FINALLY starting on my FIRST go kart

Gotcha! I was told to make them clickable thumbnails, but I was figuring that meant through my PB account. It seems attaching them through this site would take up even more space, but I will be happy to do it that way.

FINALLY starting on my FIRST go kart

It's actually a two-seater. I guess I was just trying to give you a hand with the basic design of the frame. Your chalk design is just two boxes. The red one pictured is a production unit that you could pull some design and support cues from.

FINALLY starting on my FIRST go kart

I'll make it easy on you if you're interested....this design seems to be pretty universal. I don't have the exact measurements handy, but you can probably wing it from there....or I can get you some measurements later.

    Thoughts on these carts...

He said it is definitely a 110cc. We're going to drop it in the shop during lunch and I will do a better inspection. He is almost certain it is a Roketa brand kart. We couldn't find the exact same kart, but this one looks close....perhaps just an upgraded version...

    Thoughts on these carts...

Well we definitely have some work to do, but I knew that. The wiring needs to be completely redone. I am considering just getting a new harness for it, but I might just run new wires making my own. I am honestly not sure which model or manufacturer it is, so I am not sure which harness...

    Thoughts on these carts...

So with ^^ that information in mind (7.5hp), it probably would not be necessary to look into swapping it out for a Predator 6.5hp.... I will be getting a closer look at it today. He brought the blue one with him to work, so we'll drop it in the shop and have a look.

    Thoughts on these carts...

Understood. Wouldn't have much use for this site if I went to Google for everything. Nice thing about a forum is the community of people happy to share knowledge with each other. I would rather get educated from people on an isolated forum like this one that have experience, than mindlessly...

    Thoughts on these carts...

Where can I learn more about this GY6 engine? Is it going to have enough power to move my son and I around? Any way to 'hop' it up some? Would there be any issue with swapping the push button start for a keyed ignition? I like the idea of keeping the control of the cart being started....vs...

    Thoughts on these carts...

He is bringing them to me on Monday. While I am not really going to be able to do anything about the color of the seats (rather, don't really want to spend the money), I think I am going to strip it down completely, have the chassis reinforced where needed, and then have it blasted and painted.

    Thoughts on these carts...

I pulled up a picture of the GK-17. It looks very similar, but some differences with the cage, and a couple other odds and ends. Perhaps just an older version/model of it. I am definitely buying that one. Pretty sure I'll grab the red one too.

    Thoughts on these carts...

I have been working on plans to build a kart for my son. One of my guys at work has two running karts and one kart frame he is selling. He is asking $150 for each of them, with the bare frame of the third being free. I am pretty sold on the blue one, and am sure I'll grab the red one too...

    Seat slider designs?

^^^ hmmm, now that is interesting! Never thought about a dual pedal system....at least not like that.

    Seat slider designs?

I suppose I should reverse my thinking to be that the driver's seat sits forward enough to fit my son, but it slides back to fit me. With essentially 30" of height difference, he is not going to fit what fits me, but I can stuff myself to fit what works for him.

    Seat slider designs?

I am interested to see what people use for seat sliders. I am building a 2-seater. I am 6'5", and my five year old son is.....not. Due to my height and interest in riding in the cart with my son, I am considering two separate seats. The passenger seat will be fixed, at a distance that I can...

looking for rear swing-arm suspension designs

Ok. Figured it was pretty simple, just wanted to 'confirm' the basic design/setup. The shock mount will be adequately braced.

looking for rear swing-arm suspension designs

I am looking for some design ideas from you guys that have built rear suspensions for your karts. This is a high quality rendering of what I had in mind.... The long red line is the shock. The short red line is the hinge/joint that connects the lower swing arm to the chassis. Is this...

Frame material size & strength vs occupant weight

Well, basically, I have asked for quotes on 2x2, 1/8" wall, 1x1, 1/8" wall, and 1"x.083 wall tube. If we're just talking about the square stuff....with the 1x1 and 2x2 basically being the same wall thickness, is there any reason to go with the 2x2? Or would I be just as well to go with the 1x1...

Engine mounting - offset or center?

That makes sense about mounting to one side. The design I have in mind works best with the engine in the center, I just wanted to get a handle on the mind-set of placement options.

Frame material size & strength vs occupant weight

I am working on plans for a gokart for my son and I. He is about 50lbs and I am 280lbs. I am designing it for both of us to fit, but I have concerns about what will support our combined weight (and/or mine alone). I see a lot of karts built using 1x1 square tubing or 1" round pipe. There...
