I have been working on plans to build a kart for my son. One of my guys at work has two running karts and one kart frame he is selling. He is asking $150 for each of them, with the bare frame of the third being free.

I am pretty sold on the blue one, and am sure I'll grab the red one too.

The blue one has electric ignition, lights, suspension, etc. The electric system needs to be rewired, but runs fine. I do not know what engine it has.

The red one is a basic kart. It has a 5.5hp and carb issues, but otherwise in good shape. Rather than mess with that engine, i was thinking about just swapping in a brand new predator from HF. The drive tire looks like it could stand to be replaced.

I would probably strip both down, have them blasted and repainted here at work.

He said the bare frame is similar to the red one.

Can anyone tell me anything about the blue one (import)?

Is $300 fair for 2-1/2 carts like these?

It's a roketa gk-17, I believe. If it runs I would say it's a good deal, I wouldn't mind picking it up if you don't..... :)

I pulled up a picture of the GK-17. It looks very similar, but some differences with the cage, and a couple other odds and ends. Perhaps just an older version/model of it.
I am definitely buying that one. Pretty sure I'll grab the red one too.

Kart values vary regionally. Only folks around you could really say whether it's a good deal. Around here, I would kill small, defenseless mammals for a deal like that!

And really, at the end of the day- Is it worth it to you? That is truly what determines if it's a good deal.

If you need to get rid of the frame, let me know. I teach a small engine class to 8th graders and would love to have a project as such. The $$ would help you with the other two.
$300 for all sounds like a great deal to me!

IMO, it doesn't matter where you live, that's a killer deal :smiley_omg:

Forget the small, defenseless mammals, I'd harm large, endangered ones for that deal :drool5:

He is bringing them to me on Monday. While I am not really going to be able to do anything about the color of the seats (rather, don't really want to spend the money), I think I am going to strip it down completely, have the chassis reinforced where needed, and then have it blasted and painted.

Seriously? The neighborhood cats get pegged all the time if they wander into our yard.

I love it when the neighborhood cats wander by. My cat doesn't though; just stares out the window at them and hisses. We used to have one cat that just wandered around. We don't know what happened to him. :ack2:

It's an RSPCA (animal protection) thing. About 2 years ago a 19yo was jailed for beating the snot out of a 10 week old kitten. He didn't kill it but it had to be put down as a result of it's injuries.

I cant actually figure out how to respond to that. He shouldn't have had jail time. Should have had to do community service in a animal shelter.

Engine appears to be a GY6 or similar; do they usually use CVTs on them?
Good catch, I missed that! Yup, that's a GY6, but the starter looks different from the 150cc ones I've seen.

And yes, GY6's come with an integrated CVT, which is one of several reasons why I like them.
