So I was kinda wondering what prompted you all to start playing?
I was forced to take piano lessons from a mean old lady down the street as a kid, but I toataly hated it and never learned a dam thing before my parents finally let me quit.
Then at the age of 32 my wife gave me an acoustic guitar for Christmas. I had no Idea how to play it but I was soon able to pick out the single notes (by ear) to some tunes I liked. Shortly after that I talked an old buddy (and a very talented singer/songwriter/guitarist that had started preforming on TV at the age of 10!) into showing me a few cords. He was down on his luck and had sold off all his guitars and stuff but my guitar lessons quickly evolved into us just sitting around partying and then him just playing/singing his tunes for hours on end.
I soon decided I really didnt wanna take all the time to learn a bunch of guitar cords and stuff but instead try to accompany him on the bass instead. So... I went out and bought me an inexpensive bass/amp and soon found I could find the notes he was playing and we had us a duo going.
Next, I made some swaps for a set of drums and an old electric guitar/amp, brought in another old buddy to play the drums and we had a Trio going. I scrounged up an old mic and rigged it up into my big-ol home stereo and voila, we had our first PA.
This all happened within a month of getting that first acoustic guitar and I've been continuously playing in one band or another every since for 18 years now.
Whats your story?
