Man, that sucks dude.... I was totally surprised to see you had already built it, " over night".... LoL
Hey, :idea2: I think you're gonna need more like 4:1 using the sprockets.... (small jackshaft )

How bad did you burn yourself? I hope your ok!it would really be :censored:up if it worked but you couldn't drive because of the burn..... So at least you're lucky THAT didn't happen..... (looking for something positive from this....)

It was overnight.
Was up from bed at 6:00 ...
Then trying to use only welder and hand saw to not wake up kids...
And wife... Only wife :p

I know exactly what you mean. It's the same way here. I also have the HOA to worry about. (that's a group of people who tell you what you can and can not do in/at your own home) having all the go karts and working on them creeps up on the borders of getting a letter telling me I have to get them out of here.
I quit using my grinder and saw by 10pm. After that, it's either hand cut, or left for the next day. I try to cut up everything ill will need that night first, then make little cuts here and there, quickly. I'll run my welder all night. It the neighbors have a problem with light coming from my garage, they need to look somewhere else.....

Sounds like we live in the same type village. Mine is just bigger and full of more @#$#+!%$...... :lolgoku:

I have a really dumb question for you.... Have you thought about just wrapping some small diameter rope around the starter ring, and pull start it? I mean just for now, until you get it the way you want...... That's how I start my granddad's old 2 stroke outboard engine. And you can do a standard kart engine that way too......

That was first solution ...
But, as you seen, the rotating ring was 5mm from seat...
So , before that, I put it on right side of engine on magnet, so I can freely put rope and pull but wodrof key on magnet didn't agree with that option and died after 2 pulling...
I made new one but same result so after I made 3th I gave up of this solution...

No no no no....... Put it on the side next to seat. You only need about 1 meter of rope. The rope should rap around ring. From the pictures, I do not see any reason that you could not do this. You can't give up yet.... You are not done, my friend.
For the chain to work, you are going to have to have at least a 4:1 ratio to get the speed you need to get a good spark. It will also make it easier to pull. You have to make sure you are getting the full swing too. Can you post up pics of the engine, starter/kicker side. Just chill out, relax, and only think about it. Don't try anything...... Just think about it. Different ways. Try to guess outcomes of theoretical changes. Sometimes I just draw on paper, different things.... It's going to come to you, buddy.... It's going to come to you. Don't give up, you've done come too far.....

ok.. from begining ...

so, orginaly, this motor has kickstarter on left side .. as I have accident with old kart, I broke it... old kart also was really bad and engine was placed on left side of gokart and beyond wheels lines ...
so on new kart I decide to put it on right side of gokart and put starter on right engine side as you can see:

later , I used holes on magnet (flywheel) and some bolts to hold this ring in place:

but , woodruff key could not tahe this stres:

so after fixing it , I returned strater ring on left engine side but it was too close to seat:

it's bit hard to put rope in here but it is possible .. and that's how I strated it and do test run ..

thi is last attempt with sporcket..

Its work like .... Hmmm... Well, didn't start the engine. :p

Jim said that ratio is too low...

I have 32/13 and need 4/1...

Lever on engine goes from 3 to 7 o'clock...

Second lever goes from 2 to 5 but is bit hard to do it with hand...

With leg has tendecy to twist...

And still could not fit together with seat...

Also, chain didn't mach on ends, on both ends were male-ends...

So if I conected it to some chain hanging , there was some jumping the tooths...

Than I put spring on bottom line...

But when I put the seat, engine lever(small sprocket) did not return to starting pozition. If I pull the second lever (bigger soprocket), this would only stretch spring.

So after every attempt have to kick seat at least with small hammer, but mostly with leg...

I know you have a starter coming...... But this is how I would have tried it. The leverage incorporated would make it easier to spin over......
EDIT you need closer to 5 hours of movement.....

I didn't even thinking of combination sprocket-lever...

But still no room between seat and engine...

Cannot move engine, there is no space on axle to move sprocket...

Got starter today, but i have no time to fit it before sunday (if I get up early)..

But thanks anyway man, beer on me ;)
