I think, I can cut a couple of arm rests out of the back cover.

We'll see, once I dismantle it.

Sorry should have completely explained my post. It was meant to be funny. Picture mounting the TV on Yer kart. A camera in front of the TV. So your using a TV and a camera to navigate instead of just driving.

Kinda virtual reality type of a thing.

I worked on the hand controls a bit.

The thumb throttle we will be using, fits on a 7/8" handle bar so we'll use a piece of 1/2" schedule 40 pipe which is 5/8" Inside due to it's 1/8" wall.

I want the lever action to be really smooth.

I'll insert a 5/8" od. x 1/2" id. brass bushing into the piece of pipe so, a 1/2" bolt will pivot nicely.

Original idea was for pipe to be ~ 1 1/2" but, I already had 2 bushings in stock that were 5/8"od. x 1/2" id. x 1 1/8" so I rolled with that.

I welded the piece of pipe to a piece of 2" x 2" x 4" angle iron. (bushing holder/pivot)

I welded the 1/2" bolt to a piece of 3/4" x 3/4" x 6" angle iron (lever) that I ground down to fit into a piece of pipe for our handles.

Now, gotta see if the arm rest idea will work.

I love the idea of using those Bushings.

The First pair of Spindles I ever made I used 3/4 water pipe and some heavy duty Bronze bushings with a 1/2" id. they were off of car door hinges.
Bronze bushings are a great idea. I even used some on the gas and Brake pedals on my Kart. Where the Bolt goes through the frame.
I think any time on any Kart where we cant get a Bearing on a rotating part they are an asset.

It was sunny & like 57 degrees here today.

NOT typical for the end of November in NW Ohio.

Ima take advantage...

So, I worked in the floor pan I guess you would call it.

I had some expanded steel left over from another project that should work.

Used the handy dandy cutoff tool to cut it down a bit.

Then measured it out at...

well, the floor is 14" from side to side x 34" from front to back.

So, I marked it & cut notches before bending.

I left ~4" on each side which I bent up @ ~a 45 degree angle.

I left ~6" up front for the foot board & ~18" in the rear for the seat back both bent up @ ~a 45 degree.

Kinda make it look & sound easy but, It took some thought, a lot of riggin'/securing & a BFH (big hammer)

Test fit it to the frame, Yup, pretty close!

I'll see if I can get it welded up tomorrow.

I set the floor pan into our frame.

A lot of cuttin', grindin' & fittin'.

Then I removed it & cleaned up the frame.

Put it back, squared it up & tack welded it in about 30 spots.

Still got a lot of clean up but, she's comin' along.

Worked on cutting our arm rests out of the back of the old TV that I picked up last week.

I did some measurin' & some markin'.

Then, used a soldering iron (my favorite tool) & a straight edge to mark/score the plastic.

I worked on the side wrap around parts first, so I could get some flexibility to help bend/snap the long cuts.

I went over it & over it & over it, extra to "score it good" to reduce the possibility of the plastic cracking in the wrong place.

Still some fittin' & adjustin' to do but, gettin' close to what I had in mind!

Um, if I remember right, it was your idea to hit it with the truck, which I did (just for you) after I got the parts I needed.

Haven't done much on the Hero kart lately.

Work, winter, holidays etc.

Did do a little work on the seat, I harvested some material & foam rubber from the back seat of an old Oldsmobile.

Measured the seat area

cut up some plywood

trimmed up the foam, to match the seat bottom

left a little extra material

wrapped it around & stapled it down.

Now, I can trim up/fit the arm rests.

Super cold, winter finally showed up in NW Ohio.

...so doin' mostly indoor projects.

Finished up the seat, for the Hero kart, over the weekend.

Trimmed up the material for the back, sewed up the corners & tacked it down.

I re did the bottom too.

The first time, I didn't sew up the corners & it looked kinda sloppy.

Hero (Zero Turn Go Kart)

I would like to officially enter Hero, my Zero Turn Go Kart in the 2017 Build Off.

Time to get this project rolling again.

I have been gathering stuff but, I haven't worked on it since my last post 1/8/2017

I not sure how this works but, can that build info be merged with this new thread?
