    Red...I mean Purple Talon build

Thank you...I was very happy with how the colors worked with eachother. I even like the white for the wheels. Helps give it that clasic look.

    Red...I mean Purple Talon build

Mine is a Carter Brothers Red Talon. It's a pretty small kart but perfect for my daughter. This is a great site with lots of helpful information and some great people that are willing to help you along the way.

    Finally some progress

Take some shoe polish (the liquid type) and draw a line across both front tires. Take it back out for a spin and notice the ware marks and this should tell you what the tires are doing during hard turns. Once you know this info, you can better set up camber.

Bought first go kart... Need assistance!

If you were able to get the hf clone at a good price then you made the right choice. You can even sell the good parts of the Briggs to help make up the difference. It's still a very popular little engine. I've seen three in town while I was research mine and this is not a very popular area for...

    adding a jack shaft

She will need to find a job first to help pay for tires as I don't see them lasting long as is. LOL Just thinkful that I decided to keep them all the same size on this kart, easy to rotate. :wai:

Bought first go kart... Need assistance!

From the looks of it, you have the same Briggs and Stratton engine that came with the one I built for my daughter. It's a snappy little engine so you need to get a jackshaft for it. Other then that, looks like a great lettle kart from what I can see in the pictures.

    Briggs 5hp Problem

Give the carb a good cleaning with carb cleaner. If it’s the carb on tank style, check all your gaskets and also you have a small pipe that goes from the carb to the head of the engine, make sure the rubber isn’t cracked. Replace the gaskets if you find any tears. Once you verify that you are...

Bought first go kart... Need assistance!

You will need to modify how the throttle hooks up but as long as you keep the governor in place, it won't be that hard. Search HF clone throttle or throttle hook up on clone and you will find some great direction.

Bought first go kart... Need assistance!

You will want to add a jackshaft or convert it to a torque convertor...trust me. The jackshaft will allow you to gear it down so it won't be so fast. I just finished building a kart for my 8 year old and clocked it with me on it going 25mph. It had a 5hp Briggs and Stratton. That's way to...

    adding a jack shaft

Once again...thank you so much toystory. Ordered all the parts today and look forward to setting it up this weekend. Decided to order both the 17 and 14 tooth sprockets. Figured I might as well have the 14 on hand for when she gets older and needs a "little" more speed. I'm excited to see how...

    adding a jack shaft

Thanks toystory, I knew I could find the best option here. So my shopping list should include the jackshaft listed in the first post, a 10 tooth sprocket and a 17 tooth sprocket correct? Anything that I’m missing that I’ll need to pick up other then more chain? Think this should gear it down...

    adding a jack shaft

Sorry to bring this thread back up but after further research, I have more questions. Better yet, asking for opinions. Gave my daughter the kart this weekend and she absolutely loves it. Pulled the throttle down until I could gather the parts to build a jackshaft. Boy it doesnt take it long for...

    question on harbor freight clone

Just picked up two for free but they are both 3" belts and much to large for the kart. I've got a guy that has a set of 2" harnesses that I'm waiting to hear back from. Worse case, I'll go with what I have and replace them next week.

    Explain Your DIYGK Screen Name!

Mine is from the type car I drive. I have a 2004 Mach 1 with nitrous and it has a shaker hood on it. So one night I got on it pretty good and the torque causes the shaker to ...well shake so "shake this" was born.

I'm going out today to a local kart track, the owner said he might have so belts that will work for what I need. If not, my brother owens a wrecking...
