The only thing I noticed was the power meter seemed ta be giving "hokey" readings

Why are (do I think) the reading from the Power Meter "hokey"?

Well, let's establish the specs (of the components we are working with)
...& then, maybe expand on the discussion

So first, I went back to the Sequoia build thread (my digital notebook)
...& found some specs, on this battery pack that I posted, when I first got it

...but, the EA program is "geared" towards kids/students
...so, we'll have ta save that, for another project (maybe the Morgan)

I switched out the 50A Shunt, with the 100A Shunt (that came with it)...just to see

Yup, for some reason (should have worked fine) the 50A Shunt wasn't co-operating with the meter (it came with 100A Shunt)
...so, I took 'er apart & did some investigatin'

Ta do this I had ta remove
1.) the battery pack,
2.) the seat
3.) the wire strain relief clamps
4.) the insulator sleeve too

First, I double checked that I had the wiring/connections correct

Yup, everything seems fine
White wire on the P- side of the Shunt (to controller)
...& Green & Black wires on the B- side (to Battery pack)

So/then, "to see" if the Shunt was the issue, I switched/changed 'er out (50A out & 100A in)
* Had ta switch/change some of the terminals too


Back in Business

Now, just reverse procedure
...ta "put 'er back together"

OK Let's get back to the "crazy" readings, the power meter was displaying, in the 1st video

The Voltage & Ah readings seemed normal
...but, the Wattage & Amperage readings seemed/were really high

I saw (& verified by watching the video) (another version of a digital notebook) Wattage readings "up" in the 3,500W's
...& Amperage readings "in" the 60A's

But,
Readings like this are basically impossible on this system as:
A.) the motor is only rated 1,000W
B.) the controller is only rated 28A
C.) the battery pack's BMS is only rated for 30A/40A
&
I could see/understand (1) component being over-burdened
...& "giving 'er all she's got capt'n"
...but, NOT all (3) components

So, a 1,000W motor "registering" as ~3,000W (is/would be x3)
...& a 28A controller "putting out" ~60A (is/would be x2)
...&/or a battery pack, with a 30A/40A BMS "putting out" ~60A (also x2)
Again...IMO...NOT likely

Then, in the little dinky bit of data we got from the 2nd video, I saw readings of
...~559W & ~10.07A
...&/then, ~834W & ~15.42A
...which are both mucho more like it

Is the brain box calibrated to the shunt?
I get it's reading the voltage drop, but does changing (for example) a 100a to a 50a shunt change the reading the box is looking for?

Hey WTR,

I have PZEM-051 meters on several karts, several EA racers & my ElMoto (electric motorcycle) too
...& haven't had any issues

But, the readings, with the 50A Shunt, were definitely "off"
...& (now) they seem proper/normal, with the 100A Shunt, that the meter came with

So, yes, it seems like they may be calibrated, to work together

Comparison example:
Polaris EA racer (has heavy pipe frame but, low rolling resistance wheels)
...& this video has some good "footage" of the meter

The speedometer, I'm usin', is just an old cell phone (without service)
...with a speedometer app installed

It displays the
...Current Speed (nice-n-big-n-clear)

It also, displays & records the
...Top Speed
...Average Speed
...Distance traveled
...& has a built-in timer (stopwatch)

* It can display the speed data in Analog &/or Digital
...& I think it also shows the route traveled (map)

I used some industrial Velcro ta mount it to the dashboard (after cleanin' the surface...of course)

Looks like this
...mounted good-n-secure
...but/also, easily removable for re-charging &/or for use on other racers

Instruments (total cost ~$20.00)

It rained on & off almost the entire weekend
...so, more testin' was put "on hold"

Sometimes the rain wasa commin' down in "buckets"
* See how much water is "shooting" out that downspout?

In between down pours, I worked on adding a brace to the rear deck (1" x 1" x 16g. square tube, from an old table/legs)

This brace will strengthen the rear deck area
...strengthen where the upper seatbelt shoulder straps mount
...& will "act" as a lifting handle, for/when lifting & moving the rear of the racer too (triple duty)
