My machinist told me too. It's alot better than clamping down on the outside of it. I let it cool between hits so it didn't distort anything.

Joe, is the drive belt still too short? I've had that happen to me with a snowmobile before.

What kind of revs did you end up getting out of it?
Where is your timing now?
Do you think it's the torque converter holding it back? I don't think it's flow because even a crappy l head engine with poor flow will rev higher than that with no porting. The OHV flows much better. Then there's compression ratio, fuel, timing.
Also, I can't verify this with my own experience but I was told that you gotta gear for more torque so the engine can break through the torque converters resistance at higher rpms...
It just seems weird to me that the torque converter is almost never used in drag races. It's always the disc style clutches that are used.
