Tecumseh 8hp engine - okay for racing kart?

Fellow wants $50 for a used 8hp tecumseh from an old snowblower he's parting out. If it runs, would it be worth it? More important, would it okay for mounting up to an old racing kart (will never see the track again).

    Possible GX140 Problem

Sweet! Called the local Honda Powersports and they'll have the parts in tomorrow... $36.68 taxes in! I was surprised to see the price was competitive with the USA price, normally we get ripped off up here.

    Possible GX140 Problem

Hey Jake, Checked out that site. Looks pretty thorough. I didn't find the dotted VIN they're referring to (on the engine) but there is, on the side, stamped this: QA** GX140-2502702 So, according to the ereplacement site, I'm presuming that the QA in the stamp is the type (entering GX140...

    Possible GX140 Problem

Well, ****. Got the engine put back together after giving it a nice bath and having sanded off the sides of the flywheel (pretty rusty). Decided to pull the valve cover to have a look in case I got any cleaning fluid in there and ... yeah. PO decided for whatever reason, to pull the rockers...

    Possible GX140 Problem

Had the engine in the parts washer this evening and noticed three little holes in the casting just below the exhaust port. They're about the size of the 'O' on your keyboard. What do you think would cause this and should I be concerned? Is my motor toast?

Next brake problem, Enginetics Master Cyl on't Pump

Lines are disconnected from master cyl. Plug is in. I can pump all day and, at best, a few drops will piddle out.

Next brake problem, Enginetics Master Cyl on't Pump

It moves very freely, but will not pump fluid. Filled it last night with the wrong fluid (didn't know any better at the time) but it appears to have drained out. Filled it tonight with the correct dot 5 but it just won't pump fluid. What do you suppose could be causing this?

How do I remove pistons from Enginetix calipers?

Ha! Someone on another forum suggested using a grease gun to pop the pistons free (more pressure, less danger than using comp air). Went to the auto parts store after work and they had a grease fitting that fit the caliper! Also picked up a new brass plug for the master cyl (the plastic one was...

How do I remove pistons from Enginetix calipers?

Just tried that, they didn't budge. They (well, at least one) moved a bit last week when I hit the brake pedal so I assume they're not totally beyond hope.

How do I remove pistons from Enginetix calipers?

How do I remove pistons from Enginetics calipers? Have removed the calipers and now want to remove the pistons so I can clean everything up. They're stuck quite firmly in place. Don't want to pry where I shouldn't so I'm looking for a "correct" method of removing them.

The kids won't be hitting any hills other than the hump in the gravel laneway so I guess it'll be okay.

How well do engines (ie: the Honda gx140) like being mounted on an incline as with the Burris mount? How well would I it oil? How would you determine the oil level?

Want to increase ground clearance of racing kart

Any chance of getting a better deal from these guys? The website has one price ($28) and ebay has another ($17 starting). So, obviously I'd like to get it for $17 or darn close to it (shipping is the same either way) but the girl I wound up emailing steadfastly refuses to budge. I've given up...

Post your Kart Jackshaft Setup Pics

Hey folks, Looking to get ideas on how I could integrate a jackshaft onto an old racing kart. I'm interested in increasing the ground clearance (wheels and sprocket) and it's been suggested I employ one of these... problem is, I'm not sure how I can integrate it onto the kart. Being a track...

    Gx140 questions

The flywheel is beyond simple surface rust, it's almost fuzzy with rust at this point. It needs to be cleaned up a bit. The magnet looks pretty good actually, just want to clean up the rest. Figure I'd take some of it apart and clean it in the (parts) washer. Just didn't want to put the...
