Got a helicoil kit, so here goes.
Had to make a tap drive to clear the other studs. 12pt 9mm socket fit the square of the tap close enough.

Used a plate glass to eyeball my depth.

20250301_170343.jpgstarted the insert and kept driving it down till it was at the depth I needed.

Used the glass again as I set the stud.
Hope it holds.

Now I'm waiting for rings to be delivered.

Went looking around and found a chunk of Delrin. Perfect. A few spinny spins on the lathe and a few skateboard bearings later I had this.

I present version 4.0

Had to reconfigure the arm, no biggie.

All installed again.

The roller v4.0 has been working well. I see no trace of wear yet.

Then I left the home track.
20250319_164501.jpg

There's an abandoned roundy round track that has been kinda converted to a MX track in the near city. I've been wanting to go see what was out there and if there was any sorta flat track left.

Unfortunately there was no fun to be had for this hard tail. It was just too rough. Kinda like a boat in rough water. I just couldn't get it on plane.

It was so rough it broke a crappy weld.
No penetration on the pipe and I forgot the bottom. Oops. Good thing I painted it.

I also didnt stay long cause it started running like crap. Hard idle, didn't want to rev. Cough and sputtered back to the trailer and came home with my tail tucked. Slightly disappointed.

I'll leave you with this.
You smart fellers should catch on.

There is an intake leak too. Just didn't show well in the video.

The first one just broke off. The second one was a metal roller but it was held with a c-clip that went awol and lost the roller. Third was the one that stayed around but got chewed up.
You know practice makes perfect or something like that.

You need a way to get some air on that engine while it’s running around in circles.

Be interesting to see an oil cooler hooked up and placed within the airstream (unless there is one already, didn't see or read) that could certainly help. Was also thinking it would be neat to see a forced-air-cooled motorcycle engine with a shroud and blower just like our industrial engines. 🤔

Were you turning when it broke?

I recognize those heim joints as fun kart, OEM Manco style (of course). Is it really just two pieces of metal (crimp threads?) pressed together and that’s all or is their there an inner core? I suppose it’s ripe for a high-speed, high-stress failure, but honestly you don’t really expect them to be a weak link (no pun intended), you expect a tire to blow first or something.

I’d like to see it taken apart and to see how they manufactured it.

Well this was a fun break at 45mph.
I wondered how well the crimp threads would last. Guess it's time for one piece rod ends.
