Is your drum on correct? The solid bar attaches to the drum at the 5 oclock position. Then the cable attatches to the other drum attachment at the 11 oclock position. Make sense?

Did you take a pic? You have something backerds. Large spacer on right side. That bracket attatches to the axle snd the frame. Take a pic of what it looks like. It will make thid easier.

the black bar connects to the edge of the frame and then to the brake, and that holds it still, then the cable connects to the pin and is screwed in, terrible pictures, sorry they were taken from my ipod camera, they arent on the bike as its apart right now, but the black bar wont connect to the brake drum

For some reason, I think the black bar goes on the axle, then to the frame, but I will let ya know. Try google search for some.photos.

thanks, it seems like it either is bent up wrong and wont touch the drum, and if i do get it to touch, its all the way away, and if i get it to connect in the normal place theres quite a bit of extra lever hanging out,

Err...

This?

I just thought it was to keep the brake assembly in place, and as sort of a rock guard...

yessir! thats it thnx Bm

from what i read on ken's posts, the bar may have been bent while he took it apart, OR the spacers are on the wrong side, i'm not 100% certain yet, till we see a pic of the problem. Sounds like something simple, but i can see him being worried about assembling it right.

well i put it on a stand sort of thing, and it all came to me. put it back together what looked the right way and HEY, there it goes. i only have a few problems now, A the brakes are squeaking worse then they were before but only what i engage it about 1/8 if i pull it hard no noise and the back tire locks, B my carb was never tuned to 3600 rpm, because it surges when its held full throttle, the screw is a little bit farther out than it should be but still C the chain can never be right, its either so tight it dosent let the wheel gain full speed, or loose enough to hit the chain gaurd, im keeping it loose, i dont know what to do yet,

Just breathe! first off, everything was put together by a man, and it will go back together by another. When you did the shoes, did you sand them, and hit them with some brake clean? use a rough grit to scratch up the surface. Why this happens is like lathing metal, it is chattering in the drum. annoying but not lethal.

http://forums.focaljet.com/team-tech/644087-rear-drum-brake-squeal-cure.html check this out, may help your cause. another thing that can cause squeal or chatter is a warped drum, big pain in the butt! Carby time! What kind of engine is on this thing? I will go dig up some info and carb settings for ya. the chain issue, you may have a worn chain hard to tell as of yet. keep that black bar unbolted, and just the chain on the sprocket, with loose lugs. use the little tensioners to pull the wheel back straight, let the assembly freefloat with just the tensioner screws holding it, and check the chain,

:useless:

lol not useless, but they will make it easier for us to help.

heheheh. id say give that brake shoe thing a try, little bit of filing and put a little more of a chamfer on the shoe's edge. maybe that will quiet it down. another thing u can try, is white lithium grease, on the surfaces where the shoes sit, the actuator arm and the round peg. it can help but dont overdo it, if that stuff gets on the shoes and gets burned on you'll havta open it up and clean it off
