Thanks Lanuse. I went to take the paint off of that old Carter and realized, they plastic dipped the frame. I typically use a wire wheel on my side grinder but had to use paint stripper. Never seen paint so thick. It was one of those moments where I wished I had just roughed up the paint and sprayed over it. If they had cleaned the frame better and did their prep work before they dipped it, it would have never started rusting.

After thinking about it for a few hours, I doubt the Non Hemi parts will fit the Hemi. Just like the 212 Hemi and Non Hemi. :mad:

Well, it was a motor straight off the shelf. That would explain why the valve springs I ordered for it were to small. I've always been a Briggs guy, this overhead valve thing is new to me. So I have a hemi? I feel like Joe Dirt!!

After researching it, I do in fact have the hemi. Now I'm on the fence about taking the governor out. I think I will run it first to see what kind of performance I can get first! I'm an old guy, I want low end power with this build, I don't need the speed. I wonder how many RPM's the hemi will turn compared to the non?

Hemi engines tend to breathe better and make more power at higher RPM. Wedge engines make better torque however through the entire RPM range especially at lower RPM. Any way we could get you to pull the head to have a look see at the combustion chamber? :popcorn:

I stopped by our local Harbor Freight today and every 420cc was a hemi. I also learned something new today. If you have a older Carter Brothers go kart, good luck replacing the rims without changing the hubs. Odd size they are.

Anyone know if the GX390 flywheel will swap with this?

Just guessing, but I probably think it would.
At NR racing, the 390 flywheels are listed as gx390 and 13HP clones.

I'd call Russel at NR, Timmy at DynoCams or Jody at ARC and ask. Russel is harder to get on the phone.

Well I pulled the flywheel and there is only one charge coil. I ordered another one that fits a Honda GX390. We will see if it works. The rubber end grommet where the charge coil wire comes out from behind the cover has double holes, I guess it's in case you add another. This is the information I've not been able to find on the internet. I'm on the cutting edge of information release for the Predator 420cc lol!!

Looks like you got a low oil sensor on that engine too. Dont forget to rewire that.:cheers2:

I usually remove them. I'm a maintenance oriented guy. I check oil daily and change frequently.

Just what in the wide world of sports does leaving a non functioning low oil sensor have to do with maintenance? ???!

Am I missing something here?????

BTW: Not that it has anything to do with the price of bread...but I'm kinda like crack it open after it quits: "Oh...I see...it was outta oil!"

On a go kart the "oil sensor" is useless and annoying, nothing to do with oil level, Everytime you turn the Kart the sensor kills the engine, due to oil slosh.
Yep. You can remove it entirely. If you are opening up the Sidecover anyway.
But seriously, keep the switch part wired to the ignition, instead of the oil sensor wire that wire to an emergency kill switch.
But you do have electric start so I guess.. yeah remove the whole thing.
