Delco Si-12 Alternator/ Motor Conversion For Ebike Scooter or Gokart DIY Data Base

Hey BobDiode, I want to see this thread, but don't confuse the subject with a video about an alternator for a wind generator. We want a cheap and a simple motor for our scooter, bike or gokart. First how do we identify a Si 12 delco, what does the Si 12 mean? Can we start with a standard...

Not any problem at all frederic. I probably wasn't as clear in my reference as I should have been :-) Later, Mike

    the cooling idea

I didn't say there was any bickering here, I said the the thread I mentioned had a lot of bickering in it. It now has 25 pages, out of the last 10, I think 5 are bickering. This is the thread I mentioned. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=905411 Mike

    the cooling idea

Not sure what it all means, but you should still get 80 to 90% efficiency from the motor. The thread I mentioned has grown a lot since I mentioned it, but I'm not really getting information that I could put to use. There seems to be a lot of bickering and many are looking for someone that can...

    the cooling idea

The field current is not difficult, just 1 to 4 amps dc. But the permanent magnet rotors even take care of that, and also from what is said, give the altermotor more power. Mike

    the cooling idea

Yea, but I've thought more about converting an alternator to a motor. Some will work at 80 amps + and you can drive them with over 100 volts. That 10 hp, if it works! I recently found this thread on an RC hobby group of some people doing it, and using already built hobby motor controllers...

    Dimmer switches

Hi frederic, I'm curious about your 12v 4.5hp motor, can you tell me more about it? I have an electric gokart also, with a 28v 2hp motor. I run the motor on 48 volts, and yes when I floor the pedal it draws over 250 amps. The motor ratings are 28 volts at 51 amps, 2600 rpm, 2 hp. But it seems...

What do you mean, what? You can remember "let me google that for you" Take the first let of each word L M G T F Y. Add ".com" Then remember to put "?q=" after the letters. "lmgtfy.com?q=" now add your desired search word. http://www.lmgtfy.com?q=elephant Have fun, Mike

Which of these motors is best?

I have a had a second thought about this whole idea!!! The MC-60 board says ""SCR"" Motor Controller. An SCR must have 0 volts on the anode to turn off, (no current flow) See; http://www.kilowattclassroom.com/Archive/SCRArticle.pdf So the circuit probably uses pulsating dc to drive the motor...

freakboy, I don't remember where I got it, but I liked it so much I made an effort to figure it out and commit it to memory. Did I get it from you through the gokart forum? If so thanks!! Mike

Which of these motors is best?

I looked over the wiring diagram, I would first figure out where the 12v is made. Is it developed on the MC-60 SCR motor controller board, or does it come from the the PB-2.4i power board? You can probably just disconnect that connector and measure the voltage from L to H on the MC-60, if you...

So are you going to use the 24v 41amp 1hp motor? If yes, what is the rpm? Need motor rpm and max speed desired. Max speed is limited by motor hp and weight of cart. I'd go for 20 mph and then if you think it has plenty of torque you can change the sprocket ratio to increase the speed. That's...

!Q Hey James, I'm not against electric, in fact I'm for it! I have an electric gokart, And have a great time with it. I'm in the middle of some changes to my motor mount at the moment, and then I'll be getting new batteries. Here's a link to my video...

That's what I have found, building electric costs more than gas. I guess your looking at the wheel chair motor assy's, not a bad way to go, but you should try to get the speed controller. I picked up a junked electric wheel chair out of someones trash, still trying to figure out what to do...
