Had the engine in the parts washer this evening and noticed three little holes in the casting just below the exhaust port. They're about the size of the 'O' on your keyboard. What do you think would cause this and should I be concerned? Is my motor toast?

Well, ****. Got the engine put back together after giving it a nice bath and having sanded off the sides of the flywheel (pretty rusty). Decided to pull the valve cover to have a look in case I got any cleaning fluid in there and ... yeah. PO decided for whatever reason, to pull the rockers. The rods and rockers were there, just stuffed inside, but the studs, pivots and nuts are nowhere to be found. Any idea how much I'm looking at to replace these (assuming the local Honda Powersports is able to get them)? Anywhere else would have these parts?

I use a website called Ereplacement parts they are usually cheaper than the dealer and all you need is your part number and you can type that into the search bar. It should bring them up. to get the part number just go to the honda website and you can type in yoour model number.

Hey Jake,

Checked out that site. Looks pretty thorough. I didn't find the dotted VIN they're referring to (on the engine) but there is, on the side, stamped this:

QA**
GX140-2502702

So, according to the ereplacement site, I'm presuming that the QA in the stamp is the type (entering GX140 pulls up over 8 different types of that engine) and the number is the S/N. Sound about right?

The part #'s for the parts I'm after appear the same from type to type so it probably doesn't matter much. Looks like I'm into it for $35 shipped to my Dad ($77 shipped directly to me - ouch!), but it'll probably be a few weeks before I get them.

Sounds ok to me, i would look around some other sites also to see if there are more options. I have came across a few sites where the parts are cheaper but shipping is wayy expensive! i cant remember their names, but ereplacementparts usually is pretty good.

Sweet! Called the local Honda Powersports and they'll have the parts in tomorrow... $36.68 taxes in! I was surprised to see the price was competitive with the USA price, normally we get ripped off up here.

Please check out NR racing and click on the stock gx160 parts on the right.
The studs should fit, and I think they are under $10.
I can't seem to load the site to get a link because of bad internet at the moment.
Edit: about $12.50.
Go to valve train.

It runs!

Took it to the kart shop today as the owner suggested he might have what I'd need to get both the engine and brakes working. He had some used honda parts and got them installed and set the valves up correctly. Did a few other things that needed to be done, found some new orings for the brakes, a new throttle cable and I was out the door for $70.

Got home, mounted it, fiddled with a few other things and stuck the fuel line into a gas can. Took a few minutes of cranking but she eventually fired up. Smoked a bit at first (oil might have sloshed around as I was cleaning it) but she seems to run well. Piddling fuel around the carb somewhere and the kill switch does squat but at least the lump works.

Oh yeah, the PO must have left has in the tank because there was a puddle of tar on the bottom. Cleaned the pickup tube and valve (it was scuzzy too) and have the tank soaking with some gas in it, hoping that will dissolve the gunge.

Never heard from Honda Powersports about the parts that were supposed to be in today.
