari badges!

---------- Post added at 02:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:34 AM ----------

I actually have to replace the gas tank straps because they're almost rusted through actually. Was thinking about making my own at first since a sets like $60. Then I remembered that when I got my black lifted ram years ago it had ratchet straps holding the tank up. I drove it like that for years with no problems. Rain, sleet, 3 foot deep snow, off roading, mudding, bever had any problems. Yup gonna ratchet strap it lol.

Wow! Ferrari badges on a Dodge Ram and ratchet straps holding the tank on. I bet you could drive that thing right into White settlement,Texas and they would just think you were a local. Probably even give you Police escort to the Poboy for President Campaign Headquarters!
Oh wait police only escort people off those premises.

Hahaha! Hey dont knock ratchet straps, they don't rust, but the steel ones do. You would be suprised how strong and chemically resistant nylon straps are, especially considering that they're 2 1/2" wide straps rated at 1,200 pounds each and I'm using 4.
Plus I don't have to lift the tank up, just ratchet it in place.
