About your axle sliding. Get two of the collars that have the set screws. With the collars tight against both sides of one of the bearings mark where the set screw will go into the axle and then drill a small shallow hole there in the axle. You may or may not need longer set screws, but this will pin the axle in place. Doing it to both sides of one bearing will still allow the chassis to have a tiny bit of flex as the opposite bearing will float.

Clear as mud? :)

I can't improve on this advice ^....right on!

I thought of that idea already. I have some left over from my shifter kart. It still slides. I am thinking maybe finding some tube that slides over the axle and just doing that also. But the weld thing would only be 2 tack welds on the outer sides. The welds are last case scenario cause i got another car show this saturday that i promised id be there with.

Gotcha ! I also noticed mine are the aluminum versions. I'm gonna get the steelies and use those instead. And drill a pilot hole for them to set in.

You kind of failed to mention that you have and tried aluminum collar's. Installed properly, you'll damage the bearing hangers before the steel versions fail.

If you're talking about the one piece style with setscrews, my personal experience is that the two piece clamp type hold better when installed properly. One piece setscrew types are compromised by the fact that the setscrew pulls one half of the collar off of the shaft. Dimples are a bandaid to try and compensate for that. Adding more setscrews just make's matter's worse.

The two piece type has two cap screw's that do nothing but clamp the collar in place. Installed properly, a 1" id collar on a clean shaft will deal with hits that will wipe out the bearings first, because the two halves are working together. The clamping force of the second half more than exceeds what traction you get from a dimpled setscrew, also without adding a a potential weak point to the shaft.

This is my personal experience from almost 30 year's in heavy industry. If you disagree, the US constitution guarentees you that right. Just be aware that the mods will ruin your day if your response doesn't meet forum standards.....

Yeah i miss typed that. The ones off my kart are 1.25" axle anyways and my trike is 1"

I tore the whole thing down tonight...................

The rear axle area anyways ! All of the set screws were loose. So i added new ones and added loc-tite. Hopefully they will stay put this time. And i welded a few brackets on so i have chain tensioners now. Didn't get pics yet but i will.

And i will order the good 2 piece ones this weekend. But this will work so i can get it to the show saturday morning.

Yeah it's finished for me. I'd rather the new owner paint it their way. I'm still trying to get a camera to do the video. I'm not giving it away but it won't be painted by the deadline either. So either way it doesn't matter. I can't afford to redo the frame so its rideable. You have to constantly force the steering wherever you go and its wearing me smooth out. I've had chemo and radiation so I wear out easier than most. I'm only 170lbs soaking wet and on a full day with clothes.

It doesn't need to be painted to qualify, cosmetics are a bonus...

If you wish to qualify, we need to see a vid of it going, stopping & the engine dying with the rider in the seat; by no means am I saying this is what you have to do but, without it, you're not in the running, it's totally up to you...

If you get $3K for that, I'm building one tomorrow...

Start building. I just got offered a Mustang GT Convertible that is running and driving. Has new top. Those around here are $3500-4000 all day. I'm going to look at it now. Guy said its a done deal if I want it.

Had a $2700 cash offer today but I think I can get more money with the car.

And to add a little advise if you do build one. I'm NOT even breaking even cash wise. I'm losing money.

Edit: Car was not what i wanted so i called the guy and took the cash. So im out of the competition for good. Hes coming to get it next week sometime.

If you lost money, you either don't know how to source cheap parts or overpay for stuff. I've bought and built several choppers/motorcycles all for under a grand and doubled my money or more on all of them.

This rare engine is the issue. Especially when there are only a few companies that build stuff for this engine. Between the ignition and fuel stuff I have over a $1000 in just those items alone. So if you add buying the engine and supporting parts just to make it run your already at $2k already.

Yikes, yeah, I'd just go with a common and cheaply sourced engine like a KZ400/440, XS650, or GS500. Should be able to get a wrecked or project bike one of those for around $350-500 complete.

Dang it Joe.....Not even a vid of it running?

Guy didn't show so I put it on eBay to see what happens. Just as I figured I got guys calling from Chicago and California already. I'm still working on getting a camera to mount for a ride video. I might just have to have my dad hold my phone and record while I do a bunch of u turns in the street and the qualifying video. And some burnouts. Lol

That would be great; it would be disappointing to watch this beast come together for nought, give it your best shot...
