no spark in 90 cc polaris motor

I am working on a 90 cc polaris motor. Gonna take it off the 4 wheeler and make a kart out of it but I can't get any spark. I don't know too much about these motors. It has a broken key switch but it has previously been bypassed. Already checked the kill switch rip cord. Seems to be in...

No Keyway in my 3 1\2 hp briggs

I've got a briggs motor with no keyway on the shaft. I am planning on using my dremel to cut out a 3\16 keyway to secure the clutch. Has anybody ever attempted this or is there a better way without taking it to a machine shop?

Where did you learn to weld?

I taught myself to weld about 7 months ago. I have a miller arc welder my dad gave me with high and low settings and a dial for each. I had no interest in metal work until I got my welder. I was always doing something with carpentry. Since the welder I now have a torch set, chop saw, angle...

    new to jackshafts

Wow, I didn't see page 2 on here when I posted my last post. Will try moving my caliper out to the edge of the rotor. Will let you know how it turns out. Although, I think I will get the new caliper on its way. The brake pads on this are only about 1\2 as big as the ones on my other kart...

    new to jackshafts

I found one on Ebay. 24 tooth 5\8" bore. This should torque me up. Also found a bigger brake caliper. It's heavy duty and comes with mounting bracket that allows it to slide a bit to keep it from binding on the rotor. 14.99 for sprocket and 41.99 for the caliper. Hopefully it don't take me...

    new to jackshafts

Also, I currently have a 17 tooth jackshaft sprocket on to help with gear reduction. I think I want to go to like a 23 to 25 tooth for good torque, but can't seem to find any bigger than 20. It's a 5\8 inch shaft. Anybody got any good links? It's 41 P chain.

So I switched my jackshaft setup around like Fabroman said and it works great..! No more flexing on the jackshaft and no more horrible grinding sound. Thanks again Fabroman!!!! Oh, the brake setup I got sucks donkey! Any idea on some cheap brakes that actually work? Maybe I just need a...

pics of the kart This is my first kart build. I used 1 1\4 sch 40 pipe. Bit of an overkill and heavier but I wanted some meat to weld to. (beginning welder) And using an arc welder at that. 100% built by me and not understanding the grinding sound I'm hearing. Hopefully the next one gets...

    chain help!

depends on what type of clutch and sprocket you use. If you buy a 35 clutch and sprocket you will buy a 35 chain. If you buy a 41 clutch and sprocket you will use 41 chain

    new to jackshafts

I recently built a cart and wanted to put a jackshaft on for ease of changing gear ratio. I have a previous thread on here about it but I will just start over. I built a jackshaft bracket, hooked up the jackshaft which is 5\8" I have both sprockets on the same end of the jackshaft but they...

    dazed and confused

I just got done with a home made go kart. I went to take it out and it's really slow taking off. Does pretty good after I finally get going. But by the end of the 2 minute ride the clutch was smoking hot. The kart is about 250 lbs. I am 170 lbs. This is my sprocket ratios. I have a 11...

    Need help

OK, I am back to building the single wheel drive kart for the kids. The frame is done. Spindles are mounted, seats built, foot pedals are spring loaded, 3 1\2 horse briggs about to go on it. Couple of questions. I only want them to do around 10 to 15 mph. What ratio do I need. They...

    suggestions? unconventional drive system

Ok, so he took my suggestion and he went with a 12 inch pulley on the axle. He is now at a 4 to 1 ratio but he didn't want to spend anymore on pulleys so he just went with a single drive belt. It's still slipping. Keep in mind he has a 16 horse motor pushing it and he wants some speed...

    suggestions? unconventional drive system

Well, I was right. He had it on jackstands and it was awesome. He put it on the ground and he burned the belts up. He had 4 inch engine pulley and 7 inch axle pulley. Feels great to school the old man!!!!!! I told him to replace the axle pulley with a 12 inch and he would be close to a...

    suggestions? unconventional drive system

My dad is building a go kart for our upcoming race on April 21st. He is going a bit unconventional as far as the drive system goes and I am not sure if it will work. He is using a 2 pulley belt system from the engine to the axle. Instead of spending money on a clutch he is using a belt...
