My impression is the progress kind of slows down when you near the finish.

It's not that it slows down, it's more that you need to concentrate on the smaller details towards the end...

With my build, it appeared that 80% of the work was completed in the first few weeks because the progress was very visual, lots of large pieces; towards the end, the pieces get smaller so, it's not as visually noticable that something has changed...

You're doing well, keep it up :thumbsup: don't slow down because it looks like great progress; it doesn't matter if you finish early, it does matter if you finish late ;)

Thanks crazycart for your help. The hubs have to be custom made in a lathe (romanian: strung; for the romanian readers :) )

The market is full of cheap ATV hubs that match the wheel, but do not match the axle because ATV hubs are smaller and with splines.
I can also find hubs like crazykart suggested, which fit the axle but have a bolt pattern so small they're useless.

Will sort it out somehow.

On the other build threads I was reading about Ackerman steering angle. This interests me because the spindles I sourced appear to have "reverse Ackerman" if I may call it like that. I wonder how the steering will turn out...

On day 12 of the build I continued with the front part.

1. The A-arms are not flat, all four have a small angle. This is just in case the ball joints don't allow much suspension travel.

2. At this point, some might notice I have "borrowed" ideas from other threads in this forum :lolgoku: this forum definitely helped a lot

3. All the tolerances in my kart are acceptable, no more than 5 mm off. However, in the front side there is not a single 90 degree angle :) I imagine the final assembly will be like trying to balance the offsets from left to right, rather than precise measurements

Hi guys, just a small update from my build: it is on hold during the hot summer days we have in Europe. It is planned to be finished in time for the competition though.

If your spindle's have "reverse" ackerman you're just looking at them backwards.

I was talking non-sense. Here they are,the spindles, and there is a 90 degree angle between the shaft and the steering rod attachment, so this means no Ackerman.

Also they are marked "left" and "right".

In America they call it a rolling chassis. :auto: And it's awesome. Turned out quite symmetrical. Suspension is ok, seat is very comfortable and adjustable. I have the rear hubs, aluminum and custom made :D

Still to do are: Seat belt, orange spinning light, steering, front reinforcement, roll bar, chain, break system, pedals, electrics and paint. I'd say this stage is 75% done.

Considering you have less than two months to finish, I can see a few things that you can leave off the list such as:

Seat belt
roll bar
orange spinning light
paint

Without the roll bar, a seat belt is not necessary, & paint & the light are cosmetics which are not necessary to qualify; I'm not saying don't do them, just concentrate on the important things like brakes, steering & pedals first & leave the cosmetice until last...

you do make a valid point. I have to prioritize because halloween is not that far away.

lights and seatbelt are gifts from my friends :)

Very inspiring build! Keep up the great work. I've been wanting to build the Arachnid for years now. Seems I always find some reason not to..... but it is still on the "to-do" list. I've enjoyed the thread. Thanks. Ryan

Installed front reinforcement, the brake caliper, the chain and most of the steering. And painted half the kart.
